Obvious one would be the lottery, but I'm also curious about things like 'make me a winner'/cash register or similar on the radio, BOTB/similar raffles/magic freebies etc

My mum once won pink concert tickets and £3000, both on the radio (separate giveaways years apart), I've never been lucky sadly 🤣

Purely being nosy, I also wonder what the average odds are for the radio, I've always thought it must be better than the lottery

Many many years ago when I was 18, Holstein Pils had a ‘peel to win’ promo on their beer bottles. Top prize was tickets to the Holstein Indie party in London with headliners Pop goes the weasel. I don’t like beer (or Indie music or PGTW 😂) but me and my bestie spent the afternoon at the rugby club chugging the vile stuff until it happened - we peeled the label and won!

My sister won a year's supply of a Choc Dips, must have been when they first came out.

If you've ever wondered how winning a year's supply of something works, eg 52 vouchers to claim one a week perhaps - oh no. They all turned up at once, lots of trays of them piled on a pallet, and we had to keep them in the shed because there was no room in the house. It must have been one a day type amount.

ItsMyPartyParty · 10/12/2023 17:10

I won a car a few years ago. Apparently there were 80,000 entries!

Got in to entering competitions after that. Have won maybe a dozen since then - £1,000 of baby stuff was the next biggest, then store vouchers, art prints, etc.

StrawberryWater · 10/12/2023 17:11

I won a few art competitions as a kid. Mostly the prizes were art equipment or vouchers for art supplies. The best was a Barbie and tons of accessories though. It was great. My dad didn't want me to pick it up as he hated Barbie but my mum went with me to pick it up. My older sisters were really jealous and broke her after a few weeks I was devastated as they wouldn't replace it.

As an adult I think the most I've won is about £30 on the lottery. That was a few weeks ago.

aintnospringchicken · 10/12/2023 17:12

I won a VHS video recorder many years ago.
I've also won cook books and most recently a tennis racquet.
Never been lucky enough to win a holiday or a car

I never usually win anything but last week I won £500, later the same day my washer broke!

Ha, I won £250 on the premium bonds this month and then my car broke down and that's how much the car cost to be fixed 🙃

My aunt won a trip on the Orient Express to Venice and two nights there, took my DM. They had a great time but had to face the wrath of the third sister when they came home as she was left out. Shouldn’t have said Venice smelled and was dirty should she.

i won £500 to spend at an antique fair many years ago. Bought two paintings there which are worth considerably more now. My first iPod which was a ‘Sun’ competition. Still have it. Lots of small things, I do online comps when I remember but they get loads of entries. Lovely warm Christmas jumper a couple of years ago from one of those.

Oh, and an IKEA shark from a MN competition a few years ago.

crackfoxy · 10/12/2023 17:16

Live 8 tickets via a text comp. Couldn't go as was 9 months pregnant so DH went with a mate

Haha. I won a years supply of Alka Seltzer. Yep got that all at once too. Twelve boxes

LeilaDarling · 10/12/2023 17:16

Not me personally but two of my friends both won on the lottery: one £80k and the other £60k!

Skyblue92 · 10/12/2023 17:17

parents won £20,000 on the lottery once, I've won vouchers for a hairdressers in a raffle and a camera on nickelodeon when I was younger. My husband won a cocktail set yesterday in a raffle and his step sister won tickets to little mix on the radio.

My husband won us an all inclusive skiing holiday for a week from a Terry Wogan phone in!

StrawberryWater · 10/12/2023 17:20

Oh actually I have won something as an adult. I won some tickets for an England Cricket match but it was really poorly organised and the tickets were for the fifth day. There was no play because of horrendous rain. I had to pay for my own travel and hotel and they didn't even bother compensating for the lack of cricket. Awful.

Oh and I took my sister and she refused to leave the hotel room to look around the city (Leeds so plenty of nice places to visit and places to eat) so we ended up having breakfast, lunch and dinner from the grotty petrol station next door. I was absolutely livid.

Roselilly36 · 10/12/2023 17:20

Holiday to Canada, Toronto & Niagara Falls, weekend away to Windsor, theme park tickets, a Wii.

DragonMama3 · 10/12/2023 17:22

Free tickets to see Toploader.

Bumbleebee1 · 10/12/2023 17:30

Only premium bonds, usually about 200 a month so its welcome. friend visiting from colombia bought a scratch card and won £19000. it enabled him to buy a 3 bed flat in a complex for his family so was amazing for him.

Bookworm12345 · 10/12/2023 17:32

I won tickets in a radio competition to see Showaddywaddy.
First prize, not booby prize 😂

MargaritaThyme · 10/12/2023 17:40

The best thing I ever won was a day trip to the Belgian Grand Prix. It consisted of seats on a chartered flight there & back plus race tickets & a grandstand seat. The weather was great, which never a given at the Spa circuit.

Apart from that, I won £150 on the lottery around 25 years ago, when that was a nice amount, rather than the price of a week’s groceries… I put it toward the cost of a weekend in London.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 10/12/2023 17:49

Trip to Australia
Holiday to DLP
Games bundle with handsets/PS3
Trip to Valencia
The odd £50 on premium bonds
Years supply of benefit brow products
Years supply of urban decay 24 hour setting spray
And I'm off to Madeira in January courtesy of the independent

That's over 10 years and there's a few little prizes here and there as well.

Rottenapples · 10/12/2023 17:50

I’ve won some blue Peter badges and book vouchers.

but the best prize I’ve ever witnessed was quite recently. My DH won a semi-serious football tournament and and we won a 4 night stay in a really high end all inclusive Red Sea resort ! I’ve never been on any holiday of the sort and it was worth about £5000 total!!

Oh and a ski trip to Austria. Took DS1 and he loved it.

ArsetoChristmas · 10/12/2023 17:52

No. I'm convinced most contests are fixes, especially social media ones. I'm friends with a few influencer/bloggers, last year we had a trial and entered the same contests as each other. They won a lot, not even small items full on big ticket items like holidays that obviously got shared on the socials. Me, with my private accounts, not a bean.

Workworkandmoreworknow · 10/12/2023 17:53

Weekend in a lovely cottage on the edge of Sherwood Forest. Couple of times I’ve had small wins like £100 Tesco giftcard or £100 in a bank account.

Skyblue92 · 10/12/2023 17:54

oh forgot to add won £50 gift card for the hungry horse pub chain by just booking a table during the six nations and going to watch it/have food
