My sister is a Sugar Baby

NC for this one but I promise I’ve been around for a while. Sorry it’s a long one too!

My younger DS (27) told me a few months ago that alongside her corporate job she is a sugar baby. When I questioned it (in a non judge way, just “are you safe” kind of way) she defended it with “it’s fine because I don’t have sex with any of them”.

she has both men and women who regularly buy her lavish gifts, send her money etc.

but this is where I am worried now:

1- she lets them have her actual address and meets up with them. Doesn’t have a PO Box or anything.

2- most of them she has met over social media and is quite quick to let them send her stuff, she meets up with them alone and with friends, but often asks them to send stuff before meeting in person. How does she know they are who they say they are?

3- the big one. she has now quit her job (good for her, she hated it) and moved back in with my parents. In January she is going travelling alone for six months predominantly funded by her main “sugar mama”. What if someone wants something more in return eventually?

I am worried about this going badly somewhere along the line. What if she comes across a weirdo and they have been given my parents address. Her and my parents will be at risk.

my parents don’t know about this they just know about someone who is her “wealthy friend”

I have tried to talk to her but have very little social media presence, and she seems to think I’m really out of touch. According her this is totally normal. It’s not is it?

I’m so worried, I have such a bad feeling about the whole thing.

My first thought is sex work

my second is drug mule

That makes sense. {Both sex worker and drug mule}
Carrying back something in her luggage.

ManateeFair · 27/11/2023 18:26

I can see why you're worried. I don't think there's anything you can do, though. You've had a conversation with her about safety etc; it's up to her if she listens. You can't stop your adult sister from taking risks.

She is definitely having sex with them, though.

Free travel is likely to be as a drugs mule. This carries the death penalty in some countries. I remember two young Australians being executed in, I think, Malaysia. Your sister sounds naive enough to be used this way. Her ‘fans’ will disappear if she’s arrested.

This was my first thought. If something sounds too good to be true....

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 27/11/2023 18:32

I thought this was going to be an AMA by a sibling to one of the Sugar Babes, 😢.

Albeit a sibling with little regard for outing their fam.

moomoomoo27 · 27/11/2023 18:32

This thread is wild. Everything from she's a drug mule to she has a personality disorder to executions.

Jesus Christ.

You do all know that people pay for Only Fans subscriptions and get f all for it apart from videos and images right (when they could easily watch porn and find images for free)?

If she's genuinely big on Instagram she likely has people who send her gifts and will pay to go out for dinner with her because she's a celebrity to them. She probably sends them a few pics or something.

Doesn't have to be anything that deep.

As to her safety travelling, fundamentally only someone genuinely close to her can say whether she's a sensible person with boundaries, or whether she's hopelessly naive.

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 27/11/2023 18:34

There's no way she's not having sex with these people.

Hardtime · 27/11/2023 18:38

I used to sugar and it's common in the industry to tell loved ones and friends that there's no sex involved, it's also a sort of self cope with alot of girls as they like to feel like it's quite spoiled and glamorous. No matter how attractive you are, there's no free ride - I would be almost certain she is having sex or sending sexual content or providing some type of gratification to these men and women

As a genuine question, do relationships like these fizzle out once a fan has had sex with the sugar- or does it sometimes become a long-term thing?

LimeCheesecake · 27/11/2023 18:42

Sex worker doesn’t have to mean prostitute, it also includes people who pose for /act in porn. Some people prefer porn involving people they know (or think they know).

do raise the issue of people having your parents home address, she shouldn’t be giving out their address as it’s not fair on them when you don’t know who these people are.

On the address front, I remember Michael J Fox talking about a situation when he returned to his house with his wife and kids to find a family picnicking by his swimming pool.
He asked them to leave and as big fans they apparently thought he was extremely unreasonable.

Fionaville · 27/11/2023 18:51

I don't think it is 'normal' She's basically an escort.

