To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

I used to like them but am unlikely to buy any more for similar reasons. Thanks to those who recommended better tights - off to browse!

They make children's tights too.

Where are people finding these fetishising pictures of men?! I’ve just looked through 6 months of the snag official facebook page, and checked comments on any ‘sexy’ underwear posts and I can’t find any.

There were 2 pictures of a drag queen- one in a 60’s style turtleneck jumper with a dress over it and tights, and one in a knee length evening dress- is this what people mean?

I also searched for snag tights nsfw on Facebook and no such group appears to exist? There was an ‘all new fans’ page- but a year of posts were just women selling tights still in their packaging, or selling skirts etc. Nothing sexual, never mind fetish looking. And no men.

Hmmmmaybe · 21/01/2024 10:06

@Milange no not those -
a while ago there were pics of men in underwear suspenders etc

How long ago? I was expecting to find a den of vice but I can’t find anything at all (although I know some people think all drag is fetish).

NCADHD · 21/01/2024 10:12

Best way is to flag this in eg the comments on their FB posts

It always amazes me that those who are so obviously horrified by these sorts of pictures will go to such lengths to find said pictures.

If it were me, I'd just not ask to join the private Facebook group that's clearly labelled NSFW. But maybe that's no fun, I don't know.

Movinghouseatlast · 21/01/2024 11:15

I won't buy from them again. As someone who was choked by a man in the street for refusing to smile for him I find glamoourising choking rather upsetting.

Their chub rub shorts are shit anyway- just cut off tights. Big Bloomers Company are much better.

I've thought for a while that a lot of their images are porn inspired.

Milange · 21/01/2024 11:29

Ah yes, men on there. All the photos are pretty horrendous to be honest- fuck knows what makes people want to take pictures of themselves like that, never mind post them online!

Luckily they are very difficult to find so no one will stumble over them without looking to find them.

PrawnDumplings · 21/01/2024 15:56

Better tights look great!

asterel · 21/01/2024 18:53

I don’t see any problem with women’s adult sex toy websites - used to be a regular customer of Myla and Coco de Mer when I was younger and had more disposable income (pre kids! 😂) - but “choke me” and “c* s**” cannot be anything but grossly offensive and misogynist. There’s nothing remotely feminist or empowering about that - it’s pure porn-deluded, nasty, vile, women-hating misogynism.

And also illiterate, given that c*m is nothing more than an illiterate porn misspelling of “come”, which has only become normalised among people who are more porn-influenced than they are educated.

So it’s not just vile, but also thick as mince. I have to say the proprietors must also be thick as mince if they think illiterate porn misspellings on a badge is a good business strategy.

I’ve literally never ever seen it spelled “Come”. It’s pretty universally referred to as “Cum” even on medical websites.

You must be pretty young! ”Come” has been in existence as a euphemism for orgasm/ejaculate since about the 17th century or before 😂 Those of us who were used to reading erotica and adult material well before the advent of online porn know that it was the default spelling until widespread porn use made the illiterate version catch on in recent years.

Solution: read a better class of erotica, where it’s still used.

“Cum” (which is still in widespread non-nsfw use as the Latin “with”) is definitely not a medical term, ha ha! 🤣

JaneAustensHeroine · 21/01/2024 19:25

As previous poster said, a lot of their images are porn-inspired and those patches are disgusting. I won’t be buying for them and am shocked that women who work for the company haven’t flagged this.

I’m in my 40s. Pretty sure if you did a poll you would find the majority of people spell it “cum”.

either way, low blow and pointless to boot. So many valid things to criticise and you decide to call people thick for a different spelling.

You decided to challenge her assertion first. "Cum" is pornified and creepy.

Unfortunately, it really is the pornified male and Americanised internet version of “come”, which is the actual term! Usually when people use the misspelling “cum”, they’ve got it from porn, the internet or men texting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty widespread misspelling, but it is still a misspelling. Appeared relatively recently, too. If you look at the OED you can see “come” has a long history, from way back when there were other metaphors too, like “to spend” and “to enjoy”, but “to come” (v for orgasm) and rather later “come” (n for ejaculate) became the default quite a long time ago.

On a related note, anyone noticed young women recently starting using “come/cum” as a term for female lubrication, but in an apparent idea that women normatively and routinely ejaculate? Drives me mad in erotica/fanfic. Women don’t produce “come” (of any spelling). They have lubricating fluid, and sadly most of what passes for “squirting” is fake (or dilute urine, or vaginal fluid with urine and gland fluid). Even the most extensive scientific studies have never found a great deal of evidence for female ejaculation, and those that did find any seemed to conclude that any fluid is a mixture of dilute urine and/or possibly fluid buildup from the Skene’s glands. But in fact, vaginal lubrication is an amazing fluid that is secreted only by the mucous membranes of the vagina, is made by those cells from blood plasma and seeps out of the cell walls. Lubrication production increases during female orgasm, but it’s actually from sexual excitement more generally.

Vaginal lubricant is massively understudied, and may have all sorts of contributory properties in terms of fertility and sperm selection that aren’t yet well understood. It isn’t anything remotely equivalent to male ejaculate; and it makes me sad to think that young women’s idea of sex is now so purely porn-centric and male-centric that now sex scenes written by young female writers who have had their brains addled by porn and “kink” and fake “squirting” videos and seem to think that women produce “cum” like men do 😂😩

asterel · 21/01/2024 20:20

NB and sorry for those who are just interested in tights, but I actually find that it’s really horrifying how in an era of mass porn consumption, many people seem as underinformed about the mechanics of sex as ever. Given what I write about lubrication (above), it make me 🙄 when post-op trans women on X etc. claim the neo-vagina “gets wet”. No, without those cells of the vagina mucosa, it really doesn’t and isn’t ever going to. Skin cells aren’t ever going to produce vaginal cell wall blood plasma exudate; it’s factually impossible. But it’s easy to believe all sorts when most people know nothing about how bodies work!

Has anyone on here made their feelings known to the company? Is it worth flagging this with someone like Womans Hour? They frequently discuss the high levels of sexual assault women experience. Maybe some bad publicity might make them rethink what they are contributing to.

That is literally free publicity from them.

They do not care if listeners to woman's hour don't like their company or products. You are not their audience or market.

You know who wants to have a badge that says 'Choke Me'? 21 year olds who want to feel like they are rebelling against the world. Middle aged mumsnet users not liking it is only going to make the products more attractive,

MotherofGorgons · 22/01/2024 11:53

The great thing about being a middle aged MN user is that you don't have to be a " cool girl" putting up with porny male aesthetics any more. And that goes for their normal site too.
