Seems most people have done theirs already, we are planning to do it this Sunday.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 01/12/2023 11:20

No, I haven't. It will go up around 20th December, I like saving Christmas for Christmas. However, I do have some pretty lights/candles in the windows already, that's because it's winter rather than Christmas.

GetYourBaublesOut · 01/12/2023 11:21

All decs except the main tree this weekend.

Main tree on the 16th so it's fresh (ish) for Christmas Day.

CrunchyCarrot · 01/12/2023 11:27

Not putting one up this year but normally would only do so in the week before Christmas. And would be taken down on NY day!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 01/12/2023 11:28

No we haven't. It's only just December! Although any time after the first Sunday in Advent is ok.

Mid November is silly. But each to their own!

We take ours down NYD too.

Strokethefurrywall · 01/12/2023 11:31

Mine goes up 1 December and comes down 28 December but growing up we'd put tree up around 20th I think, until 12th night.

I prefer putting it up early and getting in the spirit, but bringing down early so I start the new year with a fresh house.

SleepingisanArt · 01/12/2023 11:38

Our goes up somewhere around the 19th and comes down on 2nd January- we started this when the children were young to stop them asking endlessly when is Christmas (thanks TV) but have continued now they are adults with homes of their own. I like the tree but not for a whole month - it gets boring!

Resisterance · 01/12/2023 11:39

Mid December here. Stays until twelfth night. I used to put it up literally in Christmas eve but having kids means I've learnt to extend it a bit but I'm not into the November or first day of December thing. It's not Christmas!

CurlewKate · 01/12/2023 11:45

Me. 21st of December for us.

FeedMeSantiago · 01/12/2023 12:10

Our tradition is to decorate on 1 December. We don't have a real tree, the cat would destroy it.

A lot of people near us have had decorations up since 1 Nov onwards. A few people on my facebook showed pics of their decs in Nov too. Many were just waiting to get Hallowe'en done and dusted first, others waited until after Remembrance Sunday.

When I was a child (90s) I recall a lot of people waited until mid December. One of my friends families waited until Christmas Eve. I know a few people who wait due to having a child with a December birthday and wanting to get that done first.

evtheria · 01/12/2023 12:12

Nope, but we usually buy ours from a local place and I think we have to hurry this year, seems more and more popular every Christmas.

edit: Also know that all of our ‘parent friends’ plus my PiL and SiL have already put theirs up. I’ve seen a few in windows around ours since the middle of November too!

trulyunruly01 · 01/12/2023 12:12

Me, two weeks before Xmas Eve seems the right balance for us, we can enjoy all the 'deck the halls' stuff but don't get to the point of 'get rid of this shit'.

funinthesun19 · 01/12/2023 12:15

I haven’t yet. I’ve usually done it by now but this year I seem to be a combination of drowning in other stuff to do and being really disorganised. Going to do it this weekend if all goes well!

Storynanny1 · 01/12/2023 12:17

I’m old school too! I was an infant teacher so Christmas started on dec 1st at work. I liked waiting til nearly the end of term at home but sometimes it went up about the middle of December.
When eldest ( now 40’s) was at university he looked forward to coming home and seeing it all decorated so we used to do it the day before he arrived.
Now we wait til one grandchild has had their mid December birthday.
I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s with strict religious parents who thought it was “ common” to put it up before the 23rd and “ bad luck for a whole year” if it came down before 12 th night - so I’m not really old old school!

RabbitsRock · 01/12/2023 12:19

Probably buying & decorating it on Sunday.

BrieAndChilli · 01/12/2023 12:20

we always put ours up the first weekend of december - we get a tree straight form the local farm freshly cut and it always lasts until new year and barely sheds any needles. just love the lights and cosy xmas feel. plus so busy all the weekends leading up to xmas i like to get it done.

rainbowsparkle28 · 01/12/2023 12:20

Not yet but like you will be this weekend! 😊🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 01/12/2023 12:24

We're moving house on 15 Dec, so we're not doing it until we've moved. Usually it would've been done either last or this weekend. It feels idd not to be doing it now.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/12/2023 12:49

Most likely next weekend as there will be time then.
I'm a "when I get the chance in December" type, then keep it all up until the 6th.
It's always bleak when it all goes down so the impatient types who rush it all up, then get bored and rush it down irritate me. I see some on fb decreeing getting everything tidy again from Boxing Day who were the earliest to get it all up.

I like to enjoy advent, then Christmas, and celebrate them in their actual time frame, not be bored by the time they actually happen.

Plus when Christmas is done and dusted by New Year, it makes for a tedious second half of the school holidays, and a long January feel even longer.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 01/12/2023 12:50

Lots of grinching on this thread 😂 With a fair spread of Christmas snobbery too.

Although, I'm kind of with those who are a bit baffled by the 'rip it all down on Christmas Night/Boxing Day' types. But that's mostly because I'd leave it up all winter if I could. I don't 'get sick of it' by Dec 27th - or ever really 😊.
The tree will come down on the 6th but I'll probably leave a few lights and bits up until the spring.

Mine's going up this weekend. I always hold out until the first weekend in December at least. To me, December is Christmas season. I'm expecting most of my neighbours to be doing the same.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 01/12/2023 12:51

Nope. And not planning to put one up. I don't do one last year and no one missed it. And I'm sooo glad not to have 'one more thing to do'. Absolute bliss!

IvorTheEngineDriver · 01/12/2023 12:53

No. Goes up next weekend.

Twentypastfour · 01/12/2023 12:54

Seems most people have done theirs already
Who is most? Most of your friends or family in real life or people on social media?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 01/12/2023 12:55

I normally only put mine up the second weekend in Dec. Our living room isn't ready either, need to finish decorating which should be done this weekend.

magicmole · 01/12/2023 12:55

We don't usually put the tree up until around the 15th. We always leave the decorations up until Twelfth Night though as we've got a family birthday right after New Year and want to keep it a bit festive for them. Early January's a bit grim.

Sunday's the start of Advent so I'll put a wreath on the door in the next few days. I do like to have some greenery about the place in the winter.

We used to have a neighbour who would put up her Christmas decorations right after Halloween (November 1st!) but then start dismantling things on Christmas Day itself. Everything's gone by Boxing Day morning.

Her house, her business but I wouldn't want to be looking at a Christmas tree for eight or nine weeks. Three is long enough enough for us.

bakewellbride · 01/12/2023 12:56

We don't do it until mid December
