NC for this one but I promise I’ve been around for a while. Sorry it’s a long one too!

My younger DS (27) told me a few months ago that alongside her corporate job she is a sugar baby. When I questioned it (in a non judge way, just “are you safe” kind of way) she defended it with “it’s fine because I don’t have sex with any of them”.

she has both men and women who regularly buy her lavish gifts, send her money etc.

but this is where I am worried now:

1- she lets them have her actual address and meets up with them. Doesn’t have a PO Box or anything.

2- most of them she has met over social media and is quite quick to let them send her stuff, she meets up with them alone and with friends, but often asks them to send stuff before meeting in person. How does she know they are who they say they are?

3- the big one. she has now quit her job (good for her, she hated it) and moved back in with my parents. In January she is going travelling alone for six months predominantly funded by her main “sugar mama”. What if someone wants something more in return eventually?

I am worried about this going badly somewhere along the line. What if she comes across a weirdo and they have been given my parents address. Her and my parents will be at risk.

my parents don’t know about this they just know about someone who is her “wealthy friend”

I have tried to talk to her but have very little social media presence, and she seems to think I’m really out of touch. According her this is totally normal. It’s not is it?

I’m so worried, I have such a bad feeling about the whole thing.

@CagneyAndLazy, interesting why you think multiple people will be interested in supporting a lavish lifestyle without sexual favours in return.

One or two of them might indeed be interested in just a friendly chat or a date, but most people who pursue this lifestyle would eventually ask for sex.

No one gives free stuff without something in return.

At 27, she is virtually a geriatric in 'sugar baby' terms. I very much doubt there is no sex or strings involved. She is effectively using your parents' real life address as the operational base for her knocking shop, online or otherwise.

It's depressing we live in a time where people think others won't do nice things or give people things unless they get sex in return. This may be a dangerous world in many ways and sex obsessed to a great extent but we can be a bit more glass half full than that, surely?

If they are funding her lifestyle she should use the money wisely to further her education and get a better job, being a sugar baby is not a career and won’t last forever, also friends and family are soon going to find out as there will be too many questions about how her lifestyle is being funded.
I doubt very much that she isn’t having sex with them as you don’t get something for nothing, this would essentially make her a prostitute, you can dress it up as ‘Sugar Baby’ but when you get money for sex it is prostitution

I don’t know about misplaced confidence, but I’m more confident it’s gifts + sex rather than just gifts for the hell of it.

I know a psychotherapist who works as a life coach. Absolutely amazing, resolved something that had been bothering me for over 30 years in a 20 minute telephone call.

Accordingly, I don't find it difficult to imagine that someone with a hectic job, involving lots of travel would be happy to pay a thousand or two a month to have a sympathetic ear to call on, or to have phone-sex with. It might even make them more effective at their job, if they know that they need to generate five or six thousand extra in commission/bonus each month to keep the Sugar Baby in Manolos.

Being a therapist/effective coach is hardly the same as a random who happens to be pretty. Maybe the therapist does some phone work but probably it's mostly 50 min or so Zoom sessions, if they don't do in person sessions. I've had therapy via Zoom and it was ok.

This sort of thing has been going on for millennia and I doubt it will ever go away.
