Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

This.

Also I think different people have different levels of need for rest. I need a lot of downtime and relaxation (not least because I am a busy single parent with no support). Other people thrive on being busy all the time.

I hate the idea that it is lazy to want a down day here and there. For some people it's more important to do this than not. If I don't have a down day I start to get MH issues, anxiety and so on.

I think this is very true and that there isn’t a right or wrong. Even within family and extended family I can see some people naturally relax by “ doing “ and others by having time to really contemplate without that distraction. A lot of very creative people seem to need the “quiet” downtime. For what is worth, my observation is that the “ busy bee” types tend to maintain a general level of achievement, whereas a lot of the quiet downtime types tend to hit greater heights when they have had their recharge. Awkward to say that when thinking of family, collegues and friends as the examples, but that’s being transparent about it as I see it. We are all different, with different strengths and ways of operating. The trick is to be emotionally intelligent enough to understand what makes you tick and respond accordingly.

@Calliopespa funny you should say that I work in a creative role and downtime is so important to me. I find the creative process in and of itself emotionally and somehow physically demanding. It wipes me out. so I do find I work better and achieve better when I am rested - it allows my brain the space to think creatively somehow.

Is it something you do regularly? I can’t imagine not going out the house unless really unwell.

It’s surely really unhealthy to stay indoors for a whole day?

Why on earth would it be unhealthy to stay indoors for one single day?

Scarydinosaurs · 03/01/2024 15:35

Because if you regularly stay indoors for the whole day, you will be sedentary and not moving enough.

It is not healthy to be sedentary, therefore it isn’t healthy to regularly stay indoors for an entire day.

Couldn't agree more. Which is why it's a shame some posters on this thread are choosing to sermonise that their way is the only 'correct' way.

Good heavens, no one's going to die from being sedentary for one day.

Pressed send too soon. Meant to add that it's perfectly possible to exercise in the house. You've only got to look back at lockdown and the Joe Wicks craze to see that.

I always got my kids dressed when they were primary age and younger. I liked to know we were ready to go out even if we didn't. I always get dressed as not keen on how being in PJs makes.me feel.

I think it’s gross to stay in nightwear all day, and I don’t believe these people saying they shower and put clean ones
on.
I also don’t understand why normal clothing has to be deemed ‘uncomfortable’; I’m currently wearing a pair of chinos, a camisole and a polo necked jumper. I’m very comfortable as my clothes fit and are in ( mostly) natural fabrics. I could go for coffee, to the shops or to put out the bins in these clothes. Just biy clothes that fit you!

Why don't you believe people are showering? I can assure you I shower daily and have lots of pairs of clean pjs.

Dressed even if it's into leggings and sweater but out of PJs

I regularly stay indoors for a whole day.

I'm also a dog walker and doing 22k steps a day when I'm at work. Hardly sedentary Grin
