Do you have a TV in your bedroom?

We have a TV in our room but I never watch it, I'd prefer it wasn't there. Oh thinks I'm the only person in the world who doesn't watch TV in bed. Anyone else not have a TV in the bedroom?

Yes but I have watched tv on it maybe six times in the last year.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/12/2023 05:28

I should add that it’s in the bedroom because I haven’t got space for it downstairs.

sashh · 05/12/2023 05:49

I do but because of health problems I might be in bed all day.

ScarlettSunset · 05/12/2023 05:52

No.
There's no TVs in any bedrooms here.
To be fair, I don't really watch very much TV anyway and I find it a lot more comfortable sitting on the sofa if I do want to watch something.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 05/12/2023 06:01

No, no TVs at all upstairs.

NonanteNeuf · 05/12/2023 06:03

Only one TV in the living room.

We've never had a TV in a bedroom. None of my family do either.

SquashPenguin · 05/12/2023 06:03

Yep. I sleep with it on, can’t sleep without it.

Dogcatmousecat · 05/12/2023 06:06

No.Well technically yes..its broken, never watched it but is still there !
Struggle to find anything decent to watch TBH.

Zanatdy · 05/12/2023 06:08

Yes, love watching TV in bed. I much prefer sitting under my duvet to watch TV or browse the web than on the sofa

TerrorAustralis · 05/12/2023 06:10

DH is from a TV always on family. As in, if you are home and awake, the TV is on. He can also fall asleep in front of the TV. So if we had a TV in the bedroom he would have it on constantly.

I only watch TV when I want to watch something and not have on in the background. I also can’t fall asleep with it on (can’t listen to music or podcasts to go to sleep either). If we had one in the bedroom I would never get any sleep.

EDITED: I had covid recently so was isolating in the bedroom. I just watched Netflix on my laptop, but it’s the first time I’ve done that.

Wendyspotatopeeler · 05/12/2023 06:39

Yes but it's quite old in Smart TV years and only has a few apps that work so I generally don't bother.
DH uses it more, I prefer the big TV downstairs.

OhNoOhNo · 05/12/2023 06:51

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I have a TV and a Sky Q Mini in our bedroom.

I put it on whilst I’m getting ready in the morning or ironing or reorganising wardrobes and drawers, as I like to have something on in the background.

It very rarely comes on at night/bedtime and has never affected my sleep.

Mamadothehump · 05/12/2023 06:58

Yes we do. I mainly watch it if DH is watching the footy of an evening or if I'm tired but want to finish watching something so I'll watch in bed then don't have to move again before going to sleep. Mind you, we clearly are a TV loving family as I've just counted and we have 8!!!! All get used but certainly not everyday!

User136921 · 05/12/2023 06:58

We have a Sky box in the bedroom, we are still on the old Sky+HD boxes as we don't want Sky Q, we don't have an aerial in the bedroom so everything is through Sky, Apple TV box or the apps on the TV.

The snobbery is always funny as soon as the word telly is mentioned, but never laptops or tablets being used for exactly the same thing. Some people are just so extra.

Not sure there has been much snobbery on here, folks either do or don’t have one. But to be honest, if I was the sort to want to watch tv in bed, I would get a tv in there, not watch it on my laptop or iPad. If I’m going to watch tv then I prefer to do it on an actual tv , ie large screen. Just personal preference.

SpongeBob2022 · 05/12/2023 07:42

I think there is some snobbery around TVs in bedrooms. So you'll get a disproportionate number of replies saying 'of course not'.

There's no way my parents would have a TV in their bedroom and I didnt have one growing up. But I wouldn't be without one these days...I love snuggling up watching something before bed and I'd never go back to sitting downstairs in the evening now.

I don't allow DS to have one yet. It's like I've overcome one level of snobbery but haven't quite reached the next level yet!

I’m not sure not having a tv in the bedroom and not liking it, is snobbery, more personal taste. I can’t quite grasp the thought process of if you don’t like it or want it you must be a snob.

I can’t see anyone saying oh it’s so tacky, or chav, or whatever to have a tv in your bedroom, which would support your statement, more people just don’t, as they don’t like it as they don’t watch enough tv, worried about sleep hygiene , or prefer to keep their bedrooms as just a place to sleep etc,

that’s not snobbery, it’s just taste and preference.

User136921 · 05/12/2023 08:11

I don't think I would want to watch TV on my iPad, that's what I do when we go away in the caravan, not in the comfort of my own home

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/12/2023 08:13

Further point is that I don’t watch tv in bed, I have an armchair in my bedroom to sit in if I want to watch telly.

I actually agree with this. I’m not remotely snobby about a tv in the bedroom, and can’t imagine someone being so. But I’d not want to sit and watch tv on an iPad or laptop, that’s a bit student bedsit for me, so am a bit snobby about that.

mynewusername2023 · 05/12/2023 08:17

Yes we have one in both the main bedrooms and I absolutely love it. I watch it every day and normally fall asleep with it on. We wouldn't be without them. We have them mounted to the walls so they don't take up any space.

DustyLee123 · 05/12/2023 08:18

No.

DontGoGran · 05/12/2023 08:22

We have one at the moment as we're expecting our second DD, and with my potentially being very tired and recovering for a few days/a week or so afterwards, it might be nice to sit and watch the TV and feed baby in the comfort of bed rather than going up and down stairs. Other than that, it does live in our bedroom but it basically is a spare sock display unit 🙈

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 05/12/2023 08:24

No. I can watch on my iPad or laptop if I want though
