Insisting on getting dressed every day in school holidays

Hello
I am curious about what the consensus is on this. I am happy to sit in pjs all day if im
not going anywhere and so am happy for dc to also do this. But I’m aware my ex and his family get dressed every single day without fail, regardless of whether they are going out or not. We are always clean and showered etc. just not dressed for the outside world.

so yabu-people should get dressed every day, regardless of activity
Or yanbu -you agree with me and are happy to spend the odd day (s!) in pjs if staying in.

I’m straight into my “loungewear” as soon as I’m home/if I’m not going out at all. So it’ll generally be comfy leggings and a hoodie/T-shirt, though occasionally pj bottoms. I love being in my comfy clothes, though did find it embarrassing when our very fancy and always dressed up neighbour dropped our xmas card round at 2pm and I was in my pjs and hair in a messy bun!

Notimeforaname · 02/01/2024 21:29

I'm with you op .

The moment I'm home, I'm into jammies.
Can be actual pyjamas or just an old hoodie and tracksuit bottoms, but theyre still jammies to me as I don't wear clothes like that outside.

And I don't get dressed in 'outside' clothes unless I'm actually going out.

@ShoePalaver i assume this is a joke. If not then you are a negligent parent.

I wouldn’t like doing this myself but negligent is a bit OTT.

My kids have had flu, actual influenza a positive swabs, all over Xmas and new year, 3 days when everyone was miserable we just didn't. My 2 yr old wanted to sit on my knee and breastfeed and watch Disney plus and my 5 yr old wanted to lounge around building lego and playing Minecraft. He has suspected ADHD and never wants to.lounge so I figured he was feeling extremely crap, so for 3 days we just changed jammies after bath af bedtime and DH went out for anything we needed at th shops and worked from home and kept us in food and treats.

It's very unlike us and I was starting to think we'd never get through but yesterday we went trampolining and today we went out to he shops and garden centre and everyone was back to normal. As a rule we always get dressed, I think I've had the flu as well bexause I hadn't realised how crap I felt I just had no energy at all then today life was easier again.

It felt very wrong but everyone clearly needed it.

Notimeforaname · 02/01/2024 21:31

My children sleep in their clothes in the holidays though, so kind of the same in reverse. They might keep the same outfit on for several days if it doesn't end up with food or mud on it.
Wtf?🤣 This has to be a joke.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 02/01/2024 21:32

I solve this problem by sleeping in a full suit and tie. And heels.

Does she not bath or shower?

Mine bath and into clean jammies at night so the rare jammie days we have they just stay in what they slept in until bath time

I don't know where this thing of not getting dressed and staying indoors all day has come from.
You might as well be in a hospital.
Standards have really slipped and so unhealthy mentally and physically.
It's just a lazy excuse saying l can't be bothered.

I think it’s probably cone from the fact that many people’s “outside” clothes have be one progressively more pj-like than would once have been acceptable. So leggings, trackies, hoodies etc.

soundsys · 02/01/2024 21:34

Everyone gets dressed here. Just feels a bit slobby not too (sorry!). Just a part of the day to brush teeth. Wash face and out some clothes on - albeit probably leggings/joggers and a hoody if we're not going out.

🤣🤣 Sorry I'm picturing that ad, those guys in the suits and heels, dancing. Cant unseen it. Had forgotten all about it for a while🤣

kiwiaddict · 02/01/2024 21:34

I get showered / dressed everyday, but I'm not going to put YABU - because tbh there's nothing wrong with doing it your way either. Don't stress about it 😊

Tinyfeetmummy · 02/01/2024 21:35

I do not get dressed in outdoor clothes unless I'm going somewhere, and over winter that's usually only once a week or so. I hate being outside when it's cold, so do online grocery orders and spend my days cozy indoors.
I don't wear anything to bed, so for me it's absolutely acceptable to wear pj's during the day. I also don't shower every day as my skin gets very dry and sore if I do, so it's usually every third or fourth day.
I appear to be in the minority, but I'm not super social and simply have no desire to not be as comfy as possible when I'm at home.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 02/01/2024 21:36

I don't sleep in pjs, they're my house clothes so I wear them at home. If someone calls around then they'll see me in pjs and I'm quite alright with that.

PeloMom · 02/01/2024 21:36

If we are staying in I don’t insist on getting changed from pjs but after bath in the evening I change them in new pj’s. I treat daytime pj’s as daytime clothes- at the end of the day they go for laundry.

I hope it's not true. In a poor family, leaving your children smelly or dirty, in unwashed clothes, would be (rightly) described as neglect. Not washing your body, and not even changing to sleep is appalling.

Cmonluv · 02/01/2024 21:37

ShoePalaver · 02/01/2024 20:30

PJ's are for sleeping only. I always go out every day anyway.

Honestly that sounds actually neglectful, I couldn't leave my kids dirty for days 🤢 and my standards are middling at best!

AdoraBell · 02/01/2024 21:38

Entirely up to you OP

Passingthethyme · 02/01/2024 21:38

I stay in PJs all day if I'm at home

DuchessPotato · 02/01/2024 21:39

I would feel gross if I didn’t shower and wash my hair when I get up. I wear joggers etc indoors but only change into actual PJs much later, say if I have a bath early evening.

I’d feel a right slob otherwise and mentally it wouldn’t do me any favours personally.

ThePoshUns · 02/01/2024 21:40

The only time anyone in out family would have ever been in pjs all day is if we were ill.
Shower and dress every day.
I'd feel dirty otherwise.

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 21:40

Very occasionally DS (5) asks for a pyjama day it usually indicates he's coming down with something, he also asked the first day of the Christmas holidays, it was a long half term...
If we're not going out I will sometimes put leggings and one of DHs sweatshirts/hoodies on , but I couldn't go without a shower in the mornings and once I'm showered it feels odd to put pyjamas back on if it's not the evening

Itsalondonthing · 02/01/2024 21:40

Dressed everyday in our house, just our comfies if we're not going out anywhere. Very occasionally we'll have PJ days but that still means getting changed from our previous night Pyjamas into clean ones, after a wash!

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 02/01/2024 21:41

Calliopespa · 02/01/2024 21:29

I wouldn’t like doing this myself but negligent is a bit OTT.

It is neglect. Washing, and dressing them in appropriate clean clothes is an act of basic care for your child. To fail to do that for "several days" is straight up neglect.

If your elderly relative who was in a care home was left to stink in the same clothes for several days, not even being changed to sleep or given a body wash, you'd be complaining about it.

[Edited to add - it is very different to wearing PJs through the day (but presumably changing them once a day, and showering at some point). It's also different to wearing comfy loungewear around the house.]

CJsGoldfish · 02/01/2024 21:41

I left the house once between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. It was blissful lounging around. Having said that, I did an awful lot around the house, including a deep clean of the ovens and ALL of the washing. You know, if you're like me, those 'bits' that just sit there to be washed for ages but there's always something else gets done instead.
I certainly wasn't getting dressed to stay in. Changed my pjs/'leasure' clothes if I'd been cleaning or gardening (yep, even got out in the garden in whatever I was wearing.
Plenty of food, plenty to do... I loved it and I loved not worrying about what to wear. Because I didn't need to 😝

Nonplusultra · 02/01/2024 21:43

I’m in the get up and dressed camp, although we have an occasional pyjama day. I associate it with being under the weather rather than relaxing though. Or that awful hospital inmate feeling.

But you do you. Zero judgement.
