Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

YABU for the simple reason that I can’t conceive of a day where I or my family don’t leave the house at all. We would have to be very, very ill.

What about during the pandemic?

TedMullins · 02/01/2024 21:05

A troll because she lounges around the house in the same PJs she slept in? That’s a perfectly normal thing to do in my world…

Agree. A bit if a lame thing to troll about imo

Pjs bottoms are much easier to wash and less restrictive if in the house all day.

My washing machine does the washing. I am not sure it notices the difference to be fair. I find a pair of loose trousers, jogging bottoms or leggings aren't very restrictive (and what sort of activities people would do in PJs that necessitate freedom of movement?). To each their own, though, but wearing sleepwear during the day isn't for us.

autienotnaughty · 02/01/2024 21:13

We get dressed but joggers and t shirt are just as comfy

Sunnydays0101 · 02/01/2024 21:14

Surely, except for the very occasional day, yourself and your children go outside for at least 5 minutes for some fresh air and exercise ?

Stopmotion24 · 02/01/2024 21:14

I always get dressed even if comfy clothes and insist children do as part of their morning routine which also includes having breakfast, clearing up after breakfast, making bed, putting PJs away and brushing teeth before they are allowed to do other things. If we are not going out on weekends or holidays they can play with conventional toys/games (not videogames) or watch a bit of TV before doing all those things but even if not going out they must be changed knto day clothes by mid morning and certainly before lunch or mid morning snack! If unwell then staying in PJs is ok 😉

BeautifulAndBrave · 02/01/2024 21:14

I don't know where this thing of not getting dressed and staying indoors all day has come from.
You might as well be in a hospital.
Standards have really slipped and so unhealthy mentally and physically.
It's just a lazy excuse saying l can't be bothered.

MumblesParty · 02/01/2024 21:15

It’s skanky to sleep in a pair of pyjamas, get up, shower, and put the same pyjamas back on again. Why would you do that?

I have no problem with showering and putting joggers on, and scruffy clothes that I wouldn’t wear to go out. But I’d never put on the pyjamas I’d slept in.

Laurama91 · 02/01/2024 21:16

My dad used to ask me not to get dressed in school holidays so he didn't have loads of washing to do 😂

Starseeking · 02/01/2024 21:16

Both me and my DC shower every morning and get dressed before breakfast into our day clothes, irrespective of what we plan to do that day.

I couldn't imagine spending a whole day in pyjamas, as it would mean I hadn't showered that day, and I don't feel fresh unless I have.

I'd be interested what people who wear pyjamas all day do when receiving an unexpected knock on the front door...do you rush to put on day clothes first, happy to open up in pyjamas at any time of day, or just not answer the door (in true MN style)?

It’s more that jeans/ trousers tend to be heavier so bulk out the wash requiring more loads. But anyway, it’s a bit academic as apart from during the lockdown there are not many days when you could stay in anyway.

LolaSmiles · 02/01/2024 21:17

We don't always get dressed up smart ready to go out, but are washed and clean and dressed for the day. I like having predictable standards so DC know that up, dressed and ready is a simple expectation for everyone unless poorly.

I can't think why I'd want to shower and put pyjamas back on for the day when there's equally comfortable non-sleepwear.Surely if your non-sleepwear is so uncomfortable that you'd rather wear pyjamas all day, you need to get clothes you're comfortable in?

WolfFoxHare · 02/01/2024 21:17

ShoePalaver · 02/01/2024 20:30

PJ's are for sleeping only. I always go out every day anyway.

My children sleep in their clothes in the holidays though, so kind of the same in reverse. They might keep the same outfit on for several days if it doesn't end up with food or mud on it.

That’s a bit neglectful. Even if my DS has a very rare PJ day, he has a bath and clean PJs that night! And day clothes aren’t very comfortable to sleep in. I really think you need to stop them doing this, it’s not good parenting at all.

Does she not bath or shower?

Broodywuz · 02/01/2024 21:18

No for me, I like to get showered and dressed every morning, whether I'm going anywhere or not.

terny · 02/01/2024 21:18

@BeautifulAndBrave as a single parent who walks 5+ miles minimum per day, every day of school for school runs, plus exercise, plus Saturday clubs and supermarket runs (no car), usually with child in tow, and does pretty much everything alone including housework, we are car-less etc so the odd day off is sometimes necessary. It doesn't always equate to laziness I assure you.

Breaks are as important as the opposite.

Trixibella · 02/01/2024 21:18

I don’t own pyjamas as I sleep naked but I let the dogs out in my dressing gown, otherwise I have a cashmere tracksuit for after an evening bath or if I’m ill and out of bed.

I think pyjamas are loungewear really - I can’t sleep in them anyway as they feel like sleeping in clothes so seems fair enough that people wear them like loungewear. Not washing something next to the skin all night, then wearing all day seems less fun though.

BotterMon · 02/01/2024 21:18

Sorry but I think it's a bit scummy and not positive role modelling for kids. Also sad that kids are inside all day.

If you're getting up and showering surely you just get dressed?

I just answer the door in pyjamas. Have been known to go to the shop and walk the dog in them too

Floooooof · 02/01/2024 21:20

There is a half way point - Leggings and a big top are as comfy as pj's but acceptable to wear to tescos

pinkspeakers · 02/01/2024 21:20

Personal preference, but my DH and I would never ever spend a day in pyjamas. My kids might when they are at home, but they are young adults and that is up to them. When they were younger I would always have asked them to get dressed.

We always shower and get dressed before breakfast. I'd feel odd doing anything else. To be honest, it is extremely rare that I would have a day without leaving the house or having people round. If I did, it would almost certainly be a day when was working at home, which I would never do in PJs. I have other clothes that are also comfortable but properly dressed, so don't know why I would put my pyjamas on after showering?

Not sure DH even owns PJs!

@ShoePalaver i assume this is a joke. If not then you are a negligent parent.

Differentstarts · 02/01/2024 21:22

I don't always get dressed if I'm not going anywhere but I have depression so might be that. Don't know if its normal otherwise

Evenmoretired44 · 02/01/2024 21:22

Always get dressed unless very ill. For at home wear yoga trousers or leggings and a t shirt or hoodie. Both DS and I almost always leave the house at least once a day to exercise and get fresh air.

pinkspeakers · 02/01/2024 21:25

How often would you actually have a day when you don't leave the house?
