To feel queasy every time MIL says...

We drink alternative milk in our house as we prefer the taste. The kids drink oat, almond and soya milk when at home and don't know any different.

When we are at MIL's house, she always offers the kids a glass of cows milk (not sure why) and she calls it "granny's milk".

AIBU to feel queasy every time she says "Who wants some of Granny's milk?" 😅(Can't find a vomit emoji)

@MommaTonda - I don’t blame you! It’s very Little Britain-esque …but hilarious 🤣

idontlikealdi · 06/12/2023 16:50

Ah my grandad was a dairy farmer and granny always asked if we wanted granny's milk. Hot, fresh out of the cow, steaming milk - no thanks granny!

Vasilevich · 06/12/2023 16:51

It wouldn't have occurred to me until you said it, but now you have, yes. And I can't unthink it!

PerspiringElizabeth · 06/12/2023 16:54

YANBU that is awful! 😂

Yes, frequently!

@MommaTonda I literally exploded at “ Granny’s milk”🤣
One can imagine Granny expressing like mad 🥛 to make Granny’s Milk.

Son and his GF only use oat milk.
It takes a little bit of getting used to, but isn’t too bad .

MommaTonda · 06/12/2023 16:55

Glad it's not just me that thinks it's vomit inducing 😂

YADNBU.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/12/2023 16:56

This is the kind of thing my MIL comes out with and it always makes me vaguely queasy too

trunkler · 06/12/2023 16:58

I started to add the word cow's to milk when offered to Ds1 as I was breastfeeding Ds2 and when I said do you want some milk he looked at my boobs a little puzzled, so I qualified it with cow's milk from the fridge and explained Mummy's milk was for the baby. It still makes me laugh thinking about his little face wondering what the hell was happening. Grin

So yes, Granny's milk is a little off putting.

Definitely not😂
I’m still laughing about it now!
I can just imagine her saying it , too- trying to undermine you!

Why the heck can’t she call it “ Cow’s milk”

In France as a kid i detested “ French milk” as it had a different taste.
Parents once made me go to a local French farm on holiday and buy milk from the farmers wife

The old lady was heating milk in a pan and poured it into a bottle and blew the bubbles off the top.
I didn’t use any after seeing that.
🤢

Vasilevich · 06/12/2023 17:05

Now I've actually watched the Little Britain YT video I posted...annoyingly (or should I be pleased about that?) it cuts off before granny has to step in 😳

Yes, that is quite an unpleasant image she is conjuring up!

BeeDavis · 06/12/2023 17:08

Not something I could get worked up over tbh some MILs can’t do anything right soooo 🙃

oakleaffy · 06/12/2023 17:09

Who are the people voting YABU?

Grannies?
😂 🥛

Go no contact immediately. She is narcissistic. Or abusive. Or overstepping . Or enmeshed. Or something. Or possibly just using a perfectly normal phrase- we have Dad's milk in this house. Nobody gags.🤔

DAD'S MILK sounds even worse. WAY worse in fact.

I’m the only one who drinks oat milk in our house. Everyone calls it ‘Mum’s milk’… 😬

Maybe as it’s not offered as “ Would you like Mummy’s Milk?” to a visitor ?😂

Ibizabar · 06/12/2023 17:26

Not something that would make me feel queasy, no. Nor would I start yet another MiL bashing thread on MN about it.

Newsenmum · 06/12/2023 17:30

Why oh why doesn’t she call it cow’s milk? 🤢

Redebs · 06/12/2023 17:31

We used to call breastmilk 'duddoo', which is Urdu for 'milk' and used the English word when referring to cows milk. No reason; it just happened that way.

When my eldest daughter was around three years old, one of her Urdu-speaking aunties offered her a drink and was surprised at her horrified expression!
