We've just spend a lot getting our kitchen done.
I was advised gloss would be easier to keep clean, and we had matte (well painted wood) cabinets before so decided gloss no handles.
It's showing every bloody finger print! Yes it cleans very easy but every day there is are fingerprints.

Does it look ok? Honest opinions please 😞

Not my style but a huge improvement and very modern. That will certainly have increased your house value

How have you been opening them if not using the handles?

What makes you wonder if those things can be classed as handles? They are handles Confused

Handleless cupboards are opened by pushing to release magnets I believe.

I love your kitchen, OP, but I would also be neurotic about fingerprints. As others have said though, it's definitely something you'll notice more than others so you'll just have to make a deal with yourself to only clean them once a day or every other day.

This is my new kitchen while it was still being fitted. The units have no handles, just indentations to pull the drawers and doors out. I have no issues with visible fingerprints but I do have to wipe/dust the indents every week or so with a dry cloth to keep them dust free. I love it!

It will be totally finished next week after the decorator has done his magic!

This is a stunning kitchen.

I basically have this but in a really really dark colour and matte and let me tell you , gloss is a DREAM to clean compared to the matte!

( also, OP - they are handles !)

Jumpingpogosticks · 09/01/2024 09:39

I prefer your new kitchen, you'll become blind to the fingerprints quickly!
Just mind heat under the cupboards- things like steam from the kettle or heat from the toaster will risk the cupboards peeling.

Mine might be a lesser quality, but still if it saves you a headache I thought I'd give a heads up.

Flatulence · 09/01/2024 09:47

Looks great. It's not my style but if I bought a home with that kitchen in situ I'd be very pleased.
I know what you mean about high gloss units though. I had one in a previous home (was there when I moved in) and the finger prints did my head in. I don't think anyone else really notices or cares and I'd not give a damn if I went to someone else's home and saw finger prints on their otherwise immaculate kitchen.

They are not handleless cupboards though

We've had gloss in the past and now have matt and both show marks easily. The difference we've found is that matt are easier to clean with no smearing.

Baconking · 09/01/2024 09:53

I have matt and don't find them a problem for fingerprints at all unlike pp so I think it's just preference more than anything.

We avoided gloss and black worktops as my mumsnet research a few years back told me that these were the worst for showing up dirt.

You'll get used to it

I don't understand why the undercupboard is lit up like the aisle of a plane.

Sorry, it looks like something you would see in a veterinary practice with all that white gloss!

But you could buy some handles

Before you go cleaning off those fingerprints, check with manufacturer/installer/company you sourced from what is the best cleaning product to use. I used the wrong stuff (washing up liquid I think) and my kitchen has suffered.

OP would have to remove the existing handles to apply these Confused

I thought it looked cream / beige rather than white but I can now see it could be white and it is just the photo. Those handles are awful and in any case unnecessary because every single cupboard already has a handle!

Have you really never seen that before? Sub rock dweller 🪨 ? Or are you being facetious? It provides low level atmospheric lighting so you don’t need overhead lights blaring but can still see to make a cup of tea etc. I don’t like operating theatre style harsh lighting unless doing something very involved so I would use this a lot. We have similar but above cabinet rather than floor level.

MaggieFS · 09/01/2024 10:20

It's a lovely kitchen OP. You'll either get used to the marks or easily wipe them off. Much easier to do on gloss than matt.

It might not be to everyone's taste, but there's no need for some people to be quite so unpleasant.

I'm still baffled though as to what you thought the horizontal metal parts are, if not handles, or indeed how you've been opening the doors!

Been a long time since you visited a kitchen showroom, hasn’t it? It’s subtle lighting for when you don’t want the big light searing your retinas.

I have never visited a kitchen showroom. I use a lamp with a low-watt bulb for subtle lighting. Thanks for the information.

Obviously a very sensitive topic.

KimberleyClark · 09/01/2024 10:26

We have our subtle lighting underneath the wall units so they light the worktops.

We’ve got both. No oneupmanship points were spared in our kitchen! 😂

suki1964 · 09/01/2024 10:29

When I went got high gloss in cream cabinets and a black granite counter and splash back 10 years ago, the comments at the time were, those who go for gloss obviously dont cook.

Well I cook for a family from scratch every day. Have a cat and a dog, 3 grandkids and I find the kitchen easy to keep clean, shiny and finger print free, much much easier then the oak I ripped out.

I also have clutter at the sink, washing liquid, soap, dish cloths

I like it because I DO see spills and drips when they happen. Kids opening exploding pop - I see the fall out, drips when mum takes her tea bag out - I see it.I see fly poo. Whilst Im cooking I just go over the doors and handles with a microfibre and every other week I go over the whole kitchen top to bottom with glass cleaner. I was oblivious to how grubby a kitchen got until I went for gloss

Latewinter · 09/01/2024 10:31

The colours are not for me, I don't like the look but it looks very well done. I had gloss in a couple of rentals and while I would never have chosen it, it DID show the dirt but was so so easy to quickly see a mark and wipe off with a damp cloth so I wouldn't regret it for cleaning reasons.
