5 year old said something triggering this evening

He’s currently obsessed with killing and death in general.

He said “Mummy, I wish I would die” then laughed it off. I was so triggered I felt like I was going to burst into tears there and then. I felt really shaken up too.
I almost shouted at him “Don’t say that!” He just laughed and continued playing.

I’m also a believer in manifestation and speaking things into existence, which is why I’m now in a panic.

OP posts:

I demand you manifest me a bugatti chiron, a castle in southern Italy and a pet panda. i also want to be able to transform into a dragon at will. Once those things have been manifested (is that a word?), we can discuss the seriousness of what your little one said.

Well stop it then before this sort of nonsense starts affecting your DC.

MuggleMe · 07/01/2024 19:44

Despite others shrugging it off, it's still worth a conversation with him saying that saying that about someone can be upsetting and unkind and not to do it again.

ThreeAcross · 07/01/2024 19:44

Duh · 07/01/2024 19:41

I suggest you manifest yourself to be less bonkers OP

Wise words. This seems like a good use of your gift.

Glitterybee · 07/01/2024 19:44

Come on OP, even those who fully believe in law of attraction and manifestation know that you don’t say something once and then it happens.

it sounds like you have anxiety.

I don’t think your DS is the issue here. Honestly 5 year olds say the daftest things

Jacopo · 07/01/2024 19:44

If this is real you are unfit to be caring for a five year old.
Learn to be an adult.

Deathbyathousandcats · 07/01/2024 19:46

I suspect that OP is a plopper

Uricon2 · 07/01/2024 19:46

Manifestation is a load of nonsense and little kids who are finding out about the world can say morbid things. My little brother insisted as a child that he'd be dead before 30. Nearly 60 and very much here.

Teenangels · 07/01/2024 19:47

OP this is a common age for talk of death, try not to worry too much.

If manifestation happened, I would be a size 6-8, 5foot 10 tall, living on a yatch with a billion in the bank, married to Tom Hardy, with Ryan Reynolds as my affair partner.

But alas, I have to go to work tomorrow and my wonderful husband has to also go to work tomorrow.

DerekFaker · 07/01/2024 19:47

If manifestation was real, we'd all be drop-dead gorgeous millionaires, wouldn't we? And the world wouldn't be going to shit.

Shithole101 · 07/01/2024 19:48

Oh gosh op you would not cope in my house . My ds talks about death /dying and killing alot. He gos into full detail about how he's goung to the gun shop. Describes how he's going to get there . Then he's going to kill me in my sleep . He's told everyone in the house how old we will all be when we die .

RaininSummer · 07/01/2024 19:48

Manifestation is ridiculous and your five year old is thinking things most 5 ish year olds do at that age as they become aware. He didn't mean it as you think.

Andthereyougo · 07/01/2024 19:48

It’s a phase they go through. Lots of kids don’t but when they do…… drove me mad. It’s not a thing either of my children ever said or older grandchild ( now 20s) but the younger ones… it went on for some time.
And has come to nothing and ( thankfully) they’ve grown out of it.

Yeah, but that is really concerning though

Hobnobswantshernameback · 07/01/2024 19:50

I just manifested myself a slab of sticky toffee pudding
well DH just plonked it in front of me so same difference 🤤

Vettrianofan · 07/01/2024 19:50

I got asked when will I die by the 8yo the other day. I said I hoped to be around for a wee while longer 🤣

Illbebythesea · 07/01/2024 19:50

‘I was so triggered, by my five year old. So triggering, ugh the trauma. Trigger triggery trigger. Probably need therapy for the trigger & my belief of manifestation. How triggering.’

Honestly how do you people get through life.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 07/01/2024 19:52

Why are everyone’s children speaking about dying 😂 is this usual? I don’t remember my older ones doing this or my 5 year old, my pre teen has always hated his birthday because he doesn’t want to be ‘old’ but never been fixated about death.

Caththegreat · 07/01/2024 19:53

Triggering my....a... e

EdinGirl · 07/01/2024 19:53

I was actually suicidal at 6, but that was due to abuse and other factors.

If there's nothing like that going on I would think it a normal ish statement for his age and I wouldn't worry.

Giving him a reaction is just going to make the topic more exciting and interesting to him.

I would say "if you're dead you won't be able to eat ice cream/ play with xyz though" in a very bored tone of voice.

It's really not.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 07/01/2024 19:55

@Shithole101

Ermmmm what? I take it he’s a gamer? This is quite concerning still.

ManateeFair · 07/01/2024 19:55

You are very much the problem if you believe in such utter nonsense. Do you really want your poor kid to be scared of saying things, creating stories or voicing his fears, because his mother thinks he can make bad things happen just by saying words?

Your ‘belief in manifestation’ is basically just OCD and you need to deal with it rather than telling yourself it’s a legitimate belief, because it isn’t.

littleblackcat27 · 07/01/2024 19:55

Throwawayme · 07/01/2024 19:14

Don't be daft. He's only 5 and doesn't know what he's said and also no, you can't make things happen just by saying them. __

Yes - this

Illbebythesea · 07/01/2024 19:55

I felt really shaken up too. 😂😂

I almost shouted at him “Don’t say that!” He just laughed and continued playing.

Oh god don’t do that. Then he’ll be triggered too.
