Assistant changed Dds hairstyle

Not angry or upset 😂just curious.
Today I sent my 5 year old into school with her hair in two high bunches, with the rest of her hair down. She’s not had it like this before and saw a girl on the tv at the weekend with similar hair to hers put in this style and asked for it. It actually looked v cute. DD’s fair is getting longer now, past her shoulders and thick and wavy/curly.
When I picked her up from school, she had two low plaits in, I didn’t notice for ages and until she was in the car and only then as it was different to how I do it and then I remembered her hair in the morning.
I asked Dd why her hair had changed and she said the assistant called her over after lunch when she was playing with her friend and took her hair out and put two plaits in 🤷🏻‍♀️
My first thought was nits maybe, but we always get informed by the teacher that day, plus an email goes out.
Did she just not like the style 😅

Did often has her hair in two plaits or one, a ponytail or all down with a clip etc

I work in a primary school and would never do this. Seems odd. Only thing I can think of was it was in her face and she mentioned it was annoying her. I think that's the only reason I would touch a child's hair!

MaloneMeadow · 23/01/2024 22:14

At DD’s school they’re not allowed any hair down whatsoever unless it’s photo day, it all has to be up. Could that be the reason?

trippily · 23/01/2024 22:15

Probably one bunch came out. 5 year olds are not reliable narrators.
At our primary everyone should have their hair up.

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:18

@MaloneMeadow No, she’s had it down with a clip or hairband in so many times and no problem

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:19

@capnfeathersword I asked her that and she said no, hair was still up and she was just playing and she called her over

I'm a t.a in reception class.
Usually it's because 1 or both bunches has come out.
Child wants hair same as friends and takes their out and asks you to put it up.
School policy is no hair down (especially p.e)
They were playing hairdressers.

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:21

@Multipleexclamationmarks Thank you 🙂She said it was none of the above, my only thought was emergency influx of nuts in the school, but seems not

Smartiepants79 · 23/01/2024 22:21

Was some of it hanging loose? Lots of schools don’t like long hair hanging down, it’s can get stuck in stuff and yes, nits!

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:23

@Smartiepants79 It was two sections of bunches and the rest loose, so maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️

Multipleexclamationmarks · 23/01/2024 22:24

I wouldn't be touching any child's hair if I thought nits were going round.
On the other hand I'm quite good at Elsa plaits and will do them if asked and I've a spare minute , I'm also sometimes seen with random clips and bobbles poking out of my hair at strange angles if they're playing hairdressers.

I also suspect this^

An influx of nuts in the school?

Doesn't that normally happen on parents evening? 😁

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:27

😂*Nits, not nuts

Jellycats4life · 23/01/2024 22:27

I agree that 5yos aren’t reliable narrators and one side most likely fell out or was pulled out.

Londonrach1 · 23/01/2024 22:31

Long hair has to be up in school. Suspect hair came down and it was put up again. Dd had hers redone lots of time in the first year or so..

TulipTuesday · 23/01/2024 22:33

I have happy memories of one of my primary school playground assistants doing our hair in fancy plaits and twists for us. She always had lovely hair and we’d persuade her to do ours the same.
She would do maybe 2 girls per playtime and we had to take it in turns 😄
This was the 80s though when these things weren’t frowned upon.

Could it be that she asked her to do it? A favourite assistant doing your hair is a cool thing at that age.

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:36

She didn’t ask her to do it, but didn’t mind, I don’t, I was just curious. No rules about hair being down

Maybe the TA just really, really hates Baby Spice.

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:40

It was a bit like this amazing actress girl, but two bunches/ponies, one on each side, I don’t think it’s especially out there or in the way 🤷🏻‍♀️
I wondered if the assistant thought her hair was scruffy and needed doing 😂

It’s happened to all 3 of my girls at one point or another. I’ve always liked it as none of them ever let me do their hair. I’ve never thought much about it, when I have asked them they usually comment about hair coming out or in their faces.

i know one TA in reception who has terrible RA loves good days and likes to play hairdresser with the kids when she can.

Mumof2teens79 · 23/01/2024 23:09

I imagine it had come loose and dropped

Bananaspinkyglitter · 23/01/2024 23:23

Teacher here . Younger children with beautiful long hair- abhhhh! The temptation to plat it . We would love to braid it .

If it was free play / role play or the child’s hair hard come undone - we would brush the child’s hair and braid it! This sounds bonkers but it’s true ! It’s so tempting to just ‘do’ beautiful hair !

Bananaspinkyglitter · 23/01/2024 23:23

Take it is a compliment because you wouldn’t touch hair you perceived to be dirty! Just gorgeous hair!!!

Ghentsummer · 23/01/2024 23:30

Maybe the ta thought the hair had come loose and didn't realise it was intentionally that way. Because to me two bunches but some hair left down just doesn't sound right. I've only seen half up/half down hair where there is a plait above the loose hair.
