Long time user with name change here!

Firstly I KNOW this is a bit of a non problem and I’m being a bit of a brat!

DH and I had a discussion and decided that Christmas would be pared right back this year -absolutely not an issue.
I told him all I wanted was a dressing gown and slippers, and due to previous history was very quite specific about the kind of thing I wanted, and only just stopped short of sending him actual link wish I had now. Basically a cosy but still “nice” dressing gown and fairly structure slippers which I could wear outside, hanging out washing etc-think faux sheepskin mules kind of thing.

He said to me this morning “don’t look at the Amazon account, there are deliveries coming for me”

Being me of COURSE I looked 😳and he’s ordered the most fucking hideous dressing gown, think oversized checked lumberjack shirt, and marshmallow like slippers.

AIBU to give it a couple of days and “innocently” bombard him with links to what I’d actually like? I’m a terrible actress when it comes to opening disappointing presents, and I know that no matter how cold it gets, I won’t be wearing that dressing gown!

You can stop reading at this point if it helps?

You’re right I probably should. It’s like the car crash thread you know you shouldn’t look at but can’t stop yourself.

margotrose · 19/11/2023 12:22

@SlightlyJaded you know most of the clothing in M&S comes from China too, right?

thanksroyalmail · 19/11/2023 12:23

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 12:18

@thanksroyalmail I sound difficult? When I’ve said I’m not fussed about colour/brand etc, I just hate the print-that makes me difficult??

Im glad I don’t live in your world if that’s “difficult”😂

You sound difficult because of how you type and your actions. You clearly have certain expectations but are doing anything aside from be clear about them, and are judging him for not meeting your imaginary standards. At the end of the day, he’s your husband, he clearly doesn’t know what you like or don’t like after all this time. That speaks volumes about your communication

😂😂
I’ve honestly been so ridiculously triggered because it’s as unlike a print that I'd ever wear as you could ever imagine!

I’m taking the replies in a light hearted way, but I think the hungover and grumpy crowd have just got out of their pits😂😂

I would definitely say something and it's not being difficult to have a preference for style or patterns, that's just normal.

If I buy a gift for someone, I'd rather they said if it wasn't their cup of tea so I could exchange than pretended to like it.

Doggymummar · 19/11/2023 12:10

You have no idea of their finances, not everyone can afford the White Company or other expensive alternatives.

Edited

Did you read my original comment properly? I don’t think you did. I’m aware that budget was key.

However, Amazon for clothes? It was nothing but a choice due to not having to make any effort. Don’t delude yourself it was anything other than that.

He could have gone to a shop like Next or M&S, like the OP suggested, and actually look at the items and choose something decent for a decent price. But that would involve making effort, so he didn’t.

Hibiscrubbed · 19/11/2023 12:28

Janeandme · 19/11/2023 12:09

What the heck. Stand by your beds everyone. Apparently it’s a crime to shop for crimbo pressies on Amazon and we should also be spending loads more than this.

check your privilege 😱

Clothes. It’s a crime to buy clothes on Amazon.

Wendyspotatopeeler · 19/11/2023 12:28

This is the exact reason we don't buy gifts to each other. I'm so particular I'd rather no gift than one that isnt quite right. We now buy our own stuff and wrap them up labeled from the other person. It all comes from the joint ac so financially doesn't really matter. The "giver" gets the Xmas surprise and the receiver gets what exactly what they want.

I hated the thought of wasted money on gifts that aren't enjoyed thoroughly.

Clothes. It’s a crime to buy clothes on Amazon.

You do realise you can buy branded clothes on Amazon, yes?

Hibiscrubbed · 19/11/2023 12:31

But it’s not the cost of this junk that’s the problem, it’s the fact that he only bought it because it was a box ticked in his head and he had to make no effort.

I’m sad so many women on here expect and accept fuck all effort from their partners Christmas, while putting in vast amounts of effort themselves I expect.

Sure. He didn’t though.

You know that you should have just sent the links. I love slippers but I'm very specific about what I want, abs usually delighted Wink

I recall standing outside a little shop admiring some Moshulu slippers, never heard of them at the time. OH said, just have a look in the leather shop, about 20m along the road, he then appeared with a bag. On Christmas morning he was quite sniffy when I laughed and said Oh, what a lovely surprise!

Whatthefuck3456 · 19/11/2023 12:32

They look very comfy, you sound like hard work to buy for. Poor husband

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 19/11/2023 12:34

He met the brief. If your description wasn't good enough to be accurate then that's your problem not his. If you specifically didn't want anything patterned, then why not say it.

weirdoboelady · 19/11/2023 12:34

Can we see a link to the DG you would have liked?

Also, just saying, the price of real Ooodies is at a historic low ATM (I'm feeling cold, can you tell?)

EerieSilence · 19/11/2023 12:35

You're BU. You need to simply send him the links and be clear about what you want. If he can't respect that, he doesn't respect you but ignorance can be forgiven for some, I know and my DH knows I need to approve the selections otherwise it's a waste of money.

Muchof · 19/11/2023 12:37

I think the dressing gown looks cosy, so he has got what you asked for. I really think if you had specific things in mind, you might as well just buy them yourself.

jlpth · 19/11/2023 12:37

I mean I think the poor guy has tried hard. Both those items look cosy.

Next time, give him 3 links and just tell him to choose from the links.

Concannon88 · 19/11/2023 12:37

They dressing gown in particular looks fine. If you are this picky, why didnt you just buy them yourself? Its practically the same thing if you have to send him links to the ones you want!

Tiredmum100 · 19/11/2023 12:38

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 19/11/2023 09:58

There is no way on this earth that I'd be wearing either of those! Envy[not envy]

I like them 🙈

crumblingschools · 19/11/2023 12:39

@Hibiscrubbed doesn’t it depend where you live/work? Some of us don’t have big name stores close by, or if we do they can be small versions that don’t carry full stock. So is it different to browse on line on Amazon compared to browsing on line on Next?

margotrose · 19/11/2023 12:39

Hibiscrubbed · 19/11/2023 12:31

Sure. He didn’t though.

Am I missing where you can see the brand of the dressing gown?

The slippers I can see are from a company called Snug Leaves - not just available on Amazon.

Soshitatgifts · 19/11/2023 12:11

I didn’t think I needed to put “lighthearted” in the thread title, but there we go

Dont worry OP, I think its hilarious & knew from the start this was lighthearted 🤣
Have you told him yet? Can't wait for the outcome 🤣

softfig · 19/11/2023 12:41

Always send the link Op. I've also learn that the hard way and never again. Men can be a bit daft.

XelaM · 19/11/2023 12:42

WeeOrcadian · 19/11/2023 10:30

Send them to me - I must be in the minority and like them both!

Me too.

OP - you're being ridiculous and if I were your husband I would be quite hurt.
