Have you ever won anything decent?

Obvious one would be the lottery, but I'm also curious about things like 'make me a winner'/cash register or similar on the radio, BOTB/similar raffles/magic freebies etc

My mum once won pink concert tickets and £3000, both on the radio (separate giveaways years apart), I've never been lucky sadly 🤣

Purely being nosy, I also wonder what the average odds are for the radio, I've always thought it must be better than the lottery

I won a ski trip through the primary school raffle. I never actually got to go on it, Covid happened. It was all a bit too much hard work as well, I had to chase the person donating the 'prize' through the school. I then had to meet him in a coffee shop a couple of weeks later as he wouldn't tell me over the phone how I could book the trip. It also had to be on certain dates of his choosing and he wouldn't tell me when the dates were so that I could book leave. I keep an eye on the school raffle every year in case he offers the prize again so that I can warn the school. It seems too petty to tell them that I didn't receive a ski trip, and it's not their fault.

I never win anything and then last summer I won festival tickets and tickets to see Robbie Williams on the Sky Go app.

Curlyshabtree · 10/12/2023 16:27

I once won a frozen chicken in a raffle. Don’t think that qualifies as decent!!

Offcom · 10/12/2023 16:32

This is such a nice thread, I especially like @Eminybob’s answer. I’m inspired to go and enter something now.

I love the feeling of being lucky so much. I think I’d be more delighted to win a pound on the Octopus Energy wheel spin thing than £10 on a scratch card just because it seems luckier 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bireadwhatiread · 10/12/2023 16:32

Never won over £20. No my talent seems to be bringing other people good luck. Eg gave numbers to someone who won £500. Got someone a foot in a door to a brilliant career. Gave someone an idea they turned into a successful business. Things like this happen so much to me. Obviously I am glad that people are lucky around me. 😕

12 years ago on a TV show I one €68,000 (about £58, 000 I think).
Have won a watch for hubby worth about €500, a bracelet worth about €200, a couple of hampers here and there. Tickets to see Michael Bublé.

JaxiiTaxii · 10/12/2023 16:34

I won the cost if our new TV back through a Currys promotion. £1000 so we were over the moon.

Ive won a few running things through 'like and follow' instagram giveaways - very swish running trainers (sold them), a hydration vest and a running bum bag.

I do consider myself a very lucky person.

Bireadwhatiread · 10/12/2023 16:36

Also just played the lottery for a few weeks. Nothing. 😕

Sandiegodreaming · 10/12/2023 16:38

Loads of amazing prizes including holidays, trips to big events. Used to enter lots of competitions.

ivfbabymomma1 · 10/12/2023 16:39

I won a £2000 Gucci bag

BCBird · 10/12/2023 16:39

200 pound in staff raffle. Was chuffed as had not got much money. Paid for a new shower. Mom once won scuba diving experience on a raffle. Heavy smoker who could not swim😂

Simonjt · 10/12/2023 16:41

We recently won return flights to new zealand, so we’re in the process of booking our ‘free’ holiday, while it will still be expensive, not having to pay for flights means we’ll actually be able to afford to do. Very excited.

SocksAndTheCity · 10/12/2023 16:42

I once won £64 on the Octopus spin the wheel; nothing ever before or since despite being with them for years.

The best thing I've won is definitely not on the scale of most of these, but I won a Sodastream in a prize draw about five years ago and I still use it every day Xmas Smile

Tiffany88 · 10/12/2023 16:43

I won a silver cross pram and set up I also won a portrait tattoo

PrimalOwl10 · 10/12/2023 16:44

My dh won tickets to a euro football match with flights and hotel paid for, he also won a sound bar and a go pro camera in a competition on the radio, he also won 500 pounds on the radio.

Owlcat42 · 10/12/2023 16:44

A long weekend in LA, flights to Japan, and a big TV/DVD and speakers combo - the later just after I’d bought a flat and was really broke.

These were all some years ago when it seemed like the audience for online competitions was a lot smaller.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/12/2023 16:45

I won a holiday to Egypt. I had to write a limerick for Barclays to publicise the new fangled idea that was Debit cards. That will tell you how long ago it was.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/12/2023 16:48

I won a book token for an art competition when I was about 8 or 9 😂

And when I was in my 20s I won two Virgin Atlantic flights to New York in my work raffle. I never used them as I was very pregnant when I won them, my baby was born quite ill, and needing heart surgery and they 'expired' after 6 months 🤷‍♀️

renomeno · 10/12/2023 16:50

I know of someone who won a flat in a newspaper competition... set them up for life!

ANightingale · 10/12/2023 16:51

Singsonggsu · 10/12/2023 15:50

I won a Phil Collins LP, No Jacket Required, in 1985 I think it was! Nothing before or since 😅

Was the second prize two Phil Collins LPs? Grin

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/12/2023 16:52

Oh, just remembered, I won a Twiggy LP in a competition in Jackie when I was about 12 or 13 😂

GenerousGardener · 10/12/2023 16:52

I won a Ford Street Ka in a Kelloggs competition, then won 10k one the viewer phone in on Deal or No Deal. Both of these helped me and DH afford a bigger house.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/12/2023 16:53

A Kylie Minogue calender from a Daily Express comp in the early 90s.

PencilsInSpace · 10/12/2023 16:58

A really good Dundee cake in a guess the weight competition at a school fete.

KittensandPerverts · 10/12/2023 17:00

Yes as I enter competitions regularly as a hobby. However, nothing like with the regularity I had 20 years ago before everybody got onto it...
