To be disappointed partner booked "holiday" ?

So me and partner have 2 holidays booked this year.
Greece in September and a ski holiday in December.
I'm more than happy with this
He has now told me he has booked us 3 nights in Gran Canaria in 4 weeks
I questioned the 3 nights thing and he said they were really cheap flights (under £20 ) so he thought why not
Aibu to be a bit annoyed
It's a long way to go for 3 nights
We land on the Sunday at 10.30 am
We fly back on the Wednesday at 11.30 am

Would you be annoyed going all that way for 3 nights ?

It’s like saying ‘I don’t slap my wife on a regular basis like others do, so I am allowed to punch once a year.’ It makes no sense. Flying on holiday is not necessary and a super easy way to cut our carbon footprint by a huge amount. It’s wrong. It’s so unfair on those that will suffer the most.

You either care or you don’t. There is no justification for knowingly spewing tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, putting our children’s future in jeopardy and committing millions of people to death and suffering, because you fancy a holiday. If you don’t care then that’s up to you, but it’s morally wrong.

Just look up the carbon footprint of your flights each year.

I agree that pet ownership is a massive problem too. Fashion industry. Our general overconsumption and waste is dreadful. We are a greedy and selfish nation.

No I think that’s a flawed and illogical comparison so I won’t engage further on that with you using the DV analogy and it’s just verging on absurd.

however I will say kudos to you for not being in denial about pet ownership (or the fashion industry) and not just singling out flying. At least you’re consistent.

Mybootsare You might not want to bring children into the world if everyone keeps going on "a few flights a year".

If you’re going down that line of reasoning I could just as easily say some would be discouraged to bring kids into the world if everyone decides to own a couple of large dogs and big (non electric car, and eat meat every day)

My point from my pp still stands - there is double standards with people not wanting to compromise on owning pets & consuming a high meat diet but single out someone going on a couple of holidays a year. Some people are consistent but there’s a massive amount of double standards.

I don’t go on holiday 3 times every single year, there have been times when I may have flown 3 times a year but it’s not necessarily every year and some years I don’t fly at all. I did an average of how much I fly per year over the past decade and it comes out at around 1.2.

I don’t want to derail the thread further so this will probably be my last post on this thread, but this quiz below is so interesting if anyone wants to genuinely on their own carbon footprint as opposed to just pointing the finger at others

I did it a few times to compare the carbon footprint of various lifestyles using fictional personas. My fictional pet owning, high meat diet, car owning non-flying semi detached house living friends didn’t fare much better than I did. In some cases worse - their carbon footprint was higher.

No I wouldn’t; it’s not far and importantly on the same time zone.

Tildycatpuss1968 · 16/01/2024 12:37

I think I’d far rather go to Gran Canaria. Just enjoy the warm sunshine and try not to stress about it.

bemusedmoose · 16/01/2024 19:17

With kids I would say not worth the hassle but I would be dead chuffed if I didn't have kids!

Longer would be nice but hey - it's cheap! I haven't been abroad for over 18 years - I would jump at the chance

You are so lucky! I would be over the moon I

Assuming his mates don't have sex with him on holiday, he needs to be reminded that he's the lucky one

Did you go in the end?
