How much do you tip for a cut and blow dry? Standard cut/ trim, nothing fancy done, not going from very long to very short, no fringe or particular style etc. Hair isn’t thick, curly or difficult to manage

£10 tip on a £90 cut/blowdry so it’s just over 10%.
if I have colour done too then £10 to the colourist as well.
They do a great job and they always manage to fit me in even though the salon is very busy!

I bet they do! That's a good income.

Motheranddaughter · 10/02/2024 18:03

I appreciate all my hairdresser does and I always get an appointment when I want one and go in for a free blow dry if I have a night out /big meeting

Pacifybull · 10/02/2024 18:04

Nothing. Why would you tip?

EC22 · 10/02/2024 18:05

I give a fiver no matter what I get.

Sunshineandrainbow · 10/02/2024 18:08

10 at Xmas, I go 4 times a year for a cut.
Really makes me Nxious and almost embarrassed I don't do it other times but I can't afford it.

Unbeknownsty · 10/02/2024 18:08

I pay £35, I gave her £40 once as she did an amazing job re-styling it. But back to £35 now it just needs a trim!

I do go every 6-8 weeks though, if I was a hairdresser I'd prefer someone to regularly come in rather than come in less with the odd £10 tip.

Teddleshon · 10/02/2024 18:11

I’m rather depressed by this thread. I didn’t grow up in Britain and when I arrived I was told that absolutely everyone tipped their hairdresser 10%. I’ve been doing it now for decades and with the bill for highlights north of £200 it’s rather painful.

No, they really don't. You just pay the price of whatever your haircut / colour is, and that's it.

Metallicant · 10/02/2024 18:15

I give £5 each time (cut and blow dry every 5/6 weeks)

aliceinanwonderland · 10/02/2024 18:16

Spaceracers · 10/02/2024 16:24

I don't tip! I feel bad for this but the cut and blow dry is expensive enough.

So you’d tip £20 for a £100 cut/blow dry/foils?

Squirrelblanket · 10/02/2024 18:20

I don't. I book my appointments online but pay for it on the day. They send me an email after saying 'would you like to tip your stylist?'

No! If I did, I would have done it when I paid!

effoffwind · 10/02/2024 18:30

I don't tip but do phone en route to see if anyone wants a Costa as I pass it ... occasionally he'll say yes please and offer the money but I don't take it

Small gift a Xmas and birthday , maybe a nice wine or funky socks

I don't tip otherwise

Hippypink · 10/02/2024 18:34

The owner cuts my hair, it’s just gone up to £71, I’ve never tipped him, use to give the girls who washed my hair a quid or two but since Covid he washes my hair - he still fits me in on the odd occasion if I haven’t booked and gives a terrific cut, been with him 25 years.

Moier · 10/02/2024 18:35

I go every 6 weeks for a wet trim.( It's only 10 yards away so l go after I've washed it). She's also my friend.. it's £15 for the trim.. l always giver her £17.
My daughter highlites it for me.

Turtlerunner · 10/02/2024 18:36

A fiver on a £50 cut & blow

Laurama91 · 10/02/2024 18:41

Also only at Christmas. And did give her a tip when she was pregnant and was last time I'd see her before maternity

Jook · 10/02/2024 18:44

Fiver on a £50 cut and blow dry; tenner for foils which are usually around £100. So 10% but I didn’t think of it that way, just seems about right.

LivesinLondon2000 · 10/02/2024 18:49

I don’t tip either. I have highlights and it already costs £200+
Most other people I know don’t tip - hair cuts/colour already so expensive in London. My DH tips in the barbers but he’s only paying £20 - I might tip then too but not at the price I’m paying

Crooklodge · 10/02/2024 18:50

I usually tip a fiver, the two seniors give it all to the trainee which I think is nice.

AhNowTed · 10/02/2024 18:53

£10.

Wasbedeudetetdas · 10/02/2024 18:56

I used to tip a small amount but tbh I started asking myself why I was doing it, couldn't find a reason, and so no longer will.

mammaCh · 10/02/2024 19:01

O wow, most people don't tip... I thought EVERYONE did?!
I always give about 10%, assumed that was normal. Even though it's a struggle for me usually.

Do people give tips to the garage that repairs their cars?

Very interested to know please!!

fuckssaaaaake · 10/02/2024 19:06

I own a coffee shop and when I get tipped I find it a bit weird. Like ah look at you earning a pittance, I'll help you out a bit. That's when they know i own the place. When they do ti my staff tho I like it and know they're very grateful

Pacifybull · 10/02/2024 19:07

I think it’s pretty rude to tip.
