DH came home with braces.

Not the teeth kind, the hold-your-trousers -up kind.

he’s put on some weight over the last year or two and finds it hard to get his trousers to stay up over / under his tummy. Belts don’t seem to help. So he has bought braces.

he’s also started wearing cardigans. So he does that thing where he puts his hands in his pockets, tucks the cardigans behind them, and exposes the braces. He hasn’t quite started rocking back on his heels and sucking in air through his teeth while shaking his head slowly, but it’s not far off.

he’s only 55. 😱

Isn’t he too young?? My dad is 77 and he wears braces (I think that’s where DH got the idea).

Garters in England are... actually I don't know what they are in America. But they're the things brides sometimes wear. Look like a scrunchie, sort of.

if He doesn’t like that he has put on weight maybe support him into finding a way that he do something about that? Obviously word it in a kind way not just well if you think your “fat” lose weight!
maybe suggest doing something together my husband and I did the six pack revolution as a challenge between the two of us that went well, we lost some much needed weight, had fun and kept the lifestyle which is always helpful haha! I definitely got back into all my old clothes in my wardrobe!

With the braces I mean sometimes they can look great on people so maybe he could rock it out! Hope it all goes well for you xx

YANBU to hate them. Somehow you need to find a way to get him to not increase his weight any further as well, in a tactful and positive way.

You should retaliate by wearing a housecoat, curlers and slippers until he stops.

My dad wore them as long as I can remember until he passed away, he was only 64 when he passed and it’s been 8 years… depending on how weight distributes sizes can be annoying and belts can not work.. what else is he supposed to do let his trousers sink to his ankles while teaching his classes ??

@Shodan , garters are the bridal hosiery holders, I’ve also seen men’s sleeve garters (fun to play with metal things).
Braces in Canada would be medical knee/wrist or dental.

Sorry Op i wouldn't like it.
But i have to say my late husband developed a love for these odd boots, old and very tatty, looked like something post man Pat would wear, he had lots of lovely shoes boots trainers but started to wear these all the time, when i commented he said he liked them.
Only admitting this now, he went out one day without them on, i dug a huge hole in the garden under the veggie patch, and put them in, he never found them, before everyone starts typing how wrong this is it started as a joke, he laughed too when he couldnt find them..

Although he could address the weight issue instead of a temporary fix .

It doesn’t sound like a he’s in with the trend though.

Maybe find yourself a long time the floor nightie and blue rinses your hair switch a perm see what he says or see if you manage to get your point across

My husband has 'gardening clothes', he's had the same ones for years, as long as I've known him. Definitely a Compo look.

😂 my husband has some braces 😆 but to be fair he wears them with DMs , jeans and a PIL T-shirt .

I would play that song 'you can leave your hat on' and ask him to do a sexy strip tease where he removes one brace at a time.

All these comments about his weight with comments like uck, can you just imagine the outrage and rightly so if this was discussing a woman had put on weight.
On the braces, I quite like them.

Husband is 39 and has also brought braces home. I am mortified. He looks like Mouch off Chicago Fire, but mostly Andy Pandy with his t-shirt tucked into his trousers.
