DH came home with braces.

Not the teeth kind, the hold-your-trousers -up kind.

he’s put on some weight over the last year or two and finds it hard to get his trousers to stay up over / under his tummy. Belts don’t seem to help. So he has bought braces.

he’s also started wearing cardigans. So he does that thing where he puts his hands in his pockets, tucks the cardigans behind them, and exposes the braces. He hasn’t quite started rocking back on his heels and sucking in air through his teeth while shaking his head slowly, but it’s not far off.

he’s only 55. 😱

Isn’t he too young?? My dad is 77 and he wears braces (I think that’s where DH got the idea).

What cut are the trousers? If he has a portly tummy and favours slim legs, I find men’s legs can start looking a bit parsnipy.

One of my sons wears them occasionally. Apparently it's cool. Perhaps older guys could have a discreet sign reading ' I am being ironic'.

Sorry OP, you're just going to have to brace yourself and belt up about your DH's sartorial choices. 😂

Totally disagree with everyone re cardigans - I love a cardigan on a man - total Steve McQueen vibes! I persuaded my dh to get one, and I have one myself too, McQueen-style, chunky with shawl collar. It's lush 😍

I love shawl collars. Seem to see them on men's clothes much more often than women's. Mind you, at nearly 6ft tall, I can just buy a men's cardigan..

I love those chunky cardigans, most men can carry them - different styles.

Honestly if you all found out your husband had gone online and said "my wife is a bit tubby now and has started wearing leggings °because they are more comfortable but I think they make her look lazy°" and other men were joining in to say that it was cringe and bad and slagging their own wives off you'd all have a fit!

According to The Times this morning, braces are in!

My DH wears braces, I bought him flamingo ones for Christmas, I don't think he's worn them yet...

“Only 55”. He’s solidly middle aged. Back in the day men of this age would be in full old man fashions, indeed probably by mid 40s. This is not a young man by any stretch.

I bought my husband some braces last year thinking they'd make him look cool and accentuate his DILFness. Nope, Compo from last of the summer wine.

I like braces on slimmer guys but with an overhanging belly, oh no.

My husband wears braces sometimes and is in his 50s. He is slim and looks ok. He says some trousers don’t suit belts. It is more of a Jermyn St look.

I call it his ‘wanker look’.
