Have you ever won anything decent?

Obvious one would be the lottery, but I'm also curious about things like 'make me a winner'/cash register or similar on the radio, BOTB/similar raffles/magic freebies etc

My mum once won pink concert tickets and £3000, both on the radio (separate giveaways years apart), I've never been lucky sadly 🤣

Purely being nosy, I also wonder what the average odds are for the radio, I've always thought it must be better than the lottery

I won a competition on MN for tickets to Frameless in London. That was very cool.

About £140 I think it was on the lottery (whatever four balls is)

Some small prizes in the school raffle, that’s about it.

renomeno · 11/11/2024 08:26

@AKAanothername my friends are S & C, would be funny if it was the same people! But I remember the newspaper ran that competition for a few years in a row... pretty sure she only entered it as an experiment, as a college tutor suggested the odds are pretty good, as not many people can be bothered to collect the tokens etc!

okydokethen · 11/11/2024 08:36

My son won a mountain of Lego at nursery - it's got years of use.
I just want to win loads of money tbh.

lashy · 11/11/2024 08:46

£1900 on the National Lottery in 2007, one week before Christmas (5 numbers).

A Fortnum and Mason Easter hamper in 2021 via work/HASSRA.

My Son won a bundle of Thunderbird action figures and vehicles a few years ago in a kids magazine competition (like Take a Break for Kids) - first and only time entered.

Several other wins over the years, though all relatively small items.

£1000 on an online scratch card
On two separate draws A Glenlivet limited reserve whiskey which was worth £100 - that was ten years ago and a couple of months ago this https://www.whiskyshop.com/glenlivet-spectra. Won't be opening that until I got a new job

As teen, Coca Cola had instant win promotion of hi-fi systems, Discman and CDs. I won both a Discman and a CD of my choice. Think there were 250 Discmans and 5000 CDs

KimberleyClark · 11/11/2024 08:48

A Marks & Spencer Christmas hamper. That was over 30 years ago. Not won anything decent since.

Blushingm · 11/11/2024 08:51

I won 1 ticket to a Man U game
Rock climbing lessons - use within 3 months and I was 4 months pregnant
£90 on a radio phone in

Yes, several amazing holidays, including all inclusive at a Caribbean resort, a Caribbean cruise separate to that, lots of short haul trips, then various tickets for sport or shows or films, plus some meet and greets with sports heroes and performers…

Auburngal · 11/11/2024 08:56

Another decent prize I won was at a nearby village's Christmas tree festival. It has only about a population of 470. They seem to get decent sponsors for the raffle prizes. I won a case of 9 bottles of wine, including champagne. Looked online and the wine was worth £15 on average and £50 for the champagne. £170 worth of wine went down very well.

When I was 15 and on my first day as a Saturday girl at Tesco I was given a raffle ticket in my pay packet. The following Saturday I arrived for work and was told I'd won the main prize which was a black and white portable TV. I was over the moon. It was a £50 TV and my pay was £10 a day then.

DH won £12k on a TV game show and another time a one week holiday to LA with virgin radio. He also won an iPad in one of those competitions where everyone puts a business card in a jar.

Mumlife871 · 11/11/2024 09:11

I was on holiday, we were in New Jersey for a wedding, forgot my make up brushes so went to the local mall. A make up brand was having a grand opening of their new shop, I walked in and was given a ticket for a prize at the till. When paying I didn’t think anything but the woman asked for my ticket. She opened it and screamed 🤣 I had won a brand new top of the range iPad Pro with all the accessories. I’ve never woman anything before! I couldn’t believe it. Still use it to this day!!

Scrumbleton · 11/11/2024 09:31

I won £350 on the premium bonds and 3 nights B&B in a hotel last week. Other than that I've only ever won 2 bottles of whisky which I donated to the village raffle.

Helpfullright · 11/11/2024 09:33

Met the original gladiators in a private day at Camelot, it was the competition in the sticker book. Showing my age now!

No, different person, mine won the flat in Battersea, it was an Evening Standard competition.

Feelingstrange2 · 11/11/2024 11:04

£25k on the premium bonds.

N1C · 11/11/2024 11:44

I won an Arsenal shirt 3 years ago that was signed by the entire team. However nobody in my family support Arsenal, including me. Nonetheless, we framed it and decided to keep it Smile

FastFood · 11/11/2024 11:49

I won a clock powered by potatoes when I was at school in 1988.
A clock. powered. by potatoes.

Have you ever won anything decent?
FlorbelaEspanca · 11/11/2024 12:54

Never anything big: once a box of biscuits, several times books. In the case of the books a bit of a fluke: once it happened at a concert held at my school when I'd only just left the school. My ticket didn't come up, but my former maths teacher, who'd had to go early, gave me hers, one of which came up. The other times I've won books were in circumstances where there was a low ratio of prizes to punters.

But many years ago my primary school summer fete had a Dr Who theme. The first prize in the raffle was a life-size dalek, and my sister won it. It was on castors: we wheeled it home between us, and every time we went over a kerb one of the castors would drop off and have to be jammed back into position. Then when we got it home my mum refused to have it in the house, or in the garden, so we had to keep it outside the front door.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/11/2024 12:57

I won a years supply of Cadbury chocolate once. One bar a day, they gave vouchers. You could use as many as you wanted at the same time. But only dairy milk, whole nut or fruit and nut.
Won some shite British Knights orange trainers once.
Tickets to the VIP section at a Mark Ronson gig. I gave that one away!
The most money I ever won was £200 in a quiz in the Mirror newspaper. I've only betted about five times but first bet I put on a horse I won a fiver. Lol.

IsLarryFromSomething · 11/11/2024 13:07

I once won plane tickets! It was at the US Open 15 years ago.

DaylightTreachery · 11/11/2024 13:10

OP, I keep misreading your title as ‘Have you ever WORN anything decent?’and was puzzled at the length of the thread. I came here expecting it to be endless sarky posts about ‘No, I only ever go to the office in stockings and basques’…😀

Lobelia123 · 11/11/2024 13:58

500 pounds on the lottery, and a tablet in the office draw - which was great. My dad keeps telling me to keep playing, when I win Im going to win big :) The eternal optimist!

WoollyRosebud · 11/11/2024 18:13

I'm channelling my inner 1970s teen with my latest win of a couple of months ago, leopard print trousers, skirt and shirt

Mountainhowl · 11/11/2024 18:30

I had forgotten about this thread, loving the potato clock!

I can now add another win! Last Feb I won a Nintendo switch bundle on a raffle website, my eldest wanted a switch lite for his birthday and i thought it was worth a shot. It's one of those companies that does the live draw on FB and I started watching part way through and saw my name on the scrolling winners thing! They then offered me the bundle or a cash alternative, I took the cash as both my kids have March birthdays and that cash enabled me to buy a switch lite bundle plus all their other birthday presents!
