Just that, really. I’m sure there will be a lot of posts on here about it’s too old and she should have done it sooner, but given that she didn’t, I am envious that she has the money and the luck and the situation to be able to do it now.

Can you imagine how different women’s lives would be if we just didn’t have to worry so much about the end of our fertility?

I don’t even know who she is but I hope I look that good at 51.

Edithisoverthere · 01/11/2023 22:00

I'll still be wanting babies when I'm in a care home ☹️ was still managing to get pregnant until 50 but none of them worked out.

Tranche · 01/11/2023 22:00

As a perimenopausal 51-year-old, I cannot think of much worse than having a newborn to look after right now.

I am sorry this didn’t happen for you 😭

ooooahhh · 01/11/2023 22:01

Good for her!

rockpoolingtogether · 01/11/2023 22:01

I know its perspective, but no, I don't want babies at 50 or even 40!

Dacadactyl · 01/11/2023 22:02

I can't think of much worse than a baby at 51!! I'm 38 and that feels ancient to be having babies to me.

HangingOver · 01/11/2023 22:05

Feels tough on the kid that when they should be carefree in their twenties they could be minding their folks who are in their 70s... Or starting families in their 30s and simultaneously worrying about their parents in their 80s... Still I suppose anything could happen to anyone at any time.

oceanskye · 01/11/2023 22:05

God no, I wouldn't want a baby at that age. A grandchild maybe? My own children will be adults by then.

TheChosenTwo · 01/11/2023 22:05

Fuck me 😂😂
lovely news for them but I have different goals for that era of my life and wiping shitty bums and watching teletubbies aren’t on the list!

SarahAndQuack · 01/11/2023 22:06

I think it's probably hard however you do it. I imagine a pregnancy at that age is quite scary, and may involve quite a lot of difficult parts.

Coffeerum · 01/11/2023 22:06

Personally I couldn’t imagine anything worse than having a baby at 51.
Zero envy whatsoever from me.

LittleRobinRedBreast2023 · 01/11/2023 22:06

Having a 10 year year old at 61 wouldn’t have been my life plan… Having a child at 51? That’s a no from me. It’s pretty selfish if imo. I had older parents and I never wanted that for my children.

I hit menopause at just a few months short of 52. I cannot imagine having to cope with a baby at that age.

Yeah but what if you hadn’t already had children? Would you rather just not have children than have a baby at 51?

Anyway she obviously feels differently so it’s nice that she’s got what she wanted

My thoughts exactly.

So you don’t think lifelong childlessness would be worse?

Was it natural

I’d rather not have had children than to have one at 51.

Pelegrinfalcon · 01/11/2023 22:08

late 40s here. This would be my worst nightmare. I really don't understand why people do this. Its selfish, nothing else.

ferntwist · 01/11/2023 22:08

Good luck to them!

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 01/11/2023 22:08

It’s just too damn old. Sorry. It’s a ridiculous age to have a baby. I’m 51 with a 9 year old and I’m pushing it here. I’d hate it for my child if I were 60!

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/11/2023 22:10

I think she’s mad!

SarahAndQuack · 01/11/2023 22:10

I really struggle with the argument that it is 'selfish'.

I have a friend who had her baby when she was 50, and I think she's a wonderful mum. Where do we stop the argument about 'selfishness'? My MIL believes it's selfish to have children in your 30s, and I'm very glad we didn't listen to her.

Poorlymumma · 01/11/2023 22:11

When I'm 51 my son will be 29, so no.
