Are mumsneters TERFs

1000 replies

ChedderGorgeous · 18/01/2024 13:25

I started a thread on the new taskmaster line up here. This greatly angered a taskmaster fb group who screenshot the conversation and agreed all mumsnetters were TERFs. AIBU to suggest this isn't the general perception of others when you have mentioned mumsnet ? Ps. I still haven't heard of John Robins !

I was born a male I still am a male and I still have the same genitals I was born with hope that answers your question

And who gives you the right to give away women’s only spaces? Creepy username BTW.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 15:58

Morningmeeting · 18/01/2024 15:56

You appear to be saying that something you haven't read is transphobic, and you won't read it because its transphobic, and you won't give any examples of the transphobia of the thing you haven't read, because you have not read it because its so transphobic.

That's not really a respectable position to take, is it?

It's ok if you don't find my position respectable. The feeling is mutual.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 15:58

It's ok if you don't find my position respectable. The feeling is mutual.

The difference is though, that I can explain why I don't find your position respectable or coherent

Whereas you are throwing around accusations without evidence or argument.

SpeedyDrama · 18/01/2024 16:00

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 15:50

Pretty sure you know exactly what I mean.

I avoid that board because of the transphonia. You go look if you want.

Yet you can’t give examples of what you consider transphobia.

Treeper22 · 18/01/2024 16:00

Sorry, I'm still waiting for ANYONE to explain what a woman is without referencing biology or socially constructed gender stereotypes? If you can answer me this I may be able to understand finally the science behind gender ideology.....

Blueeyedmale · 18/01/2024 16:01

Treeper22 · 18/01/2024 15:55

Ah "don't know don't care" the calling cry of a huge proportion of men when it comes to women's rights! Women's stuff innit

That's your opinion of my response. I actually care very passionately about the rights and their safety.

I’m a few years down the line of asking ‘what is being a woman outside of personal beliefs/biology’ and not once been given an answer….

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 16:02

Yes, it's always very telling that genderists can never back their position up, they just descend into sneering and insults. Because they don't have any rational arguments for why I should believe some males are women. Because they say so? No.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 16:02

I think the OP is getting a very clear answer to the question at least.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 16:03

I'm on that board a lot. Yet to see any transphobia
Would you say "I have a problem with them all" isn't just "concern for single sex spaces"?
Just one example.

Desecratedcoconut · 18/01/2024 16:04

Don't give me arguments or facts, women ...I have FEELINGS.

I honestly apologise if I have misconstrued..I may have committed the mumsnet holy sin of not following the thread closely enough and reacted due to taking your comment out of context...I appreciate your position if you care about the safety of women and girls...

soupycustard · 18/01/2024 16:06

I understand (I won't say 'believe' because it is based on clear scientific understanding of sexual differences between male and female) that sex is binary and immutable, and is not the same as 'gender'.
I am a feminist in that I support the right for women not to be discriminated against on the basis of sex, and further that that does not simply mean 'equal rights' but that it must also include protections for women, such as single sex spaces and single sex sport.
Apparently that makes me a 'terf'.
I think it would be more appropriate to simply call me 'feminist' and/or 'sciency nerdy person' but 'sticks and stones' and all that.

Was that a problem with them all full stop. Or a problem with them all using spaces not for them? Context is key. What did the actual post say? Did you report it?

Treeper22 · 18/01/2024 16:07

SpeedyDrama · 18/01/2024 16:02

Yeah me too but I'm a stubborn cow 🐄 🙃 and if it helps those new to the debate then good....

WallaceinAnderland · 18/01/2024 16:08

Just because someone has a friend and/or family member that may have transitioned doesn't mean they can't be a bigot?!
Which is what you seem to be implying.

No, I'm not saying that. I was replying to the statement I quoted: "I avoid the feminism board like the plague as somebody with friends and family members who have transitioned"

You can have friends and family members who have transitioned and visit the feminism board. The two are not mutually incompatible. As I said, a lot of the discussion is to learn and inform so that we can help our own children.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 16:08

Was that a problem with them all full stop

Yes.

ADoggyDogWorld · 18/01/2024 16:09

No one will tell me how a man can become a woman.

I would love to know, not being facetious, I am open to hearing how this happens.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 16:10

It's "transphobia" to even ask @ADoggyDogWorld

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/01/2024 16:10

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 16:08

Then yes, I'd find that transphobic and report it. I personally haven't seen any comments like that thankfully.

What thread, what time was the comment posted?

Treeper22 · 18/01/2024 16:12

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2024 16:06

Good luck with that!

Thing is, I understand that having debated this for years that this question has been done to death but there are many people still new to it or questioning and I feel that this a fundamentally important question to keep asking as it's not good enough to go 'oh we've covered that, next!' So I will, stubbornly keep asking even if it makes look like a newbie (which I most certainly am not!)

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 18/01/2024 16:12

What thread, what time was the comment posted?
What has that got to do with anything?
You either think it was or it wasn't.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 16:13

Lots of sealioning going on here.
