To ask if you think I’ve just been scammed?

I think I have and I feel sooo stupid.

I followed an Instagram as for the Space Nk 2023 advent calendar advertised as now being 45.99. Website looked like the Space NK website. I ordered and paid.

My receipt to my email said the payment would appear as to ‘leggingsoutlet’ svuch seemed very odd. I checked the website again and it’s Soace NK outlet not actual Space NK.

I’ve been scammed haven’t I?

Just wondering who would pay £45 let alone £235 for that pile of crap!!

I think everyone on here except maybe you!

kierenthecommunity · 29/12/2023 00:36

I was a couple of clicks away from falling for this one only on Facebook. It was so convincing but just as I was going to pay something just niggled at me. So I googled the Space NK website which said, obviously, it was out of stock. I then just wondered why a random website would have these leftover ones and why Space NK wouldn’t sell them themselves if they had them?

And I’m a police detective so should have known straight away 🤣

It’s actually awesome if you’re into beauty. Even at £235, if you use everything it’s a bargain.

Amyanonymous1 · 29/12/2023 00:51

Well personally my reason was if you sell each item individually on eBay you can make a decent amount of profit.

JMSA · 29/12/2023 00:54

I saw this very ad tonight on FB. Funnily enough, someone had posted a GIF or a meme with 'SCAM ALERT'.

I'm sorry if this has happened to you OP, but your bank should be able to help.

£45 for a calendar?! Is it made of gold????!

but yeah really does sound like you’ve been scammed. They are getting very very clever.

I was nearly scammed the other week by what I thought was a Royal Mail email. Told me I had a signed letter that needed redelivering. Clicked the link and they asked me for a £2.99 payment. They made me pause…so I googled quickly and found out that yeah it’s a scam. Royal Mail don’t require a payment to redeliver an item. Apparently these people ask you for this small fee and then empty your bank

That's incredibly cheap for a beauty advent calendar Grin

And my teen got the same text from 'Royal Mail' Confused Thankfully I was able to alert her before she put her details in. Thing is, it DID coincide with an undelivered parcel. A big coincidence or these scans are getting way more sophisticated.

We should ask MNHQ for a Scamwatch topic, then people could check it before using questionable websites.

That's such a good idea. @mnhq would you consider this please? Thank you. 🌹

doitwithlove · 29/12/2023 07:59

Definitely a scam. A colleague of mine purchased clothing from Bonmarche - no email confirmation & payment was made to leggings outlet.

Contact your bank asap

I have posted a suggestion on Site Stuff - if you think a 'Scamwatch' topic is a good idea, please add your support for it on this thread:

Scrantonicity2 · 29/12/2023 10:04

The thing is, there are potentially infinite websites people can make, so if it's not on this Scamwatch section people may believe it's real. Surely it's better to take approx 15 mins of your life to learn about URLs and remember to Google before typing your bank card details into an electronic form?

I've never ever seen a scammy email/link that had a realistic looking URL.

BlackJumpsuit · 29/12/2023 12:04

I almost got caught too - it was on Facebook FFS!!

Do you mean the ad was on FB? Why do you think this has anything to do with what is legitimate or not? (Or do you mean there were posts on FB advising this was a scam?)

BlackJumpsuit · 29/12/2023 14:07

I mistakenly thought Facebook may have some kind of vetting system for their advertisers. Apparently not.

Httyw · 29/12/2023 18:07

I almost fell for it . The ad is on FB now . I just googled outletzoon.

Scrantonicity2 · 29/12/2023 18:26

If you're seeing the ad on fb, might be worth clicking "report".

Anyone can post an ad on FB.

Onlysarah · 29/12/2023 20:21

I fear the same

BeggyMitchell · 29/12/2023 20:25

Just wanted to let you all know I've fallen for scams only twice in my life and they were both through Insta. I wouldn't use it to purchase anything these days, in fact that goes for all SM.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 29/12/2023 20:26

'outletzoon' is quite a bug clue that's it not the genuine site!

piscofrisco · 29/12/2023 20:46

Dh did the same with a very convincing office shoes site on insta. Payment went to leggings outlet. He tried to tell the bank the day he did it, but they wouldn't have it and sort of said to wait and see. Back in touch with them today and they have cancelled all his cards etc. pain in the arse.

Annoné · 29/12/2023 21:17

Yes. I was taken in too. Slowly dawned on me that it was too good to be true. But luckily I stopped my card before any money was taken.

Wateroverwine · 29/12/2023 21:49

You aren't stupid it's just a learning curve. It happens

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 29/12/2023 21:57

BlackJumpsuit · 29/12/2023 14:07

I mistakenly thought Facebook may have some kind of vetting system for their advertisers. Apparently not.

Facebook very clearly don't give a flying fuck what crap is advertised on there as long as they get paid.
I used to report a lot of obvious scams and fake news stories leading to fake newspaper and media websites but Facebook does fuck all.

Martin Lewis had to take them to court to stop his name and image appearing on scams.

They don't give a fuck.

sorchadug · 30/12/2023 10:56

I fell for it too - I’ve called my bank and stopped my card. I’m going to issue a complaint to see if I can get the money back, but bank says I have to wait 2 weeks…

Ambi · 30/12/2023 11:08

It's best to use credit cards for all online transactions for this reason. You can raise a dispute and cancel the payment quicker and with ease and no risk to your bank account. Hope you get sorted OP, They work on people not paying 100% attention amongst all the post Christmas sales ad's, it's easy to do.
