To be disappointed partner booked "holiday" ?

So me and partner have 2 holidays booked this year.
Greece in September and a ski holiday in December.
I'm more than happy with this
He has now told me he has booked us 3 nights in Gran Canaria in 4 weeks
I questioned the 3 nights thing and he said they were really cheap flights (under £20 ) so he thought why not
Aibu to be a bit annoyed
It's a long way to go for 3 nights
We land on the Sunday at 10.30 am
We fly back on the Wednesday at 11.30 am

Would you be annoyed going all that way for 3 nights ?

Airport is a 25 min taxi ride away but flight is 6 am so will need to book hotel
On way back the flight is to a airport 2 hours away from home
So he's booked a hotel for that night in that city then come home via train next day
It's a lot

Why do you need to book a hotel?! I'm around 50 mins from airport, always get first flight of the day (less likely to be impacted by delays!) and have never booked a hotel...sure, it's an early start, but a 4hr flight is long enough to have a snooze

BobnLen · 14/01/2024 14:50

I would be put off by the amount of hotels rather than the lack of days

@sandrapinchedmysandwich I would be anxious that the taxi wouldn't turn up at 3am and to pay for parking at airport if we drove would cost more than booking the £50 premier inn at the airport
Plus the taxi would be around £35 so only a extra £15 to stay in hotel

3am?! If you're only going for 3 nights, take carry on and get to the airport for what, 5? Leave home at 4.30, 4.15 at a push.

Bluebellsbells · 14/01/2024 14:51

Sounds a lot better than 3 nights in Leeds! Watch Travelman- it's not only very entertaining but they do have a 48 hours in Tenerife (I know it's not the same island but close) tells you the kind of things you can do in that time!

Vinrouge4 · 14/01/2024 14:51

Three days in the sun in dreary February. What's not to like?

Creatureofhabit87 · 14/01/2024 14:54

It’s your third holiday… sounds so terrible. 🙄

Devpatelslaughingeyes · 14/01/2024 14:56

I’ve just been to India for 8 days. It’s not the time you spend in any place it’s what you pack into it. Go and have fun 😁

Funkyslippers · 14/01/2024 14:56

I wouldn't like it because it means no doubt I'd have to get up insanely early for both flights and I'd probably need a holiday to recover once I'd got home!

BobnLen · 14/01/2024 14:57

It's not really a holiday, more a short break with a lot of in and out of different hotels

Parentofeanda · 14/01/2024 14:58

I see your point but would rather go for 3 nights than stay at home for the 3 nights

mouseychick · 14/01/2024 13:23

That's incredibly controlling

😂😂🙄🙄

DillDanding · 14/01/2024 14:09

It’s only a short flight, it’s fine.

We often do 3 night breaks - and have done both New York and Boston which is a longer flight, and it still seems like a decent break.

Canaries are not a short flight?
France, Spain would be, but not Canaries.

WtP · 14/01/2024 15:05

I think its a lovely gesture by him, though perhaps if he knows you really well he should have thought "perhaps I'll check first"

What is obvious once again is that so many posters don't read a thread properly! So many asking questions that the OP originally said or addressed in a later reply!!

Twiglets1 · 14/01/2024 15:13

Yes I would be annoyed. We went to GC in the summer and the flight is 4.5 hours so with getting to the airport in plenty of time, flight delays and journey the other end, it felt like we spent all day travelling just to get there. I wouldn't want to go for less than 5 nights personally, or even 7.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/01/2024 15:13

Could he find a friend to go with if you don't fancy it?

SaltySeaAir · 14/01/2024 15:13

I'd love the fact my partner had booked a trip for us without me doing all the Leg work!

housethatbuiltme · 14/01/2024 15:16

I WISH someone did stuff like that for me. Its a literal dream.

How ungrateful can you be.

ExtremelyJoyous · 14/01/2024 15:19

The flight is what, 4 or 5 hours?

I sometimes have to drive 4 hours to Edinburgh and 4 hours back in the same day!

So no I don’t think it’s too far for a blast of sun.

EndOfTheLine2023 · 14/01/2024 15:19

You sound so ungrateful and entitled, just be grateful.

RampantIvy · 14/01/2024 15:20

The flight to Gran Canaria is takes about the same amount of time it takes me to drive to visit family so, yes, I would do it.

Pookerrod · 14/01/2024 15:22

I went to Seville last February for 3 nights, it was bliss to feel the sun on my face and stroll around without a coat in the middle of our hideous winter.

Emmacb82 · 14/01/2024 15:26

I hate flying so for me it would be my worst nightmare but honestly sometimes blokes can’t do right for doing wrong! I would be over the moon if my husband arranged something like this and surprised me! I suggest to just go with the flow and be excited about a last minute trip away. You could plan to go to a uk city for 3 nights and get caught on the motorway for hours and the weather is likely to be crap here so go for it! And be happy!

Filterphobia · 14/01/2024 15:29

I went to Gran Canaria for a hen party for 3 nights many years ago. I remember someone round the pool asking us how long we were there for and when we told them 3 nights their face was a picture! 🤣
TBF I couldn’t have handled more than 3 nights with all the partying we did!
Enjoy your trip OP, I wish my partner would book me a mini break away.

pizzaHeart · 14/01/2024 15:32

feelingalittlehorse · 14/01/2024 14:03

I literally would love to live a life where a surprise trip to a nice, warm, sunny place is the source of so much navel gazing and hand wringing 🤣🤣

You go to Leeds OP, and I’ll go to Gran Canaria in your place. Problem solved 😊😊

And what do you mean by that????
Leeds beats GC anytime!

cakewench · 14/01/2024 15:33

YABU, unless there's some further information such as the trip is out of your budget or you've got twin toddlers or something (in which case I'd want to maximise my holiday time for every hour spent entertaining them on a flight!)

When I was young and single and living in the US, I flew to London for a long weekend to see some shows. It's possible to do it and enjoy it, but I feel as if there's something else to the story if you're this irritated by it?
