Assistant changed Dds hairstyle

Not angry or upset 😂just curious.
Today I sent my 5 year old into school with her hair in two high bunches, with the rest of her hair down. She’s not had it like this before and saw a girl on the tv at the weekend with similar hair to hers put in this style and asked for it. It actually looked v cute. DD’s fair is getting longer now, past her shoulders and thick and wavy/curly.
When I picked her up from school, she had two low plaits in, I didn’t notice for ages and until she was in the car and only then as it was different to how I do it and then I remembered her hair in the morning.
I asked Dd why her hair had changed and she said the assistant called her over after lunch when she was playing with her friend and took her hair out and put two plaits in 🤷🏻‍♀️
My first thought was nits maybe, but we always get informed by the teacher that day, plus an email goes out.
Did she just not like the style 😅

I can think of several reasons for this...

  1. Hair was coming loose.
  2. Child was hitting other children in the face when swinging around.
  3. They were going to do some kind of craft (I had a student whose hair went straight into the Paint pot. We had to rinse out blue hair...)

Two strikes me as the most likely...

Heyhoitsme · 26/01/2024 09:03

Possibly the bunches had come loose and the assistant decided to redo the style but in a simple style that she could do.

Todolististoolong · 26/01/2024 10:29

I’ve sent her in with the same style today 🤷🏻‍♀️😂Let’s see how she comes out at the end of the day

My daughter used to come home with beautiful plaits from nursery. She loved it. They looked fantastic. I could never replicate them. The only issue for me was that I had to plait her hair every day til I washed it to keep it manageable. She has curly hair that falls in ringlets and as soon as it is plaited it will frizz into crazy fluff. I tend to use bobbles and create a French plait style bubble plait to keep it all away from face etc. Between school rules and practicality it’s always tied back. And stays that way for the most part. One bobble might slip but 3-4 on each side and it survives! One benefit of curlier hair is t friction keeping them in.

If it kept happening I’d certainly ask but as a one off as many others have said I wouldn’t bother. Too many reasons why it might happen.

Imisssleep2 · 26/01/2024 13:39

Probably a safety thing, long hair always used to have to be tied up when I was at school, so it doesn't get caught when playing etc.

MissRainbowBrite · 26/01/2024 13:52

Have they had PE where they've done forward rolls and the bunches were in the way? Or recently at our school the Reception class had Bikeability lessons on balance bikes and to get the helmets safely on we had to change some of the girls hairstyles.

twelvexii · 26/01/2024 17:29

Just ask next week and let us all know.

letsallmeetupinthehyear2000 · 26/01/2024 17:29

Just ask the assistant on Monday

My DD is in school nursery, and I have her her done up every day- different plaits, braids, bunches, etc, with bobbles/bows/scrunchies to match- never down at all as I’m so scared of her getting nits. I’m still traumatised from getting them myself in school 🙄😂 Her hair is always neat and relatively tight, so doesn’t often come loose, but a couple of times she’s come home with her bow in a different position or her scrunchie tied extra tight. I’m happy that her teachers fix her hair if it’s needed, as she’d just run around with her hair like a burst couch, and we’d definitely end up infested 😬

Rosebel · 26/01/2024 18:04

When my eldest was at nursery she had quite long hair and she always came home with her hair done beautifully (much nicer than when I sent her).
One of the nursery nurses used to love doing their hair and I thought it was lovely. That was a long time ago but I work with toddlers and will sometimes redo their hair (but in the same style. I wouldn't change it).
Seems a bit strange unless they've just changed policy to hair must be up

Housefullofcatsandkids · 26/01/2024 18:05

I'd assume it was half falling out so the TA has sorted it out for her before she loses her bobbles. I work in a school and whilst I wouldn't change a child's hairstyle for no reason I would call a child over if their hair was falling out and say "come here, let me sort your hair out". My daughter used to love coming back from nursery with her hair in braids because I couldn't do it 🤣

An influx of nuts in the school?

Doesn't that normally happen on parents evening? 😁

😂

OldPerson · 26/01/2024 19:32

She has long hair past her shoulders. It's only sensible and safe to have it tied up and out the way, which oyu didn't do. And the next time nits hits your school, you'll want every child with long hair to have compulsory plaits year-round. Nits is very time-consuming and expensive to get rid of - and you do end up telling your child to stay away from children with loose hair. Save "cute" for the weekends.

Zippyzooza · 26/01/2024 19:44

Amazed that so many schools have a policy around hair having to be up. I have never come across this or heard it mentioned by anyone I know.

My DD wears her hair up as this is what she prefers and has had nits on four occasions since August so not convinced it helps!

Nannygoat151 · 26/01/2024 19:52

Usually the policy is hair tied up because of nits Also 5 years olds stories aren’t always totally reliable . Have a word with the TA and just ask

RecklessGoddess · 26/01/2024 23:13

I'd have been really angry, what gives her the right to change the hairstyle, that your daughter asked to have. My sister is a classroom assistant and would never dream of doing such a thing!

pollymere · 26/01/2024 23:26

@RecklessGoddess Oh no! Kind underpaid worker helps student at school! I used to regularly do students hair at school for various reasons including being good at all sorts of fancy plaits. If that gets you angry I suggest you start taking blood pressure meds.

TheOriginalEmu · 26/01/2024 23:32

Stravaig · 25/01/2024 12:26

Who does that?

The person raising your child for you. It sounds like they're doing a good job!

Teachers are not ‘raising your child for you’. What a stupid thing to say.

RecklessGoddess · 27/01/2024 02:07

Actually, Teaching Assistants are paid, and my sister is one, and has said she wouldn't have done that, unless the child's hair was loosing the hairbands or the child asked her. There was absolutely NO reason for you to be so rude, get off your high horse and show some respect!!

Some people have war in their countries. That's something to be mad about. This? This is pathetic.

Blu23 · 27/01/2024 04:40

I wasn't mad at all when my daughter's lovely teacher/ assistant used to do beautiful french plaits for her, I thought it was a nice gesture and only a kind person would do it. My daughter's hair is long and thick and it takes time to do her hair daily so I appreciate anyone who has spent their time re-doing it for her out of their own time.

GlitteryRainbow · 27/01/2024 12:14

It's not down or up that's the issue. Hair usually needs to be tied back, if it wasn't all tied back, which it sounds like your DDs might not have been, perhaps it was done to tie it back. Did she have some hair in bunches and the rest loose?

PandasMum · 27/01/2024 19:24

2 bunches with some hair left out probably just looked to her like it had slipped so she probably just thought she was fixing it for her. My daughter often came home with different styles when little & I loved it as it showed she was being cared for.
