We've just spend a lot getting our kitchen done.
I was advised gloss would be easier to keep clean, and we had matte (well painted wood) cabinets before so decided gloss no handles.
It's showing every bloody finger print! Yes it cleans very easy but every day there is are fingerprints.

Does it look ok? Honest opinions please 😞

It’s beautiful. I love that you kept the big floor space. The fingerprints only drive you nuts now because you’re determined to keep it pristine and new! (I would be the same!) it’s a really nice kitchen and I’m slightly jealous lol!

Calamitousness · 09/01/2024 05:15

I think gloss cabinets are the problem. I hate them too. I’m definitely going matte next time. I like your handles though and I’d probably take the cabinets to full ceiling height with no space. Otherwise there’s not a lot you could do differently with that space but understand it’s only a small snapshot of a bit of it. I find window cleaner the best to clean gloss streak free. Or white vinegar based spray cleaner. Enjoy your new kitchen.

TommyNever · 09/01/2024 05:27

It looks OK. But for my taste, a bit too clinical, like the corner of a lab or surgery.

mumedu · 09/01/2024 05:27

It's very nice!

Devilshands · 09/01/2024 05:42

You say you paid a lot, OP? It looks a bit like the Wren basic range (the same style I had in my house which cost £12K and had a few more units). I’d expect more for my money if I paid a lot of money (as you said you did)…

Definitely has handles too!

ActDottie · 09/01/2024 05:45

I really don’t like it but it’s just not my style at all. I don’t like the bars on the doors as they look like the kinda doors that shouldn’t have handles. Personally I’d have got wood, we have wood and it’s not that hard to clean. That said I think our styles are just very different.

I agree £12k is not a lot for a kitchen but it’s a lot out of most people’s wallets.

Kitchen is not to my taste and not sure why you needed to add the photo, as you can’t see the extent of the fingerprints, but it appeals to my nosey nature.
I guess what you have been doing by using the handles to open but then pushing door to close is natural so something to train yourselves out of? The handles look like they are difficult to grip, though.
Toddlers love putting the sticky prints over everything- cupboard doors, windows, walls. That time will soon pass just have to grin and bear it or hope they get bored!

tenterden · 09/01/2024 06:36

I prefer the “before” kitchen 😂

TheCurtainQueen · 09/01/2024 06:44

If you think the fingerprints are bad on gloss you should count yourself lucky you didn’t get mat. Mat finish is far worse for fingerprints.

I have a white gloss kitchen and it doesn’t show any fingerprints. It’s also handleless (unlike yours which has handles).

WonderingWanda · 09/01/2024 06:45

I can't believe people are now debating what 'paying a lot' means. 12k is a still a huge amount of money even if it's only a fraction of what a high end hand built and painted kitchen costs.

I think it looks lovely op. I have gloss and I agree they show up way more marks, all cupboards need a wipe down due to spillages and dust etc but gloss also shows up fingerprints too. I use white vinegar and kitchen roll to keep them under control.

Musntapplecrumble · 09/01/2024 07:05

I have very similar but shorter handles, just use them, less prints!
O and agree about the glass cloth, plus it looks great!

Secnarf · 09/01/2024 07:21

Are you just more aware of the fingerprints because it is new?

We’ve just had our bathrooms done, and I have been noticing the droplets of water on the taps after my daughter brushes her teeth, and felt a compulsion to have to clean them off there and then.

Normally, I would just wait until after I had brushed my own teeth 10 minutes later and then wiped everything down, as would be sensible.

Scirocco · 09/01/2024 07:32

The most important opinions are yours and your family's, @sugarfuzzy . It looks lovely to me, and maybe some tips on removing or preventing fingerprints could help you feel better? (I don't have gloss in my kitchen so no help here, I'm afraid, just a bit of kitchen envy!).

Jollyoldfruit · 09/01/2024 07:39

We’ve just had a new handleless kitchen in matte wood grain. It doesn’t show finger marks at all so I don’t understand your suppliers reasoning.
Your kitchen is lovely though op, just enjoy it.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 09/01/2024 07:50

It looks fine, OP. Clean lines and modern.

It's not my personal taste and, as I live in a hard water area I would always avoid black fittings, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with your kitchen.

You definitely do have handles though 😆

willWillSmithsmith · 09/01/2024 07:56

I would love your kitchen. I hate mine, it’s one of those dated horrible wood ones. I intended to replace it when buying the house but I’ve just not had the money. Now to find out £12k is cheap for a new kitchen I’ll never be able to replace it. It makes me feel miserable when I’m in it but your lovely shiny new kitchen would cheer me up, fingerprints and all. 🙂

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 09/01/2024 08:07

I would ignore the wide-eyed 'confusion' regarding what the OP might have spent.

12k would be a lot of money to spend on anything, including a kitchen, and it's classic MN pass-agg to pretend otherwise.

DappledThings · 09/01/2024 08:07

Not my taste at all but it looks very nice if you like that style.

The definition of a handle being confusing is hilarious.

Wingedharpy · 09/01/2024 00:14

Is your sink black?
Is your water hard?
Just asking...

PS. It's lovely.

I thought “That sink must show every mark”.

peakygold · 09/01/2024 08:37

The clutter around the sink is killing me.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 09/01/2024 08:40

Kitchen lovely. Handles fingerprints and all.

You need a splash back or tiles behind sink though 👍🏽

NewnamefirNewYear · 09/01/2024 08:40

We have a very similar kitchen (with handles) but all doors get marked over time by people touching them.

I use a damp microfibre cloth followed by a glass cloth.

Counterpoint: It's completely normal to have a washing up liquid bottle and some liquid soap/handcream, it doesn't make OP Mr fucking Trebus.

Butterflytown · 09/01/2024 08:48

We put a gloss handleless kitchen into our old house in 2017. It was a light cashmere colour and south facing and the fingerprint marks especially on a sunny day drove me mad. The best product I found was called unika gloss cleaner- use with a micro fibre cloth and buff well.

We recently replaced the kitchen in our new house and have gone for Matt with handles this time. I’m not a fan of gloss after the last experience. I think like everything kitchens can date quite quickly. When we were having ours fit last year the fitter said gloss is becoming less and less popular and current trends are strong colour units (we’ve gone for grey lol) and light rather than dark worktops. These things tend to go full circle though, although I think shaker style seems to have the most staying power.
