Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

Is it something you do regularly? I can’t imagine not going out the house unless really unwell.

It’s surely really unhealthy to stay indoors for a whole day?

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:34

I do indeed wear the same pjs I have slept in! I love these threads a sit just shows how many different ways of living there are!! Mollie king on radio 1 was detailing her indoor clothes rule..she has separate clothes to change into once you have been outside!! Her co host was truly incredulous.

I feel like showering & then putting new PJs on just seems a bit odd! If we’re staying in the house I’ll just wear leggings & a hoodie (or similar) but if I’m not working or dressing up to go out it’s all I ever wear really!

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:35

I stay indoors all day sometimes, yes. I love my home and the kids do, too!

I might think differently if I had teens, but my 6&9yo have to be dressed for lunch. I always want to take them out even for 20 mins if possible or they become horrible creatures, so want to be able to get out quickly.

Savourycrepe · 02/01/2024 20:36

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t get dressed everyday - illness apart.

PJ's are for sleeping only. I always go out every day anyway.

My children sleep in their clothes in the holidays though, so kind of the same in reverse. They might keep the same outfit on for several days if it doesn't end up with food or mud on it.

They sleep in their clothes and don't change them for several days?!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/01/2024 20:38

I don't like it - I feel it creates an unnecessary mental barrier to going out. Also I do not believe that the average all-day-pyjama-wearer has washed and dressed in clean pyjamas as the OP claims her entire family has.

That’s not even vaguely the same in reverse. Do they not shower or bathe? Unless I’m misunderstanding, that’s absolutely gross.

Savourycrepe · 02/01/2024 20:39

The idea of wearing pyjamas all day gives me the serious ‘ick’.

Namechangedagain20 · 02/01/2024 20:39

I change into leggings/joggers in the morning and so does DH. I hate sitting round in jeans or ‘proper’ clothes. The kids sometimes stay in pyjamas, sometimes wear leggings etc but either way they usually end up in some fancy dress costume or get messy and need changing anyway (they’re 2,3 and 6).

I’ve done that ever since I left home but I was brought up in a house where everyone had to put on proper clothes every day (by 10am or my mum would start moaning at us). During Covid my parents both bought their first ‘loungewear’ type clothing and slippers and now they wear those in the house but I find it really strange to see.

Lots of people have indoor clothes

that probably overlaps into …pyjamas. Do you wear them outside?

I have indoor clothes. There’s no need for the grimness of public transport to be all over my sofa.

I agree.

OP says later they're in the same PJs they slept in, so I'm not sure how that fits with being clean and washed?

Savourycrepe · 02/01/2024 20:40

I think the OP may be a troll.

declutteringmymind · 02/01/2024 20:42

We bathe at night, so if I don't need to shower in the morning I won't get of my pyjamas until I need to. Also if I've got a day of grotty jobs planned, I stay in my pyjamas, get the jobs done and then jump in the shower. Most of my nightwear is loungewear type so can easily answer the door. I'm not bothered anyway.

declutteringmymind · 02/01/2024 20:42

This actually only happens about 5 days a year mind.

Bringonchristmas36 · 02/01/2024 20:43

No I find this grim. I would get up, shower and go for more relaxed clothes. The children would not be allowed to stay in PJs

FourChimneys · 02/01/2024 20:43

I can't imagine staying in pj's all day. I hardly ever even go downstairs in mine, just on Saturday mornings when I put the bedding in the washing machine before I have my shower.

I'm outside every day anyway, often well before 8 am. I would have to be seriously ill to not get dressed.

Curlewwoohoo · 02/01/2024 20:45

Blarg no. I can't stand pj's all day. The kids would if they could but are usually made to dress before lunch at the latest. I don't like staying in all day either unless ill. Not sure how it's possible to sleep that night if you've just been in pj's at home all day?! If I'm mainly at home I'll wear joggers though.

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:46

I’m not a troll!! It varies tbh. Sometimes I wear the same pjs I have slept in and sometimes I change-depends how grubby I feel. I just find it all fascinating in terms of how varied people and living arrangements are.

RunnyPaint · 02/01/2024 20:47

Although I love my home, I hate being stuck in all day, but understand that not everyone feels this way. I often wear "day pyjamas" (lounge wear?) after my morning shower, then get dressed properly before going out. This is especially true when the weather is as crap as it has been recently!

Nineteendays · 02/01/2024 20:48

I have a middle ground I think - lounge wear. Old sweat pants that are probably not what I’d wear out and about (unless to quickly nip to corner shop/walk dog) but just as comfy as pjs.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/01/2024 20:48

If I'm feeling lazy, I might not get showered and dressed until lunch time. Always make sure I do it at some point each day though. If I'm ill I tend to have a bath and will stick a fresh pair of pyjamas on after.

However, sleeping in the clothes you've had on all day seems disgusting to me. No idea why I think it ok to wear the same thing you've worn to bed all day but not ok to go to bed in the same things you've worn all day!

Zanatdy · 02/01/2024 20:48

As a child we always got dressed, my mum thinks it’s terrible to not get dressed, even when you’re sick etc. I personally do get dressed daily and always got my kids dressed but my teen daughter never gets dressed unless going out. She comes home from school and puts her PJ’s straight on. During covid she didn’t get dressed for months. I don’t think it’s great for mental health in all honesty, but that’s me. Other people may feel perfectly happy but just don’t want to get dressed if not going out

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:48

my arrangements probably are bleurgh to people on the more fastidiously clean end of the clean spectrum. I am definitely at the other end. Although I have to have a very kitchen and bathroom. Idk-life is so busy in term time that holidays are good for lounging around, part in winter with rubbish weather as at the moment.
