Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

There’s no right or wrong surely?

i don’t like sitting around in PJs all day so I don’t. Ds is happy too so he does.

missmollygreen · 02/01/2024 20:23

Personally I always feel rubbish If I stay in PJs all day. So a YABU from me

Raisinsandweetabix · 02/01/2024 20:24

Yuck. No.

Pammela2 · 02/01/2024 20:24

Staying in PJs for the whole day is relatively rare. I’m not against it per se but I do like us to get out and do something most days. We stayed in PJs all of Boxing Day and perhaps once a weekend every 3 months.

Melodysmum12 · 02/01/2024 20:24

I don’t think I’ve ever done this apart from when my son was newborn. I just feel a bit gross! Each to their own though! Also I don’t tend to spend a whole day in the house often even if it’s a 20 minute walk… I get cabin fever so wouldn’t do that in my pjs!

Stressfordays · 02/01/2024 20:25

We tend to get dressed, but it's rare we have a day where we don't go somewhere or someone isn't coming over. It might be midday by the time we are dressed though.

declutteringmymind · 02/01/2024 20:25

As long as the pyjamas are clean and not a few days old, why not?

Brandyginger · 02/01/2024 20:26

As a rule we always leave the house every day. So no, there would be no pyjamas all day unless someone was ill.

SparkleyMud · 02/01/2024 20:27

So if you are wearing clean PJ's are you changing from one set of PJ's to another?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 02/01/2024 20:27

Personally I can't sit around in PJ'S once I'm up and about (a) because It feels a bit institutionalised - I'm not ill - and (b) it's quite likely someone will come to the door which - SHOCKER - we always answer. I might just be in leggings and a hoody which I find just as comfy.

But each to their own 🤷‍♀️

Kalevala · 02/01/2024 20:28

I'd wear jogging bottoms if not intending to leave the house, not nightwear.

Doggymummar · 02/01/2024 20:28

I'm in PJ's unless leaving the house or having visitors

Marblessolveeverything · 02/01/2024 20:28

We do one on day on Xmas break. But no I don't think it is healthy to do it regularly. We would go out everyday, can't image not.

NuffSaidSam · 02/01/2024 20:28

I don't like to stay in the same thing from night to day, but I will get 'dressed' from PJ's into lounge wear (which are basically PJ's by a different name).

NotARealWookiie · 02/01/2024 20:29

Personally I get dressed everyday unless unwell

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:29

Interesting! No right or wrong, no, I’m just curious about what the general consensus is. We only ever really know what the norm is in our own houses, so it’s good to gain a wider perspective at times! I do change into clean pjs, usually after a shower. If I was going to do that, I’d probably get dressed. It’s more the insisting kids get dressed. Hmmm!!

Comedycook · 02/01/2024 20:30

It's not a good habit for kids to get into imo...we laze around in our pjs but always get dressed at some point

eatdrinkandbemerry · 02/01/2024 20:30

I always get dressed but the children don't

ShoePalaver · 02/01/2024 20:30

PJ's are for sleeping only. I always go out every day anyway.

My children sleep in their clothes in the holidays though, so kind of the same in reverse. They might keep the same outfit on for several days if it doesn't end up with food or mud on it.

VeronicaSawyer89 · 02/01/2024 20:31

YANBU. I haven't gotten dressed since I got home from DSD's on Friday, and neither have the kids. We have gotten showered and put fresh PJs on every day. Getting dressed tomorrow as I'm having DGD whilst DSD is in work. It'll be a shock to the system I tell you! 😂

Doggymummar · 02/01/2024 20:31

NuffSaidSam · 02/01/2024 20:28

Well yes, I don't think people stay in what they slept in do they? I shower and change into lounge wear ( thicker than PJ's) and shower and change into nightwear about 4pm when settling down for the evening

Bearbookagainandagain · 02/01/2024 20:32

I was raised in a family that gets dressed everyday, but when living on my own I would occasionally have PJ days if I wasn't going anywhere.
Now my husband introduced me to the concept of "lounge clothes" and it's the best compromise I think, we still get dressed but it's comfy.

Tontostitis · 02/01/2024 20:33

I've got lovely nightdresses with built in support and the cosiest dressing hown in the world I spend every possible moment in them. We get dressed to walk the dogs or go out and undressed once the day is done, usually about 5pm. My husband has embraced my lifestyle and is worse than me for pjs. It's only got worse since we retired 😀

CoodleMoodle · 02/01/2024 20:34

We get dressed every day, even when we're not feeling well. It's usually just comfy clothes when we're staying at home, nothing dressy at all. Joggers and a jumper in the cold weather, short and tshirt or a sundress in the summer.

When I had DD I was determined to get dressed every day as it helped me feel in control of at least one thing in my life. Even if it was 3pm, I got dressed. And by the time DS came along I had DD to take to preschool etc so I had to get dressed anyway.

Also, if we're dressed it's much easier to get them out of the house if we need to go - either for a genuine reason or if I just need to get them out for a bit!

Tontostitis · 02/01/2024 20:34

Our 'at home' outfits are definitely more like pjs than lounge wear but I like your style
