Are mumsneters TERFs

ChedderGorgeous · 18/01/2024 13:25

I started a thread on the new taskmaster line up here. This greatly angered a taskmaster fb group who screenshot the conversation and agreed all mumsnetters were TERFs. AIBU to suggest this isn't the general perception of others when you have mentioned mumsnet ? Ps. I still haven't heard of John Robins !

If you think something is transphobic then report it. The mods will deal with it.
Unless you’re just talking bollocks, that is.

You must be new around here, though you've certainly got the attitude down right! Mods are constantly dealing with it anyway, it's nothing new.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/01/2024 15:50

I see it all over the place but I don’t know what it means so no idea 😁

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 15:50

CharlotteRumpling · 18/01/2024 15:46

"Appears to be" being the operative word, as you have no examples.

Pretty sure you know exactly what I mean.

I avoid that board because of the transphonia. You go look if you want.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/01/2024 15:51

There's a whole board that appears to be solely dedicated to transphobic posts, somewhere in the feminism section. Have fun.

Again, any examples? Any at all? Come on, at least try.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 15:51

Yes, just like they're also refereeing Israel v Palestine threads, dangerous dog threads, breastfeeding threads. All the areas where people are vocal for their particular viewpoint.

Well, I won’t just post and run but there are lots of threads that are very transphobic stating that they will never accept that somebody biologically born a male, can then become female. But I can. I do accept people are born into the wrong bodies and I do believe that they have the right to transition. I will happily use their preferred pronouns. I have no issues with sharing public toilets with them. I have no issue should any of my children feel they weren’t happy with their gender. I have family members who are 100% happier through transitioning and seeing their mental health improve is wonderful. So I do take issue with those who cannot accept it. I’m not going to keep arguing about it (because I know I won’t change any minds, just as mine won’t be changed). But I stand by my opinion that mumsnet is full of TERFs.

A male cannot become female. Or vice versa. That is just a fact.

A person can have extensive surgical or medical intervention to give them the appearance of being the opposite sex. Some people with dysphoria about their sexed body, may feel this is the best way for them to manage their dysphoria.

Other people may not go down the medical route but still wish to dress and present in a way associated with the opposite sex in their culture.

But this does not mean they are the opposite sex.

Nor does it mean predatory men will not take advantage of the safe guarding loophole of removing sex -segregated spaces.

Nor does it mean a male saying they have a trans identity is less of risk than other men to women.

Nor does it remove the sex based advantage of males in sport against females.

And that is why we need to sex segregated spaces. The invention of gender ideology did not remove that need.

There's a whole board, the feminism and gender one. Just click into it and see for yourself.

CharlotteRumpling · 18/01/2024 15:52

Vague accusations. No examples, except one poster who has clarified that she believes women who support women only spaces are transphobic. Fair enough. Then most of us are transphobic.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/01/2024 15:52

Three posts now of 'transphobia!' and STILL no examples. Colour me shocked.

Blueeyedmale · 18/01/2024 15:53

AInightingale · 18/01/2024 15:43

Are you a male, just going by your user name. A man who has had his genitals removed and the remaining flesh fashioned into a cavity is not a woman, he has not 'changed sex'. A woman is not a penisless man. I feel that too many men believe this, while they wouldn't for one second believe that a woman with a plastic phallus shoved in her pants, or a piece of flesh fashioned from her arm attached to her groin, is a man either.

I was born a male I still am a male and I still have the same genitals I was born with hope that answers your question

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 15:53

Whinging about transphobia doesn't really have any bearing on the material reality of needing to talk about biological sex and what women need for their safety, privacy and dignity.

popebishop · 18/01/2024 15:53

stating that they will never accept that somebody biologically born a male, can then become female. But I can.

This is fascinating to me. You think someone can literally change sex because of their thoughts and feelings? Really, are you being honest here?

Or do you think there is something physical someone can do to change sex- if so, what?

Yes. You've described modding. Not sure why you even posted this reply tbh.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 15:41

A lot of posters here are proudly transphobic, unfortunately. Not everyone though.

How about reframing 'transphobia' as 'pro women'?

We don't have an 'irrational fear' of trans- in fact, we mostly couldn't care less if you want to wear a dress and a slash of lippy (tho sorry if we snigger a bit), but we draw the line at you then entering female spaces.

Thats not a phobia, that's basic safety, privacy and dignity.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/01/2024 15:53

Sorry four. Why do I have to look for myself? It's your accusation. Back it up.

I'm on that board a lot. Yet to see any transphobia. Lots of defence of single sex spaces though.

Ah "don't know don't care" the calling cry of a huge proportion of men when it comes to women's rights! Women's stuff innit

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/01/2024 15:55

You appear to be saying that something you haven't read is transphobic, and you won't read it because its transphobic, and you won't give any examples of the transphobia of the thing you haven't read, because you have not read it because its so transphobic.

That's not really a respectable position to take, is it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 15:57

Yes, you can do the same to mine! How about we both post what we want to. You can carry on making your non points and I will make the posts I want to as well! Isn't freedom of speech great!
