To think you just don't do this to a child

My daughter's whole class go swimming every Friday. They get the bus to the swimming pool which is about 15 minutes away.
On Friday they were finishing up their swimming (it's the last thing of the day) and the teacher then said that everyone had to stay in the pool except my daughter. Turns out one of the girls was having her birthday party at the pool straight after. My daughter then had to get in the bus with the teacher and they came back to the school. I was there for the bus getting back and asked why my daughter was the only one on the bus and that's when the teacher told me. I understand not everyone is invited to everyone's party but would there not have been a better way of doing this? My daughter and I am very upset and I want to know if you think I'm being unreasonable. All opinions will be considered. Thank you
Oh and my daughter is 6 for context

If there was no oversight, then the parents are scum and I hope they get ghosted by all their friends.

Createausername1970 · 30/10/2023 18:14

I agree that this is a bit odd. If "the whole class" went swimming, there would have been more than one staff member accompanying them on the bus. At 6 the ratio is still quite high in a British State school. Why did the others not return to school?

fluffypotatoes · 30/10/2023 18:15

Awww that's so sad

So the teacher left a class of kids (minus one, obvs) unsupervised in the pool? To take your child back to school?

Seems, um, unlikely.

Theresit · 30/10/2023 18:16

The school is in the wrong here. Pick up should have happened after the bus ride back to the school, no matter how inconvenient it was for the party goers. The school should not have been facilitating the singling out of one child and for that reason I would complain.

bookworm14 · 30/10/2023 18:16

OP hasn’t been back, then…

Sherrystrull · 30/10/2023 18:17

This would never happen. Ive taught a class swimming on a Friday afternoon. We had to leave at 2.30 from the pool to get home in time for dismissal. So the teacher released the whole class to a parent at 2.30 and took 1 child back? Never.

Fantasy

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 30/10/2023 18:18

Teachers of mumsnet..... how likely is this?

capnfeathersword · 30/10/2023 18:18

I work in a UK state school. No way this happened, no school would ever facilitate this.

Also... Why would you organise your kids swimming party for immediately after a swimming lesson?! Not to mention a swimming party for under 8s needs a 2:1 ratio and no sane parents would organise this, who needs that faff in their lives.

Just no chance!

QueenofTerrasen · 30/10/2023 18:19

So they just left the entire class In the pool apart from your child? For a party that starts after, with the whole class, just not your daughter. The entire class. And made her get the bus back alone with the teacher.
Nah.

Viviennemary · 30/10/2023 18:19

This was badly handled. The school should have refused to co-operate with this plan and children should have been returned to the school. Awful. Complain to the governors and consider changing schools.

Caterina99 · 30/10/2023 18:19

Haha of course this happened!

Viviennemary · 30/10/2023 18:20

I doubt this was a state school in the UK.

Notanotherone8765 · 30/10/2023 18:20

Yes I'm in the UK. Sorry my thread was taken down so I'm only getting to read the replies now. For anyone who doesn't believe me, it did happen. I have spoken to Mumsnet, hence why they have reinstated the thread. My dd has no idea it was going to happen. The mum of the child was at the pool as my dd was leaving. I honestly can't believe it happened and I'm livid

I wish it were nonsense. I really do. But this is real life to my myself and my daughter right now and now they are off for Halloween, which I suppose is a blessing as she doesn't have to be in school for a week now

Honestly all I wanted was a bit of advice. It's bad enough that this has happened but for Allah those sneering saying it didn't, that really isn't helping matters.

Is there a class WhatsApp group? Are you a part of it if so? Just most parties seem (from what I read on MN) to be discussed on there.

Saschka · 30/10/2023 18:23

Do you have evidence beyond the word of your DD that it happened? Because DSIL told DMIL that the school bus broke down on the way home from swimming, and the teacher forced all 30 9 year olds to push the bus, while she watched them. DMIL stormed into school to complain, and then looked very silly when it turned out to be a load of cobblers.
