Somebody keeps knocking at my door

I’ve no idea who it is. Peeped outside without them seeing me and they keep knocking hard 3 times. Then again 3 times then again 3 times. They left and now half an hour later they’re back. Would you answer? I’m worried as I really do not recognise them

Also it’s not a delivery or anything like that

I’m not sure if they’ve left again or waiting outside the door

Here’s a crazy idea. Why not open the door and find out?

Could be doorstep charity chuggers. Don't open the door. They will go away.

Open a window and ask if you don’t want to open the door? My mum used to do this as she had great anxiety about people knocking on the door. Even now my heart races when someone knocks on the door. It’s not normal!

Just answer the door. Maybe they're trying to tell you your roof is on fire or your car's been vandalised.

I wouldn’t answer unless I was expecting a delivery or guest.

Could they have the wrong address? We are number 15 on our road and keep getting mistaken for 15 on another road! We’ve had pizza delivered, Tesco deliveries, a plasterer turn up… only way we got round it is to get a house sign that clearly says our road name as well as number.

If you're anxious but want to know who it is, why don't you open your bedroom window and shout down?
No harm they can do to you then, and you know who it is

Of course I would answer the door, it's the middle of the day, how else would I know what they wanted

But I know that's a minority view on here where doors may only be knocked on with three weeks written notice

I swear in’s only on MN that people don’t answer their front door. Nobody I know IRL would ignore someone at the door.

I'd always just open a window and shout hello.

Get a video doorbell. You won't have to guess who's there.

Why would you not just answer? Why post on mumsnet? It's not like we can tell you who it is.
It really isn't normal to have this kind of reaction to someone knocking on the door.

Open an upstairs window and shout down. They'll have to look up and you can see their face. Ask them what they want and, on the basis of the information you can decide whether to open the door or not.
