Men using Mumsnet

Mumsnet was always a safe space to me, a community of women for women and recently I have noticed an influx of husbands on here.
Can't women have anything just for themselves?I t's getting on my nerves!
(I'm not talking about same sex marriage / partners and I believe in equality).

AINBU Men please seek alternative forms 😊

If we are banning men, I'd also like to ban the hard left wing, blue haired, tattoo brigade who have no intention of ever being a Mum.

We promote our site as being "by parents, for parents" and we'd very much hope that included parents of both genders and of all ages

Fuck me, as a non-parent I've never felt less welcome on here!

Edited

I wouldn't worry about it. If you look hard enough you'll see there are MNetters who hate...

Parents
Non-parents
Dogs
Cats
Men
Women
ND people
NT people
Tories
Labour
Katie Price
Fat people
Slim people

Just think of something...anything at all and you'll find hatred of it here 🤣🤣

A huge pinch of salt is required.

Fgs op..... get a bloody life!

Mrsjayy · 28/12/2023 15:18

WhateverMate · 28/12/2023 14:05

Yes, to do that specific thing is absolutely awful.

A bit like when someone is in pieces over their abusive husband and some twat pipes up with, "This has just reminded me why I love being single".

oh I saw this yesterday , the Op was upset and venting and some smart arse came away with " oh im glad i m single" i mean just scroll by !

coldcallerbaiter · 28/12/2023 15:18

Technically it should be mums but female non-mums post here. It is not called womens-net.

The only ones I think are pathetic are ones I think might be men asking leading questions. I clicked on one this morning with title shave or IPL, so went to give an answer as I have had IPL (it’s actually a lot of work but worth it) and it was a new thread, but I backed out the door after reading it was bikini line, something about it made me wonder who OP was, I might be mistaken though.

Anyone else disappointed the OP didn't explain what she meant about gay posters?

I'm still baffled.

I thiiiink she was saying that she didn't want men on here - assuming that all of those pesky men would be husbands of women (whether said women are MNers or not) - as it should only be for women (not necessarily just mums).

Then, she wanted to point out that the female partners (who are clearly not men anyway) of lesbians who gave birth to their joint children ARE welcome too, even though they are not bio mums; even though she never actually restricted her ideal of MN users only to female people who are also mums, which would suggest that all lesbians would already be eminently qualified to join...

Yep, I'm baffled too!!

Am I the only one who read that list with We Didn't Start The Fire going around in my head?!

I'm slightly baffled by the people on here who don't have children.

VolvoFan · 28/12/2023 15:32

Depends why they're on there. I frequent the conception forum on here because I'm trying to concieve. In doing that I tend to stay away from the places where people are complaining about their kids.

Really, perhaps you can answer the question that's been asked many times but only one poster has ever been able to answer then?

If someone comes for the conception board, joins in with the "is this a line" thread, asks people about their nub theories for their baby, but then goes on to have a miscarriage or a stillbirth, exactly how soon after that happens are they supposed to de register?

Or is it okay if they hang around and talk about TV shows and books?

Because I'm always baffled by the posters who see the conception and the infertility boards and think that there won't be posters on here without children. Especially when so many of them joined when pregnant so didn't even have children themselves

TilNextYear · 28/12/2023 15:34

I'm slightly baffled by the people on here who don't have children.

Why? Most of the boards aren’t even about having children.

Are you also surprised by analogue people who don't work in the espionage services who frequent Digital Spy?!

CurlewKate · 28/12/2023 15:35

"Handmaiden which is always used as an insult against women, is 100% sexist."

No it's not. It is a very specific pattern of behaviour which is exclusive to women-by definition. Men cannot-also by definition- be handmaidens.

Or people who do in fact have human heads on piston heads

In fact I would go as far as to say the whole point of the money saving experts site is that in fact many of the posters are not experts at saving money, otherwise that forum would be wholly pointless

there is lots of other things to talk about on here though, personally my children are proper adults with mortgages and spouses, ive no interest in talking about slings or schools does that mean i shouldnt use the forums?

What about right wing, no tattoos, brown haired brigade who have no intention of ever being a mum

@kitsuneghost they're ok, they're not offended over absolutely everything. They don't use the word cunt in every sentence and don't appear on every thread telling women they're being abused and they should DIVORCE YESTERDAY over a mild grievance.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 16:12

I'm amazed that posters who are child-free are not (rightly) upset & annoyed by the number of posts saying they've no right to be on MN.

How offensive.

Anyone is welcome here. And to contribute to any thread. It obviously is preferable if any poster at least has some meaningful contribution to make, regardless of their sex or personal situation.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 28/12/2023 16:18

I used to be here for parenting advice but now it's more education and relationships.

Men are welcome as long as they don't patronise others.

Some child-free Mn are not child-free by choice.

You can't control who uses the internet can you?

VolvoFan · 28/12/2023 16:20

No, but you can bet they want to.

This.

As well as the myriad of other reasons.

Some of the posts on here are offensive, I will include mine in that, I was riled by the self absorbed smugness.

I must admit, it's taking me a moment to see the abbreviation 'CF' on here and then properly read it in context as 'child-free'!

Oh...I've been reading it as cheeky fucker and it's not been making much sense🤔😕

Got it now, thanks for the tip Underpants! 😆

Me too!

I suspect some posters are upset about it but just aren't posting to say so. Others will just be rolling their eyes and thinking, "that's someone to ignore." And many more probably won't have seen this thread anyway.

I usually find scrolling past and ignoring is a better use of my time than responding to posters whose mindset is clearly far apart from mine.

There’s always been a very vocal and hostile cohort who think us childfree have nothing to offer here and no business here. They usually reveal themselves early on in their ranting by posting “but it’s called MUMSnet” as if that is the ultimate mic-drop comment.

I do wonder about them at times- are they stupid and lacking in imagination, is it that they can’t see that the vast bulk of this site has fuck all to do with parenting, or are they unhappy and dissatisfied with how their lives have panned out and therefore resent those of us who chose different paths in life? Some are clearly very threatened by our mere existence and wish to hunt us off the site.

Boomer55 · 28/12/2023 16:47

Men, like women, can go on any site they want to. No public form is ever a safe space.
