Ugh men are gross

I say this as someone who would like to meet someone , but currently rethinking it...
I'm in a pub waiting for a friend for our annual nye lunch. A nice pub. In walk 3 couples. Roughly mid to late forties, all look nice and well dressed. Bit of chat and the women of the couples say goodbye and go off for a bit of shopping and will be back in an hour. Kisses all round, bye etc
Now the women are gone, I can hear everything the blokes are saying (while I'm pretending to read my book and go on mumsnet)
Topics they have covered so far (and I wish I was making this up)
1.One of them hasn't had a poo for a few days , went to toilet came back and showed photos of what he's done in the pub toilet. It was massive apparently and they all looked at it.

  1. They were all at a party for Christmas eve and a different friends daughter is definitely 'smashable' even though she is only 17
  2. Sienna Miller is fit and knows it so you could do what you want to her. They then were googling porn pictures of her.
  3. The band 10cc is a joke on the average amount of semen a man produces but the one regularly covers his wife back in it and there's loads more than that.
  4. The barmaid is too fat to shag unless you're desperate
These are normal looking attractive men who anyone would think look well dressed, seem like 'good' men etc but they acted totally different when their partners were here before they went shopping. . I can sit here and listen as I am fat and middle aged so invisible to them. I'm not a prude, but the switch was Shocking. Those women would probably never think their partners spoke like that.

And how many of them are raising daughters? It's sad

This is what I was wondering. Surely they can't have had daughters and also said their friends daughter was smashable?
You couldn't be that detached could you?

Doesn't surprise me in the least.

GrandHighPoohbah · 31/12/2023 13:56

I am particularly shocked about publicly sexualusing another friend's daughter, who presumably is roughly the same age as their own children. That is definitely off limits.

Me too!
The sienna Miller thing was horrible too. That they could 'do what they want to her' cos she knows she is fit. What a weird way to think . Again, dehumanising

Any middle aged man who openly talks like that about a child (and a daughter of one of their own friends) are vile specimens.

They might not speak like that in front of their partners but their characters will still shine through.

NotForMeCheers · 31/12/2023 13:47

That's horrible OP, those men are particularly gross.

Your thread title is also horrible.

Completely agree on both counts. Those men sound utterly vile!

But...

In the summer, I was sat in my car at a petrol filling station in a small village when a woman who I'd say was in her 30s came out of the toilet (door down side of the building) and flung a used tampon over the fence. I could not believe what I thought I had seen until a lady popped her head up at the other side of the fence a few moments later screaming about what some "filthy animal" had thrown which landed in her dog's run.

Not many months ago I overheard 3 women talking in the pub. Two were laughing their heads off as the third regaled them with a story about how she had, and I quote, "wiped his toothbrush in my arse crack and then had a shit in his bed", when talking about how she'd dumped her boyfriend when he said he thought they were getting too serious quickly.

Ergo, 'Ugh, women are gross'.

Or does it not work like that?

Yes, that is appalling.

No matter how degenerate they are, you'd think they'd at least have respect for their own friends' children. If they don't respect their friends then who do they respect?!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 31/12/2023 14:11

I don’t know why you think being well-dressed indicates a certain standard of behaviour is to be expected. Most of the “well-dressed” men I see in our city centre on a night out are “lad’s lad” types, often with a misogynist or sexist streak, all dressed up out on the pull or with their other halves who have spent 3 hours getting ready and 20 minutes knocking back a bottle of Prosecco, getting more raucous by the minute and building up to shouting at their man at the end of the night “just leave it, Gary, he’s not worth it!” when he gets all aggro cos someone was staring at his wife’s tits.

In contrast some of the scruffiest people I know are some of the kindest, most genuine people who are the total opposite of the bell-ends described in the OP.

PuffyShirt · 31/12/2023 14:11

Most men aren’t like that.

And I’ll admit we have had the conversation about 10cc’s name in our very respectable MC friendship group!

Grimpo · 31/12/2023 14:13

The barmaid is too fat to shag unless you're desperate

I'd be tempted to walk past and comment loudly that it's well known that only men with tiny penises make that sort of comment.

Whyyes · 31/12/2023 14:20

Women can be bitchy and nasty (mainly to each other). But women don't degrade and objectify men in the same way they do to us or to the same extent. If a woman gets nasty to a man, it's on an individual personal level. When men get nasty to women, they often degenerate and disrespect women as a gender.

CostedStrikeRate · 31/12/2023 14:23

I don't know how to have relationships with them any more. I guess not all men or women enjoy that groupish behaviour.

TomatoSandwiches · 31/12/2023 14:24

I find men compartmentalise to a very disturbing degree. A lot of them do this, make disgusting comments and even consciously/subconsciously dehumanised the very women they live with and claim to love, even their sisters, daughters, it doesn't matter to them, their words don't matter so long as they are appropriate or accepted by their audience of the moment.

LakeTiticaca · 31/12/2023 14:25

You must have led a very sheltered life OP, or you have never been in a group of women and heard what they talk about when the men are elsewhere 😉

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 31/12/2023 14:25

Threads like this made me even more glad that I've decided to stay single! I'm doing all I can to raise my son to be a decent man. And also for my daughters to be decent women of course.

Some men are gross. Some women are bitches. Not sure I’d get that bothered about a private conversation between men I didn’t know.

Lol the second response is already "but, but women too," how pathetic

Not pathetic at all. Title says men are gross. Some are. Some women are not nice either. I just wouldn’t get worked up about a conversation strangers were having and then claim that men in general are gross.

Verv · 31/12/2023 14:32

I work in a male dominated industry. Male colleagues, male clients. I’ve been doing it for years so I’ve become like wallpaper and they don’t filter around me.
Its eye opening to say the least, and every last one of them is a respectable well dressed man in a long term relationship.

Sometimes I’m convinced that women don’t have much of a clue about what men do and say when they’re out of sight/earshot.
“Not my Malcolm!” (Yep, your Malcolm when you’re not supervising.)

TheaBrandt · 31/12/2023 14:34

They generally are far nastier about women than women are about men. Most men would have to admit that’s true themselves. Agree it’s depressing. It’s not all men from my life experience reckon it’s broadly about a third.

GothConversionTherapy · 31/12/2023 14:28

The thread title is pathetic.

It's also pathetic to tar half the human race with the same brush.

If the title said 'Ugh women are gross', I'm sure you'd have more to say about that?

AmethystSparkles · 31/12/2023 14:35

I’m not sure why there would be a connection in your mind between ‘successful’ men and respectfulness. It’s the opposite…alpha males are known for being arrogant, vile creatures.

What about all the very successful men who work in the city and are known to regularly use escorts and take cocaine?

Mimilamore · 31/12/2023 14:37

Sadly I have witnessed similar.... coupled with nasty racism
