Assistant changed Dds hairstyle

Not angry or upset 😂just curious.
Today I sent my 5 year old into school with her hair in two high bunches, with the rest of her hair down. She’s not had it like this before and saw a girl on the tv at the weekend with similar hair to hers put in this style and asked for it. It actually looked v cute. DD’s fair is getting longer now, past her shoulders and thick and wavy/curly.
When I picked her up from school, she had two low plaits in, I didn’t notice for ages and until she was in the car and only then as it was different to how I do it and then I remembered her hair in the morning.
I asked Dd why her hair had changed and she said the assistant called her over after lunch when she was playing with her friend and took her hair out and put two plaits in 🤷🏻‍♀️
My first thought was nits maybe, but we always get informed by the teacher that day, plus an email goes out.
Did she just not like the style 😅

@Doireallyhavetopeopletoday It sounds like they had to cut a bit of blu tac out of her hair. Would you have preferred if they just ;left in?

At our primary all the girls had low pony tails, not a creative mother between us and I remember clearly the teacher doing last lesson geography because she asked, "any questions?" And every girl put their hand up, clear as day I remember her saying, "any questions unrelated to getting your hair braided before the disco?" And every hand went down. Miss Evans did about 15 girls hair for us before that disco and it was the most exciting time ever, then some legend of a TA from next doors class brought us in her wee bag of goodies including the orangey scented spicegirl body spray, roll on glitter in different colours, groovy chick lip glosses and for those truly wild ones, electric blue or lilac eyeshadow. What a time to have been alive 🥳

Sorry but this thread just unlocked this banger of a memory and dp would definitely not want me to wake him up to discuss the disco which 5,6,7,8 and cotton eyed Joe were the most highly requested tunes 😁

Totally unrelated, I banned cotton eyed joe from my wedding.

We are a Hockey town, and I’ve heard it for too many times in my life lol.

Pinkglittergirly · 25/01/2024 02:32

Jesus Christ! Why not just ask the teacher instead of making a post? If this is your only troubles bothering you at school then think your self lucky! Her hair was probably blown in her face with the wind, maybe it come loose, maybe the teacher thought she could catch nits! Maybe it looked a mess by the end of the day.

user1492757084 · 25/01/2024 02:55

Perhaps the assistant could see more than your daughter as to what was happening to the hair. It could have fallen more loose, some could have been over her eyes, who knows but something must have alerted the neat hairdresser inside.

Lwrenagain · 25/01/2024 03:26

@LovePoppy I have dyslexia and certain words jump at me and on first glance I saw wedding & cotton eyed joe and my wee brain thought it was your wedding song for about 5 seconds.
I was absolutely delighted until the rest of the words caught up with me! 😁😂

Might be a sign I should have it as mine. 😂

GingerScallop · 25/01/2024 03:37

@Conqueeftador that was the image that came to me too

Todolististoolong · 24/01/2024 23:16

Her small plait and rest of hair down style didn’t get touched today 🤷🏻‍♀️Must be the bunches

No, that's really not a reasonable conclusion here.
You say it happened after lunch....you said assistant? Did DD name the person?
Was it a lunch time assistant rather than a TA.
My girls used to love getting their hair done by the girls and mums that covered lunchtimes. It was a regular activity.
But I still believe it just would have been lose, not that the assistant didn't "like" it

myladybelle · 25/01/2024 04:27

This has happened to my kids a bunch of times. I take it as a mark of affection from the assistants to my kids and I like it.

Are we overthinking this

Yep

thechangling · 25/01/2024 06:33

It's not a big deal, is it 🤷‍♀️

Anonymousbosch39 · 25/01/2024 06:41

I work in a Preschool, the only time I would touch a child's hair is if it had fallen out of its style and was in a child's face.
In fact just yesterday a preschooler had bunches in her hair and it had come loose around her face and she kept swiping it out the way. I said "is it OK that I re-do the plait on this side because the wind has blown your hair and now it's all in your face" she said yes and let me do it.
A teacher would always ask first and then explain the reason why they were doing something.

Aroma220 · 25/01/2024 06:58

This is a classic mountain out of a molehill story.

Why didn’t you just phone the school or speak to the teacher/TA the next day? Or is the word of a 5 year old now gospel?

Our school policy is no hair down past shoulders, so it could be that. Or the bunches came loose/she got something in her hair and they helped her out. I’d be grateful if someone did that rather than letting a child look dishevelled.

Todolististoolong · 24/01/2024 23:16

My guess would be that one if two things

one or both had started to come loose and DD hasn’t noticed so the TA fixed it.
or
the TA saw the half-up do and misinterpreted it as half had come loose so fixed it on the misunderstanding.

PelicanPopcorn · 25/01/2024 07:13

Send her with the new style everyday for a week and see what happens 😉

SamPoodle123 · 25/01/2024 07:15

I have had many times where my dd has come home with braids or some other nice hairstyle...normally both my girls would not let me style there hair at a young age....but for some reason would let the nursery or childcare worker do it.

User373433 · 25/01/2024 07:38

I think there are several reasons why they could have done this for reasonable reasons, but if they just didn't like the style it's kind of outrageous!

Ask your dd what game her and her friend were playing, I wonder if it was something that meant her hair was falling in her face. Alternatively, I know that the TA's who ever plait or style a girls hair at my work are then bombarded with requests for the rest of their working days from eager girls who want their hair done by them. There is a chance your DD had been asking on previous days, and the TA had remembered it was her turn or something.

But to interrupt a child from play to do it is off.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 25/01/2024 07:48

DanielRicciardosSmile · 23/01/2024 22:36

Maybe the TA just really, really hates Baby Spice.

🤣

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 25/01/2024 07:49

As pp said: she either thought it had come out. Or it actually did.

But as long as your DD isn’t bothered it’s all good imo :)

If I was you, I would put her hair in plaits or similar. Nits are just too horrible, especially with the kind of hair she has. (Speaking from experience here…)

AStrangeStateofMatter · 25/01/2024 08:05

Todolististoolong · 23/01/2024 22:36

She didn’t ask her to do it, but didn’t mind, I don’t, I was just curious. No rules about hair being down

Have they suddenly changed the hair rules and not told anyone yet or you have missed a letter?

My nieces school change the rules about something at least twice a term- bobble colour, birthday cake, coat colour, pe kit all changed between September and Christmas. Rules about where to pick them up changed 3 or 4 times!

OrangeSlices998 · 25/01/2024 08:12

Maybe I’m the only one who’d be annoyed by this, especially calling her over and instigating changing her hair. If a hunch had come loose it’s far quicker to redo what’s come loose, than plait it and presumably take it all down and then do it. Why was this the TA’s priority? I would find this odd. If there’s no dress code for hair, leave it alone!

I would guess it was falling out and the TA was just sorting it out and did whatever came naturally to her!
My child’s hair looks like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards by the end of school so I’m just impressed they fixed it!

Whatdoido1987 · 25/01/2024 08:30

I used to do this if a child's hair had come loose, I'd say its more likely that this happened than the assistant just decided to plait your dds hair 😂 x

Bananaspinkyglitter · 23/01/2024 23:23

Teacher here . Younger children with beautiful long hair- abhhhh! The temptation to plat it . We would love to braid it .

If it was free play / role play or the child’s hair hard come undone - we would brush the child’s hair and braid it! This sounds bonkers but it’s true ! It’s so tempting to just ‘do’ beautiful hair !

We used to do this in golden time, one child would ask you to play hairdressers and before you know it you would have a line of children waiting to have their hair done.

Ypu really don’t see an issue with someone thinking they have a right to cut the hair of someone else child ?
id personally never do that
