She won't let me in her house

I have a friend I met through work. We've been friends 5 years. She doesn't let any friends in her house. We've been on nights out and to meals together but she won't let anyone in her house. I dropped her home the other day and I was desperate for the toilet and she wouldn't let me in to use it. Has anyone else had this before?

Does she have children living with her? I'd actually consider reporting to SS if she does. She's obviously hiding something.

What a rude, unkind bitch. It's one thing not "hosting" but to tell a friend they couldn't use the loo is appalling. I wouldn't be rushing to continue the friendship.

Whoa. You have zero idea of this woman’s circumstances. Some empathy wouldn’t go amiss.

Ok wow, that's a pretty hot headed reaction. Would you not consider there might be a genuine reason for her not wanting you in there? If she has a mental health issue would you just drop her?

Not sure if you’re sarcastic or just extra.

Jesus. I was going to ask if she has children because she might not have wanted them to be woken up. But sure, get the social services involved because she won't let you use her loo

My friend admitted the other day that she was too embarrassed by the condition of her home, especially in comparison to mine, to feel comfortable inviting me in. I was slightly taken aback I thought she would have realised that Im the sort of person who couldn’t care less what people’s houses look like inside.

NYName · 02/01/2024 22:41

I have a relative like this, wouldn't let her own sister in to use the toilet when she picked her up for a family event.
It's due to MH issues and she has a thing about cleanliness so we thinks it's a fear of "germs" in the house.

TomatoSandwiches · 02/01/2024 22:41

Perhaps she only has the family cloth in her bathroom and I suppose you aren't family.

Winnipeggy · 02/01/2024 22:42

Just a thought - maybe her toilet was in a state, maybe she had no toilet paper, no clean towels, or no soap. Maybe she had something on view in her house at that moment she didn't want you to see. Sounds like she may have a little anxiety. I think either way if you like this person then you can forget about it and move on.

Couchant · 02/01/2024 22:42

She’s a Mner being a Mner. Lots of them appear to regard the idea of anyone coming into their house unexpectedly, even for a minute, with horror and fury.

Why do you have an issue with her having boundaries?

If she was going to pee herself?!

KnowledgeableMomma · 02/01/2024 22:45

My brother's girlfriend won't let us in the house, even to use the bathroom. She told my 5-year-old (at the time, she's 15 now) who was desperate to "piss on the lawn". No hoarding involved..... she just hates us 🤷‍♀️. So yes, there are people who won't let you in their house.

RampantIvy · 02/01/2024 22:31

Everyone sticking up for the colleague - don't you think it is rather mean to not let a work colleague use the loo when they needed to?

Very!

I have let delivery drivers use my toilet 🤷🏼‍♀️

This. The place is either filthy or she thinks people bring it in. You should feel a bit sorry for her in either case.

Maybe she didnae hae bog roll?

Honestly, this might be the best post I have ever read on MN.

OP should plan better. However, OP would not be unreasonable to stop the lifts.

Was she like this before Covid?

No, I don't think this is mean. Perhaps odd but not mean.

Tonight1 · 02/01/2024 22:49

At the opposite end of the scale I had my relative's neighbour offer me the keys to her house, as I live 20 miles away. I haven't even been in there!!

Of course I said no but that did make me smile a bit.
