To feel queasy every time MIL says...

MommaTonda · 06/12/2023 16:47

We drink alternative milk in our house as we prefer the taste. The kids drink oat, almond and soya milk when at home and don't know any different.

When we are at MIL's house, she always offers the kids a glass of cows milk (not sure why) and she calls it "granny's milk".

AIBU to feel queasy every time she says "Who wants some of Granny's milk?" 😅(Can't find a vomit emoji)

Of course, she could just call it "milk". It's alluding to being her breast milk otherwise 🤢

If she desperately needed to she could call it "cows'".

No she isn't. She's calling it the milk she uses in her house.

Stellastag · 07/12/2023 20:47

It’s funny as really you’re drinking nut juice!! And your grossed out by the sound of her saying grannies milk 😆. Next ask your DH if he wants some nut juice went you offer him his almond milk/juice

keffie12 · 07/12/2023 23:31

It conjured up some images I wish it hadn't. Nanny's milk is just no, just no, just no. I'm a nana so it's not an age thing either

If I heard anyone talking about Nanny's milk I'd probably presume they meant goats' milk - like Nannycare formula.

Yes, one of my images was of nanny milking a goat, too, amongst others

What a ridiculous post! 🙄
I cannot believe that so many are agreeing with OP..
The mind boggles that OP has nothing better to present as a problem and the majority are wasting their time replying - and AGREEING with her! .. Duh ..

Mardyybum · 08/12/2023 00:25

Not quite the same but it always makes me gag when my Gran asks to ‘nurse’ my baby 🤢😂 obviously she means hold but I don’t know why she can’t just say hold/cuddle/anything but nurse 😂

thenumberseven · 08/12/2023 01:41

If it isn't dairy it isn't milk , It hasn't been milked
It's drink as in oats drink , almond drink , soy drink
Not milk

Zocola · 08/12/2023 02:35

Granny with Granny's milk here👋... i have a prolactinoma and lactate 🙄bitty bitty🙄!

CurlewKate · 08/12/2023 03:19

@jannier "Just tell her it sounds like she's offering her breast milk."

That's a good idea. Absolutely fine to upset her and accuse her of something we universally on this thread see as pretty unpleasant for using quite usual form of words.....

Are you offended by coconut milk too? What about peanut butter?

😆 ''Nurse''...I see that word as meaning to 'cuddle' or take care of lovingly.. not to actually breastfeed.

''Nut juice'' - that sounds really gross...but heck, this thread has made me laugh 😆. This reminds me...am staying with relatives tonight who are vegan, so it's oat milk in coffee- will take my own Coffee Mate!

Ladymeade · 08/12/2023 09:42

If I were being uncharitable, I would say she's quietly disapproving and wanting to make sure her grandchildren have cow's milk... I agree with you - would make me want to 🤮

Ilovečolić · 08/12/2023 10:39

It does conjure up nanny offering breast milk 😂 however I’m surprised she’s giving the kids cows milk if she knows it’s not what they drink ?

The scene in Little Britain still makes me shiver 🤮

MommaTonda · 08/12/2023 10:46

Wow, I really wasn't expecting so many comments.

@Cocoda I didn't post it as a 'problem'. It was a light-hearted post as I found it funny, as did lots of other people. I'm really glad I posted. I have giggled a lot reading some of these replies. And yes, it is childish.

I do think it's important to giggle at silly things in life. It would be a dull place otherwise.

Thank you to all of the funny replies, I have laughed a lot! I do hope MIL keeps calling the cows breastmilk "granny's milk" and I will also start to call my almond milk "nut juice" going forward👌

Completely agree..This thread has really made me laugh 😆
It is funny because one absolutely understand the ''Power play'' that goes on in families- The MIL wanting to have Grannies milk to trump your ''non dairy'' choices.

I bet next time she utters the phrase, you will giggle anew.

As for the Daddy's Nut Juice'' - 🧃 that sounds even worse!

I think you dislike your MIL. I may be wrong but it comes across like that.

Edited

You must have seen some of my other posts! But no. I ADORE my MIL. I don't know how I would navigate being a parent without her. I post about her on here because she thinks differently to me and I sometimes need advice on how to navigate some of her decisions. This is BECAUSE I don't want to upset her, because she means so much to me.

This post was meant to be light-hearted however. If I told her that saying "granny's milk" sounds like she means her breastmilk, she would definitely laugh 😊

For Goodness sake when will this stop ! The woman is just saying Granny drinks Cows milk so it’s Granny Milk …
. Let’s just say she calls the plant milk yous drink Mammy’s Milk I suppose that would be wrong too .
For Goodness sake stop twisting things around and get a life …. She means no harm .

When my children were newborn a relative would ask if they could nurse the baby meaning have a hold/ cuddle! Nowt as funny as folk eh?

YourWinter · 08/12/2023 14:13

I use dairy milk, always organic, usually semi-skimmed, occasionally whole milk. DGS7 always asks for a glass of milk when he’s here. DD only buys oat, almond or soya milk, although she uses dairy butter, cream, yogurt and cheese, but DGS7 only has milk at home in smoothies or porridge.

I don’t think I’ve ever made a distinction to him, when I ask if he’d like a drink here he usually asks for water AND a glass of milk. I wouldn’t refer to it as anything other than just “milk”, though he obviously knows the bottle looks different from the cartons in the fridge at home.

My Mum used to use ‘nurse’ like this. I noticed other older people didn’t bat an eyelid so ‘nurse’ obviously doesn’t mean ‘breastfeed’ to everyone.

pigsDOfly · 08/12/2023 14:22

It's just milk they could, if they wanted, have at granny's house.

Unless granny is popping out her boobs when she's making the offer, feeling queasy seems like a massive over reaction to a child being offered a glass of milk.

ButterCupPie · 08/12/2023 14:28

I'd feel so much more queasy about 'grandpa's milk', but maybe that's just me?
