We've just spend a lot getting our kitchen done.
I was advised gloss would be easier to keep clean, and we had matte (well painted wood) cabinets before so decided gloss no handles.
It's showing every bloody finger print! Yes it cleans very easy but every day there is are fingerprints.

Does it look ok? Honest opinions please 😞

How are you opening them. If you are not using the handles?

Wingedharpy · 09/01/2024 00:40

@sugarfuzzy : My black sink, which is admittedly ancient, does have a tendency to show up a limescale white "bloom".
It is manageable with a bit of effort.
I oil it with food grade chopping board oil periodically (tends to coincide with visitors coming!) and it looks gorgeous for a few weeks but does need repeating to keep the black shiny look - depending on how fussy you are.

Justia · 09/01/2024 00:44

The bars at the bottom of the doors are handles.

Use them and you get no more fingerprints.

Finbrek · 09/01/2024 00:58

It is lovely.

Ime gloss is quick and straightforward to clean. Yes it shows up every fingerprint but getting rid of them takes as long as the kettle takes to boil.

Fionaville · 09/01/2024 01:06

I had the same kitchen in red in my old house. Same handles too. I got into the habit of giving them a wipe with the tea towel after I'd done the dishes. But I don't think the fingerprints are that noticeable, especially in your colour. You'll get used to it.
Conversely, I don't have a gloss kitchen now and have proper handles. The cupboard doors around the handles still get marked (obviously we all must touch the wood when we pull the handle) so I don't think proper handles would have made much difference.

The deatheater/witch is DH 😂😂 he always has to get himself in photos haha!
We stupidly went for no handles as we have a toddler so thought no handles would stop her getting into the cupboards.. which is fairness it has.. she's just decorating them with hand prints instead! 🤦🏼‍♀️

They have got handles though?

TherapistInATabard · 09/01/2024 01:07

Are they classed as handles? I just see handles as being the kind that are in the before photo

The before kitchen has knobs, your new kitchen has handles. I think.

JaneJeffer · 09/01/2024 01:48

Where was your sink before? Looks like a completely different layout.

Josette77 · 09/01/2024 02:37

Those are handles. I have the same so my cupboards don't get finger prints.

I love it! The only thing I would add is a backsplash to make it a bit less stark.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 09/01/2024 02:43

We have white gloss with no handles though you definitely have handles and I just wipe them down with glass cleaner when fingerprinting shows. I've never thought they were bad for fingerprints - though I guess that could just be my standards Grin also have a toddler so get more marks from him leaving a trail so I'm cleaning up after him regularly anyway...

Babyblackbear78 · 09/01/2024 02:47

you have handles. No handles would be where you push the cupboard door/drawer to open it. So use the handles lol

BayCityCoaster · 09/01/2024 02:51

This thread is hilarious!

Gloss is not to my taste.

The new kitchen looks fine. It just looks like a kitchen - cupboards and bench.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2024 02:52

Looks lovely. I've got Matt and it's just as bad for finger prints

Whatdafudge · 09/01/2024 02:55

PerfectYear321 · 09/01/2024 00:03

Me too, unless I'm hallucinating 😂

Lol!

demonheed · 09/01/2024 03:05

So many handles 😅 how are you opening the cupboards without using them?

Herbiebanannas · 09/01/2024 03:15

This thread just blew my mind.

I can’t handle it at this time of night, off to bed.

(rubs eyes, looks again at photo. Wanders to bed shaking head convinced I can see massive big handles in the picture)

PieAndLattes · 09/01/2024 03:17

Looks great and glad you got rid of the dementor.

LA9610 · 09/01/2024 03:35

I previously had a gloss kitchen in a similar colour to your new one and I hated it as also felt every fingerprint showed even though we had handles (also gloss - hated those too and no kids). We went for matte handle-less cupboards this time and I much prefer them, we have a kind of mid- grey and light petrol blue colour and even without handles the fingerprints are less visible/much less irritating to me who is a clean freak (note we have a crawling baby now too). You do actually have handles as other people have pointed out!

I think with dark coloured cabinets matte can be really bad for showing fingerprints, my SIL has very dark grey matte and 3 kids and even in photos I can see fingerprints everywhere and in person it looks pretty grubby despite being newer than my own kitchen but in lighter colour cabinets like yours (and mine) matte definitely excels over gloss when it comes to showing fingerprints. Sorry that’s probably not what you want to hear but in a couple of years hopefully your kids will be using the handles and be less inclined to be pawing the cupboard doors 😂

Pipsquiggle · 09/01/2024 04:22

I think finger prints happen matt or gloss; Handles / no handles with DC

I am glad you now realise you have handles.

Your kitchen is fine

Ihateslugs · 09/01/2024 04:28

This is my new kitchen while it was still being fitted. The units have no handles, just indentations to pull the drawers and doors out. I have no issues with visible fingerprints but I do have to wipe/dust the indents every week or so with a dry cloth to keep them dust free. I love it!

It will be totally finished next week after the decorator has done his magic!

RoseBucket · 09/01/2024 04:30

It looks fine, I’d have chosen a different work top and the floor lights are subjective (just giving my personal opinion as requested) but it’s not my kitchen, do you like it, sounds as though you’re not sure.

Ramalangadingdong · 09/01/2024 04:32

I liked it. You seem to have a lot more workspace now. It is modern but not too showy. Looks neat.

Porridgeislife · 09/01/2024 04:37

Absolutely gorgeous kitchen but gloss cabinetry, black stone worktops & a black sink is hard slog. You’re about to spend the next 10 years haunted by finger prints and water marks.

(I inherited a gloss kitchen)

merrymelodies · 09/01/2024 04:43

Beautiful. I love It and wouldn't mind wiping the fingerprints off. I wipe surfaces down every time I cook so...

merrymelodies · 09/01/2024 04:44

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 09/01/2024 00:04

You also appear to have a Deatheater in your kitchen.

🤣