LanaL · 27/11/2023 18:53

I think some replies on this thread “ there’s no such thing as free money “ “ they will want sex “ are coming from people who don’t really know anything about it. Plenty of people make money from having financial arrangement - rich men who want to feel ‘powerful’ , men who are probably quite sad and want to feel like they have a connection etc . Plenty of women make money from web cams , pictures , videos - no sex.

However , that’s not to say that she won’t come across someone who will want something more , I think it’s quite dangerous to be giving out her address ( and especially your parents address!) and actually I think your parents have a right to know!

On a side note , how would someone get into this ? Research purposes only 🤣jk x

And my friend too!

😂😂

Mikimoto · 27/11/2023 18:55

And there was me thinking this thread was going to be about The Rubettes!!

Stripperyone · 27/11/2023 18:58

@Bobtheamazinggingerdog I was a sugarbaby for years and never had sex with any of them.

And others-as a PP has said, a lot of people are commenting who know nothing about it. I am a lesbian, there's no goddam way I'd have had sex with any man I had an arrangement with! Not saying it doesn't go on, but saying she absolutely has to be having sex with them is ignorant.

beatrix1234 · 27/11/2023 19:00

@MiniMinn She said “it’s fine because I don’t have sex with any of them”.

😅😂😅

I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

Farmhouse1234 · 27/11/2023 19:03

Is she going to have to carry a few packages on her travels 😵‍💫

MiniMinn · 27/11/2023 16:48

Instagram/dating apps apparently!

This is not as j usual as most of yoj seem to think. Many many people are turned on by being taken advantage of slightly. It’s a cuck thing. It’s really not at all uncommon that no sex is involved in this.
ive attracted loads of people like tris and though no sex is involved I whole
lot of time and effort staying in character is needed.
just saying.

AgnesX · 27/11/2023 19:05

Is she very bright (clever) good looking and bubbly, good personality? I'm just wondering what the attraction is.

Swimaway9 · 27/11/2023 19:05

I was interested enough to Google what is a sugar baby then clicked on 'why you shouldn't be a sugar baby' If I had any doubts as to it not being an innocent agreement this explanation gave me the answer.

tpa · 27/11/2023 19:06

Bluntly, regarding your worries about her coming across a weirdo - I would say that all of the people who give her gifts are weirdos.

Manchester1990 · 27/11/2023 19:07

Don’t be naive, she’s sleeping with them

Charlize43 · 27/11/2023 19:08

I think people like to sugar coat sex work as something like Pretty Woman but the reality is probably a lot more extreme, not to mention that you also risk your life.

Many years ago one of the TV Channels did a documentary on women working in the porn industry and I remember one of the UK women saying that after being approached by an 'older man' as a teenager to be a 'model' then progressing to glamour modelling and then into porn films she was taken to LA where she found the abundance of women trying to get work meant you were vulnerable to be pressurised into only working if you were willing do stuff like double penetration, choked and brutalised through violence, extreme sex, etc. I think she was also raped by the casting director as part of the audition process - this was just part of the course... In the end she returned back to the UK. Did anyone else see this?

DonnaBanana · 27/11/2023 19:09

PostItInABook · 27/11/2023 16:53

Your sister is stupid, immature and pathetic to think this lifestyle is in any way glamorous and sustainable. What is her plan when her looks can no longer carry her through life?

Would you say this to a model, ballerina or sports woman?

SurprisedWithAHorse · 27/11/2023 19:09

Hardtime · 27/11/2023 18:17

People actually selling sex are rarely like their two dimensional representations in film and TV. For some, it's a minor part of their life when they are short of money or are particularly attracted to someone who wants sex with no strings.
The last time I met someone who had sex for money, they were so discreet that it didn't dawn on me and my friend until the following day.
The Suffolk Strangler murdering Ipswich sex-workers was apparently preying on women addicted to Class A drugs. With more carelessness than malice, the police demonstrated their skill and sensitivity at the time:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-suffolk-60127414
Insp Domenic Mann: "We had about 10 females that were down here working on a fairly regular basis. We are happy that we've got it down to about five who are working here sporadically."

Five women had been murdered.

My knowledge of it doesn't come from TV.
