Personally I think he's great and he's clearly living his best life but the demographic of the crowd. Middle aged white men and women. The lack of diversity is quite shocking.

Rod Stewart on Jools Holland was shocking 🤣

Minewasthesame · 31/12/2023 23:40

Seems the demographic of people that want to see Rick Astley live tbh

charliecoopershair · 31/12/2023 23:41

It's really noticeable and not in a good way.

It’s 20 minutes until we begin a brand new year, and you’re posting upset because Rick Astley doesn’t have enough black fans?

Babymamamama · 31/12/2023 23:42

Yanbu. Isn’t it odd? Considering it’s at the Camden Roundhouse in one of the most diverse cities in the UK. Where did they advertise the tickets? Daily Mail?

JenniferBooth · 31/12/2023 23:42

Hes aging well He has barely changed

Babymamamama · 31/12/2023 23:43

Had to switch over to avoid rod Stewart. Voice has gone. Rick on the other hand singing great.

KarenNotAKaren · 31/12/2023 23:43

…have I fallen through the looking glass?

WHat do you propose Astley - or anyone in fact - does about this? Round up a few young black people and force them to listen to his shite music?

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 31/12/2023 23:43

🙄😂😂😂

Rod Stewart was SO bad - couldn’t understand a word 😬

idontlikealdi · 31/12/2023 23:43

@KarenNotAKaren no, just a bit taken aback by the glaring lack of diversity of any sort.

What does being 20 mins away from a new year have to do with it?

Awful username btw.

I was heavily pregnant in 2016 at a Rod Stewart concert. He was so bad that I left early. Great to see IRL but his aged voice grated on me

I turned over to avoid Astley. Sounded grim. And I always thought he had a reasonably good voice.
Stewart is a technically accomplished singer, though I agree that was a bit shit.

You are missing the irony of my username.

Why do artists have to have a diverse audience? I suspect many artists have a largely black demographic. Is that also a problem? Of course Rick Astley Had an older audience he was an 80’d performer

What’s wrong with middle aged white men and women?
and how can you tell there is no diversity of any sort?

JenniferBooth · 31/12/2023 23:46

Having seen and read interviews with Rick he comes across as a nice bloke

12menandtrue · 31/12/2023 23:47

Here we go again. Who cares what bloody colour they are.

SteadyEddi · 31/12/2023 23:47

It’s my children who like Rick (in an ironic tongue in cheek way), not the adults. Thankfully they can’t purchase tickets and drag us along

Yes I want to know this. Did they have their credentials tattooed on their faces?

Iam4eels · 31/12/2023 23:48

He comes across as a nice bloke but for NYE telly it's all a bit fucking dire. Was everyone else busy when the BBC were doing their booking?

CointreauVersial · 31/12/2023 23:48

Surely that's just the demographic of his fans? He's playing white, middle-aged music. I can't get myself worked up about it, tbh.

I am however wondering how he hasn't aged at all since the 80s....he looked like a 40 year old in his heyday, and he still does now.

LubaLuca · 31/12/2023 23:48

Luck of the draw, surely. The organisers couldn't exactly put a percentage of tickets aside for people who aren't white and middle-aged.

Singleandproud · 31/12/2023 23:49

Presumably the tickets were available to anyone and those are the people who decided to purchase/apply for them.

the80sweregreat · 31/12/2023 23:50

I love Rick !
Happy new year everyone !! X

“Middle aged white men and women.”

He had hit records in the mid 1980s and he’ll soon be pushing 60.

He’s on the BBC on New Years Eve. The BBC’s target audience for this programme are people who are sitting on the sofa watching the the Telly on New Years Eve and Not Going Out.

The audience is hardly going to be Hip Young Things in search of cutting edge music.

Did you expect anything else?

I like Rick Astley but it’s a very Middle Of The Road gig.
