Tinsel.. does it go on the tree or not?

I say no. Absolutely not. He loves it, the more the merrier and the tackier..

If I don't put it on the tree he will wait till I'm in bed and put it on 🤣. So I'm embracing it this year but it really is so tacky!

Christmas trees are meant to be tacky.

devildeepbluesea · 21/12/2023 21:33

Yes definitely on the tree. But it looks best tucked in a bit.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 21/12/2023 21:33

The kids like tinsel so we put it on. I know loads of people don't anymore.

RandomButtons · 21/12/2023 21:33

Of course it does. It looks tacky and sadly I can never find any and the shops are all out of it…

TeaKitten · 21/12/2023 21:34

It’s a tree in your living room with plastic crap on it, it’s suppose to be tacky! Embrace it. These people who think they have grown up elegant trees - also tacky. It’s Christmas, just go with it!

Soubriquet · 21/12/2023 21:34

Tinsel goes ON the tree!!

MiddleClassProblem · 21/12/2023 21:34

On the tree!

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/12/2023 21:34

You are right. Tinsel on a tree is an abomination.

I allow it in other places with lights mixed in.

WetBandits · 21/12/2023 21:35

We’re a tinsel-free house Grin I can’t stand the feel of it and I never think it looks nice!

BooksAndHooks · 21/12/2023 21:35

I hate tinsel, but on that tree it looks lovely.

mynameiscalypso · 21/12/2023 21:35

Eh? Of course it's on the tree. But you put in on after the lights and before any baubles so it's tucked in a bit.

C1N1C · 21/12/2023 21:35

If I knew you hated it, I'd wake up at 2 am and swamp the thing in it too!

😈

Tistheseasontobejollytrala · 21/12/2023 21:35

It’s all down to taste, I’m not a big fan of tinsel or red underwear but I can see by its prevalence in the shops that plenty of people like them.
Can you take turns to decorate the tree? This year he can have full reign, next year you do with the understanding of no underhand sabotage by the non-decorator?
I think he’s enjoying winding you up.

DappledThings · 21/12/2023 21:35

A Christmas tree without tinsel is a sad and naked tree.

StampOnTheGround · 21/12/2023 21:36

100% tinsel on the tree, they look horrid without!

TeddyBeans · 21/12/2023 21:36

Tinsel goes on the tree before the lights go on to reflect the light more!

SD1978 · 21/12/2023 21:36

I just remember Christmas trees as a kid, full of tinsel, twinkly lights. For me that's a tree. The stylised, fits with an aesthetic look bores me. Tinsel ahoy!

Holidayhell22 · 21/12/2023 21:36

I have tinsel on loveyouu tree. Dh isn’t keen.

I want a loveyouu tree Grin

Holidayhell22 · 21/12/2023 21:37

My tree that should say.

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 21/12/2023 21:37

The tinsel you have around the picture frames is tackier.

Wrongsideofpennines · 21/12/2023 21:37

Definitely on the tree. Hang it over picture frames, round the balustrades, over doorframes - tinsel goes everywhere.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 21/12/2023 21:37

There is no place on a tree for tinsel.

We've got a multi coloured tinsel covered tree (tinsel is vintage before the environmentalists shout me down). Kids decorate and they love it.
