To think you just don't do this to a child

My daughter's whole class go swimming every Friday. They get the bus to the swimming pool which is about 15 minutes away.
On Friday they were finishing up their swimming (it's the last thing of the day) and the teacher then said that everyone had to stay in the pool except my daughter. Turns out one of the girls was having her birthday party at the pool straight after. My daughter then had to get in the bus with the teacher and they came back to the school. I was there for the bus getting back and asked why my daughter was the only one on the bus and that's when the teacher told me. I understand not everyone is invited to everyone's party but would there not have been a better way of doing this? My daughter and I am very upset and I want to know if you think I'm being unreasonable. All opinions will be considered. Thank you
Oh and my daughter is 6 for context

How many people in the whole class?
I agree that I would have preferred a heads up so I could collect dd before swimming.

LilyLemonade · 30/10/2023 15:27

That is absolutely awful! Unbelievable almost. Wonder how the school could have allowed that.

Legendairy · 30/10/2023 15:27

To invite everyone other than 1 person is absolutely awful. Wow, what is wrong with some people.

Newtonianmechanics · 30/10/2023 15:28

I think it's wrong of the school getting involved in parties like this.

Also a safeguarding issue with a student and just one staff member.

Legendairy · 30/10/2023 15:28

I agree, the school should not have facilitated this. How can anyone think it's OK.

Sanch1 · 30/10/2023 15:28

I dont think the school should have had anything to do with getting involved in arrangements for an after school activity. They should have taken the kids back to school. Ridiculous!

I can’t see how this would be allowed to happen.

Quite

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2023 15:30

That's awful

Your poor dd

And what a bitch of a mum leaving one child out

School should not involve with after school stuff so should have brought all kids back to school

And parents taken to party

Sparklesocks · 30/10/2023 15:30

So the parents of the birthday pupil said to the teacher ‘hey, we are having a pool party after Fridays lesson with the whole class except X, so you’ll only need to take her back to school after?’ That’s bizarre!

Absolutely! How bizarre. Who was responsible for the children once the teacher had left? Surely teacher has to dismiss each child to their parent/ carer, not just abandon them all at a pool 🤷🏻‍♀️

CarlosDisagrees · 30/10/2023 15:31

The school should have taken all the kids back to school and not got involved in the party. I’m shocked any school would do this.

LadeOde · 30/10/2023 15:31

Are you in the UK @OP?

SunlightOverBamburgh · 30/10/2023 15:31

Does this really happen? The whole class invited except one child? How horrendous, if it's true. That poor little girl.

LynetteScavo · 30/10/2023 15:32

Did this happen in a state school in the UK?

MinnieL · 30/10/2023 15:33

Surely no school would actually facilitate this and get involved? Madness

Crunchymum · 30/10/2023 15:34

I find this wholly unbelievable!

whatsappdoc · 30/10/2023 15:34

No chance

Maxus · 30/10/2023 15:34

This wouldn't have happened in the UK. It either happened elsewhere or it didn't happen.

sanityisamyth · 30/10/2023 15:34

I presume the whole class is under 8 years old so there must have been a lot of parents there to satisfy ratios. I don't understand how the whole class bar one child was left in the pool.

Why does the mum automatically get all the blame? Why not 'What a dick of a Dad for allowing this to happen"?

This is done with intent to cause harm to your daughter and yourself. The parent of the child’s party is a scary disturbed person. I would definitely complain to the school and seriously consider moving your daughter to another school. If I was a parent to one of the ‘invited’ children I would be mortified that I had unknowingly took part in such a cruel and malicious act of social exclusion and bullying.

I hope your daughter is okay.
