I think 1.5 hours is more than enough but apparently 'everyone' allows their DC way more.

Interested to know facts from others (not judgments etc)

In a city?? Whittling? Are you actually for real!! maybe pop back to the 1950's where you seem to be stuck 😂

They don't have to whittle 😀but I am sure it can be done in cities

What teenage activities, except activities to do with screens, do you think are suitable in cities in the 2020s?

In the winter, outside of organised activities, not much to do outside in all honesty. But as I said, there is 6 or 7 hours between getting in from school and going to bed. 2-3 hours of gaming still leaves plenty of time for non gaming activities.

Maybe just jettison them out of the house, take the opportunity to extol the virtues of your screen free parenting, and hope they don't end up in a bad way when they are taken under the wing of a kindly adult with a warm home to share when they are cold and bored of whittling?

@EarthlyNightshade my answer was general not just about now -a large part of the year it's not dark in the evening.

I totally agree that when it's dark in this country it's v hard for kids to get out - we have near us one park with floodlit football cage and play area and it's v popular for this reason. more parks should be set up like this so everything doesn't move indoors at 4pm. It seems to me a really basic improvement parks could have.

BUT _ my answer was specifically a response to the poster who said 'what play would a teenager do anyway' - so it was a general point.
