Personally I think he's great and he's clearly living his best life but the demographic of the crowd. Middle aged white men and women. The lack of diversity is quite shocking.

OP posts:

12 pages and the OP hasn't come back ?

clever posting OP and we've all fallen for it.

bellac11 · 01/01/2024 12:33

Im thinking of other buddy ups

Dolly Parton and Snoop Dogg
Neil Diamond and Beyonce

newnamethanks · 01/01/2024 12:41

Well done OP. Bank Holiday fun for all.

iklboo · 01/01/2024 12:43

Back under their bridge I think.

Laughing my head off at this thread and the idea that black and brown people should be made to listen to Rick Astley against their will.

Happy New Year MN. Never change! 😂

I'm an Indian lady and I bloody love Rick Astley's beautiful voice. Had a crush on him in my younger days, nothing to do with being brown or white!!

Tiredalwaystired · 01/01/2024 12:49

I went to a Take That concert nearly twenty years ago. In a stadium. A handful of that of non white faces.

Likewise we went to a comedy night of black comedians a few years ago. We were the only white faces.

All artists have a demographic. Why is this a surprise?

Eleganz · 01/01/2024 12:52

I am presuming this tickets were on general sale?

The only thing that bothered me about the small amount of it that I watched around the fireworks was being ambushed by Rylan and that bloody awful duet. Although the kids that managed to stay up were all besides themselves that the first thing to happen to them in 2024 was being rick rolled.

As a non-white person, I’m fairly confident that within my circle of both white and non-white friends, very few of them are into Rick Astley, certainly not enough to pay money to see him. I, however, would have given an arm and a leg to have seen him at Glastonbury. I’ve loved him since 1987, but have never got around to catching him live.

Our DD (10) was tickled pink at how many people were Rick Rolled by him! Xmas Grin

I just enjoyed the show not sat there checking the demographic of the audience.Im sure there are concerts with mostly ethnic minority audiences get a life.

How do you propose increased diversity? Forcibly Rick Roll people á la Clockwork Orange?

newnamethanks · 01/01/2024 13:34

Shocked OP? Be careful not to accept a ticket to a Cliff Richard concert. Or how about a Jim Davidson comedy night? Horses for courses.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 01/01/2024 13:54

I'm the first to advocate for diversity and representation but the audience for a live performance just doesn't come under that umbrella.

And as a PP said, what have you got against middle aged white people? We're not all bigots, you know.

Personally, I loved the interaction between the religious, straight, middle aged Rick Astley and Rylan Clark. In our household we thought it was great representation of interaction between two very different men who were performing.

Diversity is about a lot more than race and age.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 01/01/2024 13:58

@TheThingIsYeah
BBC productions have tickets that are available for people like any other show. They don't just fill the audience up with their families!

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 15:42

Didn't take Mumsnet long to delete my post. What wrong Mumsnet. Are you racially prejudiced or is it because I is white.

🤣 Didn't see what you wrote to be deleted but "is it because I is white" says it was most probably deserved 🙄😂

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 15:50

They are scared of the truth of what a great deal of people really think.

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 15:51

The basis was that I am sick of apologizing for being white.

newnamethanks · 01/01/2024 15:57

Hello @12menandtrue. You are in the wrong place. Kindly go away and take your poisonous opinions with you. Nigel Farage is just over there with his mate Yaxley Lennon. They'll be glad to embrace you.

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 15:59

And I would do that gladly along with all the other posters who thanked me for my post.

newnamethanks · 01/01/2024 16:01

Yes I know. I guessed, bye.

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 16:04

Bye sweetie. Nigel Farage for Prime Minister.

Loved seeing Rylan there!

😂
It's January 1st, maybe a good challenge for you would be Dry January as it sounds like you could do with stepping away from the drink 😁

12menandtrue · 01/01/2024 17:18

Ah, you are perhaps thinking of Vino Veritas. I am stone cold sober. I do not need to be drunk to speak my truth at how sad I am to see what is happening to my country. However, you are boring me now so I will leave you. I am off to read Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech.
