Are mumsneters TERFs

I started a thread on the new taskmaster line up here. This greatly angered a taskmaster fb group who screenshot the conversation and agreed all mumsnetters were TERFs. AIBU to suggest this isn't the general perception of others when you have mentioned mumsnet ? Ps. I still haven't heard of John Robins !

I am on Twitter and I have over 15 k followers. If I said this, I would get death threats. Even Martina Navratilova is told she doesn't know anything about women's sports.

Exactly. The gender ideology line is ‘trans women are women, regardless of hormones, surgery or even presentation. If anyone says they’re a woman, you must believe them. Any suggestion that anyone who says they’re a woman is denied the same liberties as someone who is a natal female is a transphobe, no debate.’ This applies to transsexuals who fully admit their biological sex as well, not just us whingy women on Mumsnet.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 18/01/2024 17:50

The confusion is all yours.

My issues is with this: " subset of males, even if they 'identify' (whatever the fuck that means) as women". It's offensive.

Why do you want TW excluded from women's sport, if not that they are male?

EasternStandard · 18/01/2024 17:50

Also @meowie does that mean you do want compelled speech, opaque inaccessible language and gender ideology in schools?

SwordToFlamethrower · 18/01/2024 17:51

Everyone's a TERF.

Especially your mum

Re third spaces and arguments with the trans community - you do realise that people with pro-trans views can have differing opinions too?

Of course. If you want third spaces I’ll agree on that

Now who’s going to convince trans people who are a no?

Are you a trans person btw? As they might ask a similar question ie ‘why should you decide for us on third spaces’

No, I'm a cis woman expressing an opinion, presumably like you.

CharlotteRumpling · 18/01/2024 17:51

There are many moderate trans people. Transwomen live all over the world, and don't insist on entering women's spaces or sports. They see themselves as a third gender.

Many of them in Asia have no choice but to beg, are treated very badly and beaten up by the police, or discriminated against. I have every sympathy for them. The extreme ones seem to get all the attention.

lifeturnsonadime · 18/01/2024 17:52

The only gaslighting I'm seeing on here is the claim that women are transphobic because we know that humans can't change sex and won't 'be kind' to the males who want to be in our single sex spaces.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 17:53

Same, I am too.
Almost like all women have their own opinions, isn't it?!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 17:53

Well that depends if she wants to identify herself that way. I don't consider myself "cis" because it is a nonsense.

meowie · 18/01/2024 17:51

No I’m just a woman. Definitely not ‘cis’

As pp said you’ve a far easier crowd on this thread with your views than you would on Twitter or Reddit on third spaces for trans people

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 17:55

Everyone's a TERF

Especially your mum

You don't speak for everyone.
Or all mums.
This one isn't.

Are Mumsnetters TERFs

Honestly, there's a loud minority of MNers who are male-haters. It's relentless and depressing (at best). Being a TERF is just another way to hate all males.

I'm not an expert on sports and don't particularly care about it, but I acknowledge it is very important to others. And I wouldn't use the language "exclude", I would suggest taking into account the physical advantage that most transwomen born biologically male have over biological women.

First define exactly what you mean by those.

bellinisurge · 18/01/2024 17:56

Trans identified men aka transwomen don't want third spaces. No validation of womanhood in a third space.
I used to Be Nice. I used to Be Kind. Seen too many entitled men telling women what to think, what to say and what to do.
Be kind is Over.

What do males have to do with this? Though to be honest I think your conflicting hating males with hating the injustices against women that has been ongoing for millennia, and is currently being turned up to 11…

I'm just a normal woman Confused

Ah yes because no trans people are female ....? Is that your logic?

Seriously you need to stop yanking at that string. Your whole outfit is about to unravel showing the full TERF underneath.

Boomboom22 · 18/01/2024 17:59

Can we not use the derogatory term cis? It's offensive to suggest women should identify with and petform femininity and submissiveness to be a real female and plays right into the regressive sexist stereotypes promoted by tra about what being a woman is. Its really not on.

EasternStandard · 18/01/2024 17:59

meowie · 18/01/2024 17:56

First define exactly what you mean by those.

It’s the opposite to what you don’t want

Probably easier for you just to say what you do want wrt those areas

That’s kind of funny so well done
