5 year old said something triggering this evening

He’s currently obsessed with killing and death in general.

He said “Mummy, I wish I would die” then laughed it off. I was so triggered I felt like I was going to burst into tears there and then. I felt really shaken up too.
I almost shouted at him “Don’t say that!” He just laughed and continued playing.

I’m also a believer in manifestation and speaking things into existence, which is why I’m now in a panic.

I took my son on a walk once that he didn't want to go on, all the way round he told me all the ways he was going to kill me. Stones, sticks, knives.
I then bought him chips in a cafe in the cliffs and he said it was the best walk he'd ever been on!

I'm glad your alive to share this. It's a good job you bought them chips 😅. Ds is simlar but he says he loves me 20+ tines aday bless him

Snowdogsmitten · 07/01/2024 20:10

He’s just a weird little kid, currently fascinated with a concept he really doesn’t understand. But all kids are weird, so don’t worry about it.

Also, don’t worry about this, because it’s nonsense:

I’m also a believer in manifestation and speaking things into existence, which is why I’m now in a panic.

You sound as if you are having some disordered thoughts. When you say you are triggered, what by? Have you witnessed a traumatic death? Obviously a five year old being a five year old is nothing to worry about, but your mental health is worth taking seriously.

That said, 'manifestation' is not a thing, it is pyschic babble used by charlatans to prey on the vulnerable. If you are having intrusive thoughts, that is very frightening and I can see why the idea of something like manifestion might be a comfort as well as a worry. I can assure you, however, that it is bollocks.

He's a grumpy teenager now who just grunt's at me.

Clarabell77 · 07/01/2024 20:11

My son plays dead sometimes and we have to pretend to cry.

My daughter and nieces were chalking gravestones on the path outside when they were about 6 / 7. Those who were laid to rest on that sad day are all fine 12 years on.

Kids can be quite morbid. It’s normal. I hope.

OP, look into 'children's past lives'.
My granddaughter, then around two years, remembered two of her deaths and a reincarnation in which I was a man.

Tell 😭 us 😭 more 😭

user1492757084 · 07/01/2024 20:13

Don't fear him using the word die. Death is not understood, until someone or some pet they know dies.

At three, my child said he could run onto the road.
(I'd asked him to hold my hand.) He said that nothing bad will happen to him and that if a car killed him he would just come floating back down on a cloud.
Death is an abstract concept. Sometimes cartoons give kids a false sense of mortality too.

No she didn’t.

@Shithole101 I think our son's have been separated at birth

🤣 ds told me I'm gonna die at 23 . I'm mid 40s though. I'm.not gonna tell him

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/01/2024 20:13

I have just remembered when DD cheerfully told me when I die she’ll marry daddy. But that’s probably because she’s very into weddings…? 😂

And if manifestation was true I'd be rich, slim and married to Thor.

Snap! Especially Thor…

soupandcrackers · 07/01/2024 20:14

Yesterday my 4yo lay back in her chair, closed her eyes and said to me, "Mama, look! I'm dead."

It happens a lot.

Mama? Is she a pre-Raphaelite

Well, the good news is that this is absolute bollocks, so don’t worry. Try not to be ‘triggered’ by your 5yo being a 5yo.

Maybe have a look at building resilience too.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/01/2024 20:15

No, we're going for a more Edwardian upbringing.

Vistada · 07/01/2024 20:17

You can't wish yourself dead.

Otherwise I'd have died every time I had a hangover.

Fabulous - I'm jealous - we went for more a dragged up feral barely human approach - which was a huge mistake!

Spomsored · 07/01/2024 20:19

Well we're all going to die one day........

Pancakepipsqueak · 07/01/2024 20:19

Can we bin using “triggered” unless you’ve actually got some sort of disorder? (E.g. PTSD etc)
and can we also remember that our triggers are our own responsibility, no one else’s, especially not that of a 5-year-old?!
speaking as someone with PTSD, with a dead son.
p.s. manifestation is bullshit and I recommend derren brown’s book “Happiness“.

ChaToilLeam · 07/01/2024 20:19

Children come out with daft things. That’s normal, they’re children.

You, on the other hand, have come out with something utterly daft that’s going to cause you no end of pain unless you address it. Do you suffer from intrusive thoughts, OP?

Falkenburg · 07/01/2024 20:19

Bang bang your dead! Kids play cops and robbers and say all kinds of things as they have no real concept of death!

DS went through a phase of calling me mama - still does occasionally if he wants something.

I’m not sure if I’m more alarmed by the OP or by this…..

Are they watching GTA? Or a video game that's 18+?

21 year old often says 'mummy - you know you love me...'? but this is usually followed by a request for food, cash, a lift or all three

Nelly91 · 07/01/2024 20:24

OP I think around 5 kids start to think about life and death. My five year old says some very strange things about heaven and death! Honestly it’s their curious brain at their age. Think nothing of it. Also all the things their friends talk about at school. Ignore! Xx
