To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

I have only ever bought 2 pairs of snag tights but the shorts, both we awful, considering I ordered 2 pairs completely the same when they came they were both completely different, one pair too small the other too big, 1 pair was really thin I put my fingers through them, and one pair was really long!
so over rated and far too expensive, another company taking advantage of the bigger sized ladies

Hi this doesn't link to anything for me. I can't find snags FB page though, it seems to have disappeared for me.

Can you tell me what you linked to? Thanks

It was a link to the Snag FB page, it was working earlier but isn’t now.

It works for me. It just links to the same statement as on Instagram, but posted on their Facebook page.

Hee hee. Got them all in a tizz.

not wanting women to die in “rough sex gone wrong” defences is not “kink shaming”. these people are so open minded their brains have fallen out.

we’ll take our dreadful tainted, bigoted money elsewhere

Oh very good Snag! You're so inclusive...of everyone except mumsnetters. Got it.

MeinKraft · 22/01/2024 21:01

'Have we any evidence ANY of this is in public?

Any of these badges spotted in the local Tesco?

Didnt think so.'

Do you think people are sewing them to their pyjamas?

MeinKraft · 22/01/2024 21:07

'They do not care if listeners to woman's hour don't like their company or products. You are not their audience or market.

You know who wants to have a badge that says 'Choke Me'? 21 year olds who want to feel like they are rebelling against the world. Middle aged mumsnet users not liking it is only going to make the products more attractive,'

Their bread and butter is comfy tights for fat people, a staple wardrobe item for middle aged mums. MN was hugely behind the early popularity of Snag! There was a long thread during Covid when they asked people to order tights they wouldn't get for ages to keep the company afloat. Everyone was supporting Snag then. 21 year olds and blokes aren't going to keep a tights company afloat.

Yes I think I'm so annoyed by the response because it doesn't acknowledge my concerns whatsoever and accuses me of bullying and judging individuals for their preferences! I can't believe any corporate person wrote that.

If it was a corporate response it would say something like

' We were troubled to hear about the post on Mumsnet about our company. We too condemn violence against women. However we feel these items have a place in people feeling empowered to own their sexuality and preferences and they remain on our NSFW site- which we be giving an 18+ warning in response to these concerns. We are always receptive to feedback and are keen to get it right for our community.'

They instead went fully on the defensive and showed themselves for what they are.

I applaud them for that response. Many would and do go off on the deep end and take followers with them, but they've been polite, explained their side and left it open. Neither side has to agree with each other. It's ok to not agree, and I think some of their followers on the comments section need to realise this.

You can have an opinion, accept others have theirs and peacefully coexist in that knowledge.

It's a very poor response not acknowledging my concerns as I've expanded upon above.

Yep, I think it might well have been here that I heard of them and decided to give them a go. I think a lot of 21 year olds who want to be super cool would look at the photos - on their main site - and be put off by the number of fat people. I'm not saying that all 21 year olds are like that but people who want to attract a young audience tend to highlight the skinny. One of the things I liked about Snag was the different shapes and sizes of models they used.

They might not think that people like us are/were an important customer but we are/were and they will be sorry when they lose us in droves. I'm talking to all of my friends about them too. It will spread and they will lose an awful lot of custom. What a shame they decided that offensive stickers were their hill to die on.

MeinKraft · 22/01/2024 21:21

@NotMyTights that would have been a good response and might have continued buying from them. After all, you can't agree on everything. But that patronising load of shit!! Obviously Brie decided she would 'educate' us all. And the comments are full of 'oh choking is great mumsnet is totally poisonous' and Snag agreeing .. of course a forum for women should just be totally disregarded as poisonous. Fucking brainless wonders.

They stopped any chance of getting my money some time ago. Unfortunately it's everywhere. I like to report knicker reviews from AGP's to M & S. The other day I actually had to do one on Bon Marche. It seems nowhere is safe from the pervs.

It seems nowhere is safe from the pervs.

Yes, quite.

Also I’m over this ‘kink shaming’ bollocks. For me to ‘kink shame’ someone I’d need to be aware of their ‘kink’. There’s zero reason for that to be the case unless you’re unwittingly involving people in something that should be kept private. Fuck off with that.

Not allowed to link it here but I suggest looking at the snag thread on tattle to see what this company are really like and what they support

Tattle as in Tattle.Life if so do you know how to get an invite to that. Registration is like always invite only. thanks

Notts90 · 22/01/2024 21:42

This!

Kink shame, as if it's even a thing. Just some more BS made up terminology. 🙄

I'll be honest after reading the comments and how they are responding on Instagram I take back my applause. Their true colours are showing in how they are choosing to reply to people, and I much prefer your style of response which would have been a far better and less alienating way of dealing with this.

There’s a reason why shame exists and it is exactly to shame men who get sexual pleasure fe violence against women

Yes - I am absolutely fine with shaming men who enjoy strangling women.

But apparently Snag tights thinks that violence against women is hilarious fun and that if women complain about it we’re being old-fashioned meanies.

Happily there are other companies that sell tights.

Yes I wonder what it will be next that we aren’t allowed to object to. We’ve already had that American teacher telling her class that we aren’t allowed to use the word paedophile. “We're gonna call them MAPs, minor attracted persons. So don't judge people just because they wanna have sex with a five-year-old.”

We aren’t allowed to shame paedophiles or men who strangle women in case we hurt their feelings… And the people saying this think that they have the moral high ground. 👀

Isn’t it odd how it never matters if it’s women’s feelings being hurt, or women being offended. Only men’s feelings matter apparently.

It's virtually impossible to get an invite but registration does open up now and again you just have to keep checking.

When did all ‘shaming’ become an evil act?

It’s human instinct for a reason.

If it’s wrong to judge and shame the normalisation of a sexual perversion that actively results in harm then sign me up for the bad girls club.
