The girl done good 😡

The above drives me bonkers!

Should be - 'Clare (or whoever) did really well'

Seriously? It's just a jokey colloquial expression.

Ducksinthebath · 13/12/2023 13:15

A relative uses an exclamation mark instead of a question mark.

Are you going to the shops! What time is your train!

It really isn't being pedantic at all.
I am pretty easy going about spelling mistakes, punctuation mistakes , missing apostrophes etc but writing of instead of have is just plain wrong.

I think pedantry should be recognised as a health condition tbh.

When I see "would/could/should of" it kind of sets my teeth on edge and sends a shudder down my spine, while my inner pedant screams "Conjugate the verb "to of" then, why don't you?".

I've learned to live with "different to", split infinitives and incorrect use or lack of apostrophes, but I can't stop being irritated this one.

Someone in my wider family uses question marks in place of exclamation marks, or even full stops.

Everything is phrased as a question?

Goatymum · 13/12/2023 13:18

I cant bear it 😂

Wishimaywishimight · 13/12/2023 13:20

I see it over and over and over, would love some rest bite from it.

Do you think we could set them up as a couple? They might neutralise one another.

Sorry, my mistake. Do you think we could set them up as a couple! They might neutralise each other?

Clarinet1 · 13/12/2023 13:21

It makes me never want to step foot on MN again!

No, no, no, no. The offenders will not look there. I feel the OP's pain. We need them to see this post. It's a good thing to clear this up once and for all and use the right words.

It's far more common for people to use a question mark at the end of a sentence unnecessarily, I find.

StoodySmithereens · 13/12/2023 13:35

This happens a lot on here !

There’s no space!

Toucanfusingforme · 13/12/2023 13:43

So happy to no their are sew many other pedants still in existence, not all off on rest bite.
The grammar police are my tribe. Proud to be a pedant.😄

Bongosbanjo · 13/12/2023 13:48

Saw a new one today, ordinance instead of audience.

FestiveFruitloop · 13/12/2023 13:49

I'm sure some people are wishing we'd all be quite now and stop being pendants.

Hell no, keep them apart they might form a tribe or breed.

Bluetrews25 · 13/12/2023 13:57

It drive's me mad when people make these mistake's.

threecupsofteaminimum · 13/12/2023 13:58

So long as your not loosing weight or having another thing coming Confused

Tabitha005 · 13/12/2023 14:00

Our local Facebook page is a hotbed of appalling grammar, poor spelling, and constant adverts for cut-price aesthetic treatments. The first two of those things aren't necessarily exclusive to the third but there's a distinct trend.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/12/2023 14:02

I think they should reign it in.
