To ask if you think I’ve just been scammed?

I think I have and I feel sooo stupid.

I followed an Instagram as for the Space Nk 2023 advent calendar advertised as now being 45.99. Website looked like the Space NK website. I ordered and paid.

My receipt to my email said the payment would appear as to ‘leggingsoutlet’ svuch seemed very odd. I checked the website again and it’s Soace NK outlet not actual Space NK.

I’ve been scammed haven’t I?

I suspect so - that calendar almost always sells out.

it’s worth contacting your bank in case they can help.

CoatOfArms · 28/12/2023 13:39

The "outletzoon" is a dead giveaway. You won't see the money again but contact your bank and stop the cards.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 28/12/2023 13:39

Yes, you have - get onto your bank ASAP.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 28/12/2023 13:40

I think so

pastaandpesto · 28/12/2023 13:41

Bunch of bastards.

SilentSoubriquet · 28/12/2023 13:41

£45 for a calendar?! Is it made of gold????!

but yeah really does sound like you’ve been scammed. They are getting very very clever.

I was nearly scammed the other week by what I thought was a Royal Mail email. Told me I had a signed letter that needed redelivering. Clicked the link and they asked me for a £2.99 payment. They made me pause…so I googled quickly and found out that yeah it’s a scam. Royal Mail don’t require a payment to redeliver an item. Apparently these people ask you for this small fee and then empty your bank

GreatGateauxsby · 28/12/2023 13:42

Yep.
contact your bank.

It’s meant to be £235 😃

That is about 1/4 the original price of that advent calendar.

gingersnappz · 28/12/2023 13:45

Don't feel stupid - it just came up on my Instagram this morning too and looked really genuine.

Scrantonicity2 · 28/12/2023 13:45

Website looked like the Space NK website.

You can tell if it is or not by googling Space NK and going to the actual website. To me it's obvious the "spacenk" bit is tacked on to the actual url for something called outletzoon.

These scum rely on people using the internet without knowing how things like URLs work. Don't fall for it!

The number one rule is- if something seems too good to be true, take time to check it out first. If everyone did that the scammers wouldn't make any money.

SilentSoubriquet · 28/12/2023 13:55

£200!!!!!! And I thought the one that caught my eye at £50 was expensive

BiffandChip1 · 28/12/2023 13:59

Yeah you have. If you cancel your card etc then I think if you wait 21 days you can get the money back (assuming the "item" has not arrived).

Adventscam · 28/12/2023 14:04

Thanks all. I called my bank and they said to call back once the payment has cleared and they should be able to reclaim it. And he said a woman had already called about the sand thing today.

I just didn’t really look at the domain as I clicked shop now and it took me to the website via Instagram.

They have emailed me an order number etc but I assume that’s all to make you think you’re getting something and by the time you realise you’re not they’ve shut up shop.

Bit concerned they have all my details now.

mottytotty · 28/12/2023 14:06

Yes, but don’t worry, I got scammed and the bank refunded me.

There is a bit of a process, but trust me, call your bank, they will help.

terffert · 28/12/2023 14:18

It's good to understand a bit about how URLs work. The stuff at the front, spacenk in this case, can be set to whatever the website owner wants, so if that corresponds to the thing you're interested in, it means nothing at all. It's the stuff at the back, just before the .com or whatever, that tells you what domain this is. So you'd expect a URL that was really associated with spacenk to be blah.spacenk.com, or something like that - that would tell you it's page blah within the domain spacenk.com, which would be somewhat reassuring if you're checking this page is something to do with the real spacenk. In this case, though, what you've got is page spacenk within domain outletzoon.com, which is not reassuring at all. This check is not foolproof because it can happen that a spammer owns a domain name which looks like a real brand name but is not the official domain associated with the brand, but it's a good start. Raise your suspicions high if the name you're looking for us at the start of the URL not the end.

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 28/12/2023 14:20

Hmmm, I'd call your bank back and ask them to cancel your card & send you a new one.

Octonaut4Life · 28/12/2023 14:24

Also you should probably complain to Instagram that they're promoting a scam ad.

Isseywith3witchycats · 28/12/2023 14:35

this sounds like one of those scams where you pay for something good and what you actually get is a small silk scarf from china i got caught on one of those luckily it didnt cost me a fortune and as they actually sent something i couldnt get my money back but most of these look so good

Adventscam · 28/12/2023 14:43

I’ve reported the ad to Instagram - hopefully they’ll take it down.

OP posts:
wronginalltherightways · 28/12/2023 14:46

I saw the same ad; definitely a scam site.

There was an ad up for a massive Lyle & Scott sale, too. The prices looked amazing ... until you sensibly searched up the REAL Lyle & Scott site via google and saw quite a difference in discounts.

You have to be careful out there in the wilds of the internet.

I hope you get your money back.

Ashleysaidwhat · 28/12/2023 14:49

I seen the same add and had a load of things in my basket. I closed insta by mistake and it disappeared.

I’ve been scammed haven’t I?

When I try your link I get a Norton Message 'Dangerous Web Page Blocked'. Definitely not looking good.

CoatOfArms · 28/12/2023 15:02

Look, we all like a bargain. Especially after the most spendy time of the year.

But if it seems too good to be true...

Charlize43 · 28/12/2023 15:09

If you haven't already, please report it to Instagram so more people don't get scammed.
