To ask opinions on my new kitchen..

We've just spend a lot getting our kitchen done.
I was advised gloss would be easier to keep clean, and we had matte (well painted wood) cabinets before so decided gloss no handles.
It's showing every bloody finger print! Yes it cleans very easy but every day there is are fingerprints.

Does it look ok? Honest opinions please 😞

I like it and don't really see the finger prints. Keep a microfibre cloth handy if you're that bothered (who's looking is what I'm getting at)

The clutter around the sink is killing me.

This is the attitude my parents have. Washing-up liquid and cloth is hidden in a cupboard. Annoys me every time I'm there and trying to help out washing up.

Ours live out by the sink because we use our kitchen, we don't consider it a showroom display.

There's no clutter there, just everyday stuff being used in an everyday way by normal people.

TippiHedrin · 09/01/2024 08:48

Counterpoint: It's completely normal to have a washing up liquid bottle and some liquid soap/handcream, it doesn't make OP Mr fucking Trebus.

Also agree, put when you’ve spent a lot on a new kitchen it’s nice for it to look ‘finished” and “uncluttered” even for just a little while surely?

currently the draining board is unusable as it’s covered in cloths.

sondot · 09/01/2024 08:57

How have you been opening them if not using the handles?

What makes you wonder if those things can be classed as handles? They are handles Confused

NoKateMoss · 09/01/2024 08:58

I think you need to tidy and dress the room more to see if you like it. You're not doing it justice.

Doggymummar · 09/01/2024 08:58

It doesn't have much personality but it does it's job

ManateeFair · 09/01/2024 08:59

As others have said, you do have handles.

I have gloss units which do not have handles at all and they honestly don’t really show fingerprints much at all, but I think gloss units vary a lot in how much fingerprints show; I don’t know why! I also think lighting makes a difference, because the only time fingerprints ever seem to be visible on mine is when it’s very sunny and you happen to be standing at a specific angle.

They are very easy to keep clean. If you do see fingerprints they will come off with a dry cloth!

I think your new kitchen looks very nice, anyway. 😊 I think with all kitchens it just takes some time to settle into using it.

You say you paid a lot, OP? It looks a bit like the Wren basic range (the same style I had in my house which cost £12K and had a few more units). I’d expect more for my money if I paid a lot of money (as you said you did)…

Definitely has handles too!

Edited

We can see exactly what you are up to you know. Bitchy.

KimberleyClark · 09/01/2024 09:05

Gloss units are not to my taste but tbh I think strong coloured units will start to look dated just as quickly. We have oak units (bardolino) and white worktops and keep the colour for the walls. I do regret having a white sink though it is a struggle to keep clean.

Not really.

She asked for opinions and I said it looked cheap (for a fully fitted new kitchen with new floors). Knowing how much it cost in terms of ‘cost a lot’ is useful to give more opinions.

Also I said I had a similar kitchen from Wren… can I be bitchy about my own budget?

Allshallbewell2021 · 09/01/2024 09:11

The death eater comment 😆😆😆

youngestisapsycho · 09/01/2024 09:11

I had a white gloss kitchen in previous house, it never showed fingerprints. My cousin has just had a handleless Matt fitted and the finger prints are everywhere!

Oblomov23 · 09/01/2024 09:11

I like it. I like gloss. We have white gloss, no handles, similar to @Ihateslugs.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 09/01/2024 08:07

I would ignore the wide-eyed 'confusion' regarding what the OP might have spent.

12k would be a lot of money to spend on anything, including a kitchen, and it's classic MN pass-agg to pretend otherwise.

Yes I couldn’t believe the unnecessary rudeness and filter problems on this thread. Some people are so unpleasant : they have only to open their mouth and their mind hangs out like a filthy washing-up cloth. It looks a lovely new kitchen OP, very fresh and I like the lighting. I can’t see any smudges in the photos but can imagine it might generate them. Can you play around with the lighting to reduce this? Also toddlers grow and get less sticky!

MillarMountVandal · 09/01/2024 09:12

I have gloss with chrome handles, and i'm constantly cleaning off finger prints. I'll never have another gloss kitchen...

That said, your new kitchen looks lovely.

NeverStopTwinkling · 09/01/2024 09:14

Think some folk are bored and looking for some blood sport this morning!

OP I think it's lovely, doesn't look cheap, looks like a normal, nice clean, modern kitchen.

We have white gloss and although they get filthy that tends to be spills etc rather than fingerprints. It's possible I just filter it out though as I have 3 young children and I'm not particularly fussed by having a spotless-at-all-times kitchen.

I agree. Kitchens are meant to be used.

Dibilnik · 09/01/2024 09:19

It's absolutely gorgeous OP!! 🤩🎉

I hope you managed to get rid of that big dark evil spirit haunting the first one.

Beseen22 · 09/01/2024 09:21

Every house I have owned has had a gloss kitchen I've inherited and I have 2 young grubby sons which means I've spent the last 12 years scrubbing cabinet fronts at least once a week because they show every single mark.

It's not a style I would necessarily choose because of the upkeep but once the kitchen is tidied and clean it is gleaming and looks lovely.

HideousKinky · 09/01/2024 09:22

I am envious as we currently have NO kitchen at all as we are in the middle of a renovation of 3 rooms which includes having a new kitchen - can't wait until mine reaches this stage!

I thought it was OP trying to go unnoticed/ unidentified in her invisibility cloak when sneaking a biscuit. I’d like one of those.

Daisies12 · 09/01/2024 09:26

But you have handles? The long silver things? We have a genuinely handle-less white gloss kitchen and it looks fine. Use a dry microfibre cloth to clean them.

Daisies12 · 09/01/2024 09:26

I hope you don't have hard water like we do, as that sink would look awful with limescale marks

BIossomtoes · 09/01/2024 09:26

I think strong coloured units will start to look dated just as quickly.

I really don’t care. I’ve wanted a navy kitchen for as long as I can remember and can’t imagine a time when the one fitted last year will fail to give me pleasure. I smile every time I walk into it.

You also appear to have a Deatheater in your kitchen.

That's what I first thought!
