Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

actually I find day to day life so hectic a few days of wearing a dressing gown all day is pretty welcome here and there.

as i get older it's more about finding time for real relaxation than worrying about being perfect all the time. I'm too busy the rest of the time to worry.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/01/2024 20:49

I sleep naked and once showered put on PJs/loungewear. Hair in a scrunchie. Love a pj day (don't have time to do them often)
I have a friend who wears a full face of make up and has special silk pyjamas for a pj day.

Haggisfish3 · 02/01/2024 20:50

Haha-my kids would be agog if I wore full make up and silk pyjamas! 🤣

No thanks to pjs all day. I expect my dcs to get changed even if it's just into trackies.
If you're going to the effort to get up and wash, then changing clothes shouldn't be too much of a chore.

Gingerbee · 02/01/2024 20:51

No, we may laze in bed. Get up shower and put on some form of day clothing depending on plans. Today, it is my joggers and a hoodie as it was too miserable to go for a walk.
I have never seen the appeal to sit in my night clothes

Cherrysherbet · 02/01/2024 20:51

I’ve stayed in pjs all day today as I’m not well. I usually get dressed everyday, even if I’m not going out. I encourage the kids to do the same.

MyDogsPaws · 02/01/2024 20:52

I hate wearing pjs all day, I miss my bra once I’m up and about even just in the house plus Pjs just always feel a bit draughty and insubstantial and I’m never quite warm enough until I’m dressed. I have dogs so never have a day where I don’t get dressed anyway but joggers, soft bra top and cosy hoodie are a good middle ground for me, can wear outside if needed, warmer than pjs and nice and comfy for slobbing about.

Healthyhappymama · 02/01/2024 20:52

I don't think it matters what you wear in your home if you're not
going out as long as you feel comfortable. Personally I've never done this, I'd feel tired and miserable If I stayed in pjs. Even if I'm not going out, after my shower, I get dressed , and do hair and makeup, perfume etc

MyDogsPaws · 02/01/2024 20:54

Also don’t get me started on dressing gowns, how anyone can spend the day with one flapping around them i don’t know. I actually a have an aversion to them for some reason, just thinking about them makes me feel ill.

puncheur · 02/01/2024 20:55

YABU for the simple reason that I can’t conceive of a day where I or my family don’t leave the house at all. We would have to be very, very ill.

Out of interest, where do you stand on Oodies?

PJ's are for sleeping only. I always go out every day anyway.

My children sleep in their clothes in the holidays though, so kind of the same in reverse. They might keep the same outfit on for several days if it doesn't end up with food or mud on it.

This I would have a problem with as the bedding gets grubby. Growing up we were expected to dress before breakfast so it took me a while to discover the joys of not doing this, which was during lockdown when I realised I had a huge pile of laundry for a family who was going nowhere. We then sometimes would keep pj bottoms on with a jumper or sweatshirt on top and I dubbed them “ house trousers.” But would shower and change into a fresh pair before bed. But it did cut down on washing jeans etc for no reason whatsoever… and was much more comfortable.

Why would you change into a fresh set of PJs after showering if you could just as easily put some house clothes on? In our house everyone changes out of their sleepwear after breakfast, kid included. Mind you, I don't think we've ever had a day when we wouldn't leave the house at all. I think spending a day in PJs is... well...not giving the right message, IYSWIM.

StillWantingADog · 02/01/2024 21:02

Yabu.
Unless ill we all get dressed every day
I’m relaxed at weekends and holidays but everyone is always dressed for lunch

Aroundthewaygirl · 02/01/2024 21:02

I used to when I was a kid/teen, esp if i had no plans to leave the house. Once I went off to college, if I didn't leave the house I would change out of PJs and put on tshirt and sweats/shorts. I wfh FT now and do the same. My dd stays in her PJs all day if she's staying in which is maybe only once or twice a month.

I can't wear regular clothes like jeans or work clothes when i'm home. My whole family except my dad would come home from work/school and change into something else more comfy. but i don't like the heaviness/texture/restrictiveness of most clothing worn to work or to go outside.

Namechangenamechange321 · 02/01/2024 21:04

We do this about once a year. Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The children in their pjs that is. I always get dressed

Calliopespa · 02/01/2024 21:04

Nineteendays · 02/01/2024 20:56

Out of interest, where do you stand on Oodies?

There was a thread suggesting OP wear an oodie for Christmas at her ILs because their house was cold. The thread had brought out some catty, twisted posts so I kept quiet on the oodie suggestion BUT privately thought if I ever had to sit at Christmas dinner with someone clad in an oodie I would feel completely depressed.

MyDogsPaws · 02/01/2024 21:04

@Nineteendays oodies are okay, and onesies are also fine. It’s just the flappyness of dressing gowns it makes me feel weird 🤷‍♀️

TedMullins · 02/01/2024 21:05

Savourycrepe · 02/01/2024 20:40

I think the OP may be a troll.

A troll because she lounges around the house in the same PJs she slept in? That’s a perfectly normal thing to do in my world…

Pjs bottoms are much easier to wash and less restrictive if in the house all day.

Createausername1970 · 02/01/2024 21:07

I often stay in my PJs all day. But I don't wear the bottoms in bed, too hot, so in the morning I will put on a fresh pair of pants, then the PJ bottoms (not slept in) but the PJ top will be the one I slept in. But they are called "lounge wear" and PJ bottoms look like leggings and the top is a mini-dress style, so I can happily answer the door and appear to be dressed.

As a child, DS spent most of his time in his pants. He hated clothes. As soon as he got in from school, off came the uniform. He would do the same now if he could, but compromises with PJ bottoms when he is downstairs.

Biscuithelp · 02/01/2024 21:08

I always shower and get dressed. I make the DC get dressed and teeth brushed by about 10.30 usually. We do always go out though or people pop round, I’d be embarrassed to be in pjs at 3pm in that case

tbe children above sleeping in clothes and not changing for days on end - that makes me sad. Not exactly a comfy cosy bed with nice pyjamas and a blanket is it

GettingStuffed · 02/01/2024 21:08

My new years Resolution is to get dressed every day

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 02/01/2024 21:09

I shower and dress everyday, who sit in pyjamas all day? Ick
