Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

You sound difficult because you keep arguing with people who didn’t agree with you.

btw I’m a brand snob and from your brief to your DH I would not understand what’s so wrong with the gown and slippers 🙈🤷‍♀️ you were too generic
send him the links FFS and next time be more specific and stop moaning, noone can read your mind and your issues with the presents are not obvious

JANEY205 · 19/11/2023 13:33

You are homophobic for suggesting someone is gay for buying their wife a checked dressing gown. The misogynist here is you suggesting only men like plaid? I’ve reported you. Ps I wear plaid all the time and my DH loves it!

No, that’s not what I said. The comment was about the lumberjack look, not plaid. Go back and re-read.

Dont worry OP, I think its hilarious & knew from the start this was lighthearted 🤣
Have you told him yet? Can't wait for the outcome 🤣

The bar is set very low for hilarious it seems.

willWillSmithsmith · 19/11/2023 13:47

The one you’ve ordered is nice but it doesn’t look warm and cosy. I have two dressing gowns, one similar to the Next one from M&S, it’s deep red and velvety and the other more like the Amazon one and I rarely wear the red one as it’s just not warm (it’s more stylish but not cosy).

Anyway it’s good you’ve got the one you like but definitely do specific links next time.

I’ve got a friend who asked her husband for a watch for Christmas. He bought one, wrapped it and put it under the tree. Owing to him having previous for hideous gifts she unwrapped the watch, took it back to the shop and exchanged it for one she would actually wear, wrapped it, put it under the tree and opened it Christmas morning. The husband was none the wiser ie to him a watch was a watch x

That's amazing.

I now send links to my husband as he is terrible at buying presents for me. NO clue whatsoever. I don't really wear watches - but if I decide to wear one, I have an apple watch and a really brilliant Dolce & Gabbana test card watch to choose from. Despite this, my husband bought me a hideous pale pink diamante strap watch one year. I have never worn any pale pink diamante in my life. I still don't understand what he was thinking.

Every year I tell him not to buy me a massive box of Hotel Chocolat and every year one appears.

OP - TK Max have some lovely sheepskin slippers. Mine last about two years with constant wear and I do nip out into the garden in them.

Dishwashersaurous · 19/11/2023 13:54

Honestly it does seem that he's bought what you asked for. A cosy dressing gown and slippers.

If there is a specific thing you want send him a link, or is this a deeper issue than thr presents.

sasamummy · 19/11/2023 13:56

Actually, not a bad choice! Def had worse... You could just accept them and use them as spares. I asked for a onesie and got a huge dressing gown. It's nice but a bit heavy for in the daytime. I prefer my short one for pottering around but wear the other one in winter, when I get an unexpected door delivery or when the other is in the wash. Spare slippers for hols or at a relative's home.

Topseyt123 · 19/11/2023 13:57

I quite like that dressing gown though would be unlikely to actually choose it. The slippers would not be my style as I prefer the type you have shown.

I'd have sent a link if you are really specific about what you want. He isn't psychic.

Dishwashersaurous · 19/11/2023 13:58

The one you've ordered is very nice, but not in anyway could be described as cosy.

Glad it's all sorted now and next year just send links as your description of what you want versus what you want don't really match

SweetBirdsong · 19/11/2023 13:58

I love 'lumberjack' style pyjamas (and shirts.) They actually sell them for women too!!! I know, shocking right! 😆

These are like mine. (I have pyjamas virtually the same as these 2 pairs here, and a shirt the same as the one pictured.)

What a bizarre thing to say about men who like to see these on women @wesurecouldstandgladioli 😂(What you said at 13.07. I'm not repeating it!) Never heard anything so ludicrous.

I’d be getting dd to ask him what’s he’s bought as mums a tad worried he’s not understanding what’s she’s said. Then DD can say, oh no dad, that completely not her thing, then give DH the right links.

OR you just send him links and if he’s wounded because he knows you saw then try and laugh it off together.

Fionaville · 19/11/2023 14:01

Just tell him. Say you looked and they really aren't what you want. I always send the links to slippers and dressing gowns because I'm so specific in what I want. There's nothing wrong with knowing what you like. Just tell him and he can send them straight back. No biggie.

SgtJuneAckland · 19/11/2023 14:17

My gran has that exact dressing gown! The pink one from Next. I can see why he didn't buy that to meet your description.
The checked one wouldn't be something I'd choose for myself but it looks warm and cosy and if someone bought it for me I'd make use of it. Mule slippers are not my thing at all though, so they'd go back whichever colour they came in

Geekynzmum · 19/11/2023 14:18

My DH is very much like yours, if I'm not specific then I get something I don't like. Still haven't forgiven him for the hideous scratchy pink jumper he got me one year.
These days I either show him exactly what I want, send him links or add it to an Amazon wishlist. Worked wonders for my birthday as I actually got stuff I wanted and needed!!! He even shared it with my mum as she's just as bad!!!!

LardoBurrows · 19/11/2023 14:18

@Soshitatgifts
Well done for having the conversation and glad he was ok with it, I laughed when he said "you hate it don't you", he obviously knows you better than you think 😀. I like your choice of dressing gown, especially the length. WRT slippers, Celtic & Co do lovely sheepskin mules and like a pp I keep a pair of crocs by the back door for hanging out the washing and putting out the bins.

SawX · 19/11/2023 14:25

His choices were better than yours.

Isometimeswonder · 19/11/2023 14:26

Did you have a bad experience with a lumberjack OP?
Is it a phobia?
(Ps.. just being light-hearted!!)

Guesswho88 · 19/11/2023 14:29

That dressing gown is smart, I like it.

MassageForLife · 19/11/2023 14:30

I do like the dressing gown you chose, but it's not really a cost warm one - better for spring and autumn than winter imo.

But glad it worked out well with good humour!

Wow, this has escalated! Shock

Anyhoo, @Soshitatgifts I am glad you will get what you prefer now. I also preferred what he got originally though (Sorry!) Blush

It sure did!

don’t apologise, I could send you the link if you like 😉😂

It’s so disappointing and upsetting when money is spent on something you don’t want. Send the links in future, or buy yourself and give them to wrap.

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 14:50

JANEY205 · 19/11/2023 13:14

Being rude about it being from Amazon does make you sound an arse. I prefer the one he picked to the hideous one you ordered from Next 🫣 But then we all wear plaid in this house and love it! Your new gown reminds me of a Victorian housekeeper. I do only wear sheepskin slippers so am with you on that but I find it really childish you keep saying ‘it’s the principle of him needing to click a button.’ It’s obviously not when he did that and then you moaned. If you want something specific you do need to order it yourself. I’d never in a million years order that ugly next dressing gown for anyone, sorry.

I don’t have an issue with it being from Amazon per se, what I had an issue with is that if it doesn’t come from Amazon he doesn’t bother his arse to look anywhere else….anyway, all sorted now (apart from slippers!)

I love what you have ordered.

I also wouldn't call it cosy-I was looking at the M&S Teddy Borg Poncho-that's my idea of cosy!

Well at least you can talk to each other & sort things out-that seems to be a rarity on here!
